Take Your Skin’s Hydration Level Up A Notch With Paula’s Choice Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster

Paula's Choice Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster

Out of all the steps in my skincare routine, I love serums the most. They do the bulk of the “work” on my skin, which meant that while I can splurge on them, I can also save on other items like moisturisers and cleansers. For the past few years, I raved a lot about Dr Lewinns’ S8 Super Hydrator, which is a beautiful hyaluronic acid serum that gives me great boing boing skin. The problem is, that serum is exceedingly hard to find these days. Most if not all of the Priceline pharmacies and Chemist Warehouses that I go to don’t even stock it anymore.

I got pretty fed up at one point and started looking elsewhere for hyaluronic acid serums. I discovered Cosmetic Skin Solutions’ Hydra B5 Gel and The Skincare Company’s HB5 gel (they’re both pretty much the same thing) and I love them. I also came upon Paula’s Choice’s Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster, which I’ll be talking about today.

And it’s just as good. No wait, actually, it’s even better.

In The Shower: Do You Use Soap Bars?

In The Shower - Do You Use Soap Bars?

© Whitestorm

Joey: Man this is weird. You ever realize Captain Crunch’s eyebrows are actually on his hat?
Chandler: Joey, that’s what’s weird? Joey, the man’s been captain of a cereal for the last 40 years.
(Joey finishes his cereal, licks his spoon, and puts it back in the silverware drawer.)
Chandler: Waaa-aaah.
Joey: What?
Chandler: The spoon. You licked and-and you put. You licked and you put.
Joey: Yeah, so?
Chandler: Well don’t you see how gross that is? I mean that’s like you using my toothbrush. [Joey gets a sheepish look] You used my toothbrush?
Joey: Well, that was only ’cause I used the red one to unclog the drain.
Chandler: Mine is the red one! Oh God. Can open, worms everywhere.
Joey: Hey, why can’t we use the same toothbrush, but we can use the same soap?
Chandler: Because soap is soap. It’s self-cleaning.
Joey: All right, well next time you take a shower, think about the last thing I wash and the first thing you wash.
Friends, Season 2, Episode “The One Where Joey Moves Out”

I can’t pinpoint the exact year I started using shower creams/gels but I still remember the absolute wonder of not having to use a bar of soap in the shower. Growing up, I’ve always used soap bars because
1) shower creams/gels were not available back then,
2) when they were available, they weren’t as cheaps as a 6-pack of soap bars and
3) it was just easier for my folks to get soap bars.

Ugh, I hated using soap bars back then. We didn’t have ensuite bathrooms and our family of 4 had to share one bathroom. This also meant sharing one soap bar. To be fair, I was too young to understand what soap hygiene was and that one bar of soap by the bathtub meant that it was to be used by everyone in the family. Mum was quite pernickety when it came to drying of soaps; she’d make sure the soap was placed on the groovy bits of the holder each time she was done with her shower and would insist that we do that same. Sometimes we would but most of the time, that bar of soap will be found in the tub or sitting anywhere but the proper soap holder.

Dior My Lady Blush Spring 2015 in 007: What A Lady!

Dior My Lady Cannage Blush Spring 2015 in 007

I was incredibly lucky to be given this beautiful blush as a birthday gift. It’s hard for Dior to get it wrong when it comes to blushes and this one definitely did not disappoint. When I first took this out of the box, slipped the heavy silver compact out of the lush velvet case and lifted the lid, I gasped. It was so beautiful!

Dior’s My Lady blushes in the Cannage edition is a part of the Spring 2015 collection. It’s embossed in its iconic cannage pattern, which is a timeless code of the House of Dior. This is not the latest blush by Dior given that it was part of the spring collection but it’s just too pretty not to share. 🙂

Bloggie Wednesday: 35 Things Beauty Blogging Taught Me About Beauty

Bloggie Wednesday: 35 Things Beauty Blogging Taught Me About Beauty

How many beauty bloggers are there in the world, you reckon? Thousands? Tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Over a million? I’m afraid I don’t know the figures, but I’ll venture a guess that there are far more than we can count. When we blog about beauty, we write about the beauty products we’ve tried, loved or disliked. We write about the tips and tricks we’ve learned about a makeup trend, a hairstyle and so on, and we pass that information on to our readers. We build a sense of community with our audience.

You may be surprised to know that most beauty bloggers out there do not work in the beauty industry. Most haven’t done makeup courses or have a formal education in beauty. For me, I learn on the job. I learn from other people, from reading blogs, books and magazines to speaking to experts, picking their brains and so on. I learn from fellow bloggers who work so hard in creating tutorials so that people like me can understand and follow along step by step.

Before I started beauty blogging, I thought I knew a lot about beauty. Turns out, I barely knew a thing. Eight years down the road, I picked up a few beauty tricks here and there. I also learned a lot about my skin and hair; what it likes, what it dislikes and how it reacts to certain things.

Here’s a mish-mash of the 35 things beauty blogging has taught me about beauty.
