Bloggie Wednesday: Why It’s Important To Take Scheduled Blogging Breaks (Even When You Feel Like You Don’t Need One)

Bloggie Wednesday: Why It's Important To Take Scheduled Blogging Breaks (Even When You Feel Like You Don't Need One)

Do you blog frequently? Perhaps you blog daily or almost daily or maybe even more than once a day. That’s a lot of content to come up with per year. If coming up with images is just as important as your words, then the work is doubly hard. Add the stress of a full-time job to the equation (if you’re not blogging full-time) and boy oh boy, I can already feel the potential blogging burn-out from here if you don’t contemplate taking any break from blogging.

I recently took 2+ weeks break from blogging. Initially, I was going to either prepare and schedule content on the blog for when I was away from the country but at that time, the thought of squeezing out content when I had nothing left in me to squeeze out was quite terrifying. It was a tad last minute to get guest contributors in, and given how pedantic I am about guest posts on the blog, I wanted to make sure you get the best. So I just left things as they were. As I expected, my traffic dropped during the time I was away. As scary as it looked on Google Analytics, I knew that I had to take a break no matter what because at that time, I really had nothing more to give.

Things I like To Do When I Stay At A Hotel

Things I like To Do When I Stay At A Hotel

I don’t know about you, but I love staying at hotels. Germaphobes will be absolutely horrified at the idea because goodness knows how dirty hotel rooms are since they’re never really that thoroughly cleaned (my aunt used to bring a black light with her to every hotel room she stayed in to see how dirty the place was. I don’t know why she tortured herself like that given that she wasn’t really that fussed about a super clean room. She stopped after a while when even the most expensive hotels she’d been to gave her a fright). I, on the other hand, practise the very important mantra of “ignorance is bliss” so unless there are remnants of chips or blood under the bed, I’m good. I want those crisp, white sheets. 😛

I didn’t actually realise this until a few months ago when I was away at Gold Coast for the Problogger Event conference and I stayed on my own at the RACV Royal Pines hotel that when it comes to staying at hotels, I have a sort of ritual or a set of things I have to do when I first step into a hotel room. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to stay in many different hotels in my life so far and as such, I’ve started to do all these on autopilot.

I thought I’d share some of what I do when I stay at a hotel with you today, in no particular order. Maybe you do these on autopilot too!

I’m Baaaaack!

Brother's Wedding

Happy Monday!

After a 2+ week break away, I’m finally back on the blog! How have you been? Oh I sure have missed you. How I’ve missed blogging as well.

The break was a sorely needed one. I know I said that I would be on social media reporting on my travel shenanigans but to tell you the truth, it felt good to even stay away from social media for a bit. Plus I was so busy helping out with my brother’s wedding with lots of errands to run that I didn’t even have time to think about checking or posting on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram! It was then that I decided that I needed a break from social media as well. And believe you me, it felt good to not be checking my phone constantly.

How was the wedding, you ask? Oh it was wonderful! I can’t believe that my baby brother is married and that I have a new sister-in-law. How bizarre is that? 😛 For privacy reasons, I won’t be able to show you photos of family and friends at the wedding but I’ll show you my preparation for the wedding reception (which makes this rather awkward because obviously the wedding wasn’t about me but I’m sure you know what I mean. I really wish I could show you more). My mum actually hired a makeup artist to come to our house to have both our makeup done. That makeup artist did such a great job on my hair and makeup. And to think I actually told my mum it wasn’t necessary for me since I should know how to apply makeup given what I do (y’know, being a *ahem* beauty blogger and all *ahem* #seriouslydeludedshowoff). Yeah, what an idiot I was because I couldn’t do nearly half of what the makeup artist did, and that included application of false eyelashes, which you know I’m rubbish at. Tsk tsk. 😛

Taking A Break. I Really Need It.

BA on Hiatus

Happy hump day, my lovely chickadees!

I’ll be taking a couple of weeks off BA as I’ll be flying back to Malaysia for my brother’s wedding. To tell you the truth, this hiatus from BA is sorely needed as I’m pretty burned out. My brains are fried. When I wrote the Bloggie Wednesday post on how not to burn out, guess what? I was already burned out!

Prior to the break, I had plans to schedule a whole heap of content and even engaging the help of guest contributors like I did when I took a break early this year (many of you didn’t even know I wasn’t technically around!) but I figured nope, BA needs a break and a break is what it’s going to get.
