Bloggie Wednesday: Packing for a Blogging Conference

Bloggie Wednesday: Packing for a Blogging Conference

In last week’s Bloggie Wednesday, I talked about preparing for a blogging conference. I’ll be leaving for Gold Coast next week for the Problogger Event 2015 and I’m so excited about it. But, erm, being the usual last minute packer that I am, as I write and publish this, I have yet to pack anything. And here I am talking to you about packing for a conference.

Yes, I get the irony. 😛

A question that’s frequently asked by first-timers are: what the heck should I bring to a blogging conference? Believe you me, before I headed to my first blogging conference, I Googled the heck out of it. What should I bring? What should I wear? How do I keep myself from losing my shit when I see the bloggers I’ve been admiring from afar for so long that I don’t fangirl them like a 13 year old? (I totally did by the way. Fangirled Pat Flynn last year. Ahem. Moving on.)

So, what should you bring to a blogging conference? In my experience, there are some things you should and shouldn’t bring. I made the mistake of not bringing enough pens last year and also bringing my iPad along with me, which ended up with me carrying some sort of useless brick around because I never used it one bit. So, lessons learned, at least from the past couple of conferences I’ve been to.

By the way, this doesn’t just apply to the Problogger Event conference. It applies to all blogging conferences too.

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette: Some Of The Shades Are Practically Naked!

Maybelline The Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

Oh I know, I know. How many neutral eyeshadow palettes does a girl need, right? Erm, well, looking at my own stash of eyeshadows, I’d say … erm … four? Five? More? Oh shush! 😛

Now it goes without saying (even though I’m saying it now. Tsk) that I adore the Urban Decay NAKED eyeshadow palette. I don’t have NAKED 2 or NAKED 3, only the NAKED Basics yet I still think the original palette’s the best. Having said that, it’s not exactly the cheapest palette out there so drugstore brands try to come up with similar eyeshadow palettes with similar neutral shades.

An eyeshadow palette I got to try was Maybelline’s The Nudes. It doesn’t resemble the Urban Decay palettes but upon first glance, it does remind me a little of LORAC’s eyeshadow palettes. To be honest, I’ve never had a good track record of Maybelline’s powder eyeshadows. Most if not all that I’ve tried before were not good. Even though I was excited that this is finally launched in Australia, I must say that I was skeptical on the quality of the eyeshadows.

I finally gave the palette a go and while it’s still nowhere near the quality of my beloved NAKED palette, a number of the eyeshadows in this palette aren’t as bad as I thought.

Get The Optimum Coverage You Want With Cover FX’s Custom Cover Drops

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops in G30 | Beautyholics Anonymous

A month ago, I did a beauty experiment where I tried to see if all that talk about mixing your foundation with moisturiser to lighten the shade is true. It was a bit of a fail – a whole lot really – because all the foundations did was split with any moisturiser I mixed it with. At the time, I hadn’t gotten the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, which is a foundation where you’re supposed to mix serums/moisturisers with to design the ideal foundation you want. After that experiment, it made me even more curious to try the Custom Cover Drops out and after discussing it with a couple of readers, I decided to get a bottle to try out.

Next came the problem of choosing the right shade. This took me a while because, really, the Cover FX website is rubbish in telling you which shade suits you. They have a “shade selector quiz” but it’s pointless because the selection criteria is so vague. I usually get my foundation shades on Findation.com, which is an awesome tool for shade selection (I’ve gotten 9/10 times correct with that one) but the Custom Cover Drops weren’t available at that time. So after lots of Googling and YouTube-ing of Asian bloggers and vloggers who tried this out, I decided on the shade G30.

Tim Talks: Doc, What Are Antidepressants?

A note from Tine: Welcome to another edition of Tim Talks! For those who are new to Beautyholics Anonymous, Tim Talks is a new series on the blog where my husband, Tim, will be sharing his knowledge to help raise mental health awareness. Tim is a psychiatrist who works in metro Melbourne. His area of interest is child, adolescent and youth psychiatry.

Today, he answers some frequently asked questions about antidepressants. I hope this sheds some light to any questions you may have about antidepressant medications.

In an earlier blog post, I touched on some of the principles of psychological treatment for depression, I thought it would be useful to explore and shed more light on the role of antidepressant medications. There is a plethora of information available on Dr Google about antidepressants, but I tread very cautiously around the source of information, not discounting the views and experiences of some who have had a less desirable or adverse response to these treatments. As with any medications, there are common and not so common side-effects which I will discuss.

The information provided here does not constitute medical advice; it is strongly suggested to have a detailed discussion with your treating GP or psychiatrist before commencing any form of antidepressant treatment.
