Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum: Expect Skin Radiance. Lightening? Not So Much

Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum

This serum landed on my desk for review a few months ago and I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it yet even though I’ve been using it almost daily. You may or may not be able to tell from my photos but I have hyperpigmentation developing on my cheeks. I don’t think it’s due to the lack of sunscreen because goodness knows I apply it religiously.

The hyperpigmentation I have is pretty much a genetic thing; my mum has severe hyperpigmentation and so did my late grandparents. My freckles started to show some time around 6-7 years ago. It may look cute to some now but if I’m not careful, in time it will spread to the rest of my face where even my freckles will have freckle babies. If there’s anything I can safely use that can help lighten any of those dark spots, I’ll happily give it a go.

I’ve been using the Estee Lauder Enlighten serum for a few months now and thought I’d share my views on it with you. From the title, I think you can already guess my opinion on this, right? 😛

My First Eyelash Extensions Experience

Note: This is a long and text-heavy post but I feel that it should be as detailed as possible especially if you’re thinking of getting eyelash extensions but not sure if you should.

My First Eyelash Extensions by Shizuka

Out of all of the, erm, “cosmetic enhancements” (in quotes because this is obviously not plastic surgery), I never thought I’d give eyelash extensions a go. I have nothing against cosmetic enhancements and believe that every woman has the right to do what she wants with her body. In fact, I must admit that I’m considering Botox to get rid of my deep frown line between my eyes (unfortunately, no amount of lotions and potions can fully get rid of that wretched deep line). But that’s neither here nor there, and if I do get it done, you’ll be the first to know about it.

I’ve seen eyelash extensions on some of my friends and I have to admit, they look really good. I never considered eyelash extensions earlier because I’ve also seen some really bad ones that not only look highly unnatural but ruined their eyelashes as well. After seeing how good and natural they can look when done correctly, I decided that I too would like to see what the fuss is about.

Groupon (a popular group discounts website) has plenty of offers on very cheap eyelash extension treatments. To be honest, those leave a bad taste in my mouth as I don’t know what the quality of the lashes are and more importantly, how good/bad the technicians would be. As the false eyelashes have to be attached to your existing eyelashes almost very close to the root, this means that sharp tools are in very close proximity to your eyes. One wrong move and those tools can blind you.

Thankfully, a lovely friend of mine, Shizuka, offered to do it for me. She’s been training on eyelash extensions application for a while now and have done it on a good number of people. I’ve also seen her work on a few friends of mine and they look absolutely fantastic. Shiz was very kind to offer a complimentary session and I happily accepted. By the way, I didn’t take her up on her offer because it was free. I’ve seen her work on other people and knew she’d do a good job on me.

Just a heads up, I didn’t wear any makeup for this session so apologies for the oily, tired-looking and spotty skin!

Travel Beauty Lessons I’ve Learned And Boy, They Are Tough

Travel Beauty Lessons I've Learned

© Carli Jean

Happy Friday, folks!

As I settle back home with a much-needed cup of good, strong coffee to tackle the almighty task of unpacking, I pondered on some of the things that I’ve learned through the holiday. Yes, I do that from time to time as my mind wanders to goodness-knows-where.

I mentioned this when I blogged about a fantastic hydrating mask yesterday but I had issues with my skin when I was in Malaysia that I couldn’t seem to fix until I got home. My skin didn’t behave itself during this trip, which meant that I have my work cut out for me now that I’m finally back home. Thankfully, it’s on the mend now albeit slowly.

As I looked back on my trip, I realised that there were some lessons on beauty that I’ve learned, not only from this trip but from my previous travels too. Even though most of these lessons were learned the hard way, with experience, I’ll know what to do and not to do in future.

Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask Saved My Shitty Holiday Skin!

Skin Inc Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask

Sleeping masks were quite the rage a year or two ago (or maybe even three?). Laneige has a very popular one called the Water Sleeping Mask and I remembered how that sold like hot cakes. If you’re wondering what the heck sleeping masks are, they typically come in the form of a clear gel that you can apply on your skin after cleansing that you don’t have to rinse off if you don’t want to. The point of sleeping masks is to go sleep with them on and wake up with glorious boing-boing skin the next morning.

I’m not usually a fan of sleeping masks. I’ve tried the one by Laneige and while it’s okay, I thought it felt a tad greasy on my skin. I very much prefer masks that are convenient and easily removed, which is why I love facial sheet masks so much.

A month ago, the people at Skin Inc kindly sent me a jar of the Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask to try out. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like it since it can be used as a sleeping mask but like I mentioned earlier, I’d prefer not to use it as such. However, to give it a really good go, I tried it as a regular facial mask that I rinsed off 30 minutes later and I also tried it as a sleeping mask.

Whaddyaknow, I reckon I’ve stumbled upon a sleeping mask that I actually really like!
