Tine’s Guide To Getting Off Your Bum: My Favourite Activewear (And Where To Get Them)

My Favourite Activewear

Okay so technically, this post isn’t about exercising, running or plain gettting off your bum. Technically. It may seem like a frivolous thing, this “activewear” or as I saw it on telly the other day, “athleisurewear” (*roll eyes*), but believe you me when I tell you that when it comes to activewear, I’m very serious about it. Imagine me putting on my serious face.

Thaaaaaat’s right.

Seriously though, there’s power in good activewear. Compare these two scenarios:
1. You go running/working out in your usual home lounging shorts, ratty ol’ T-shirt, a regular bra and any ol’ pair of sneakers you have lying on your shoe rack, OR
2. You go running/working out in proper sports leggings/shorts, sturdy sports bra, shoes that are meant for running/working out. And maybe a ratty ol’ T-shirt but that’s where I draw the line.

I don’t know about you but #2 motivates me to run/work out any time. Even when I’m just doing yoga at home, I don’t do it in my home lounge wear. I make sure to change to my exercise leggings and a sports crop top. It’s a placebo effect but a good one that gets me off my butt nonetheless.

On My Beauty Bookshelf: Face Paint By Lisa Eldridge

Face Paint by Lisa Eldridge

I don’t really fancy the term “makeup guru” especially when used on YouTube but if I do, I would give that to my favourite YouTuber and celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge anytime. I’ve been following her videos for years and when she released her first book, Face Paint, I made sure to pick one up as soon as possible.

When Lisa Eldridge did her series on vintage makeup and interviewed Madeleine Marsh on her collection vintage makeup, it made me fall in love with her even more. And to think that her first book is on the history of makeup … well, that’s just a no-brainer; I had to get my hands on it!

Bloggie Wednesday: Should I Stick To Just Blogging About Beauty Or Should I Broaden My Niche?

Bloggie Wednesday: Should I Stick To Just Blogging About Beauty Or Should I Broaden My Niche?

Prior to starting this beauty blog in 2007, I had a personal blog that I was blogging on for 2 years. I wrote personal anecdotes, shared recipes, lifestyle stories, etc on that personal blog. To me, that was a sort of personal-cum-lifestyle blog, which was why I dedicated Beautyholics Anonymous solely to beauty stories. BA was primarily a beauty blog and while I included a few personal stories here and there, to me, it was still a beauty blog and where I share my passion about skincare and makeup.

The personal blog is long defunct and I must admit that without another blog to take on the load of personal and lifestyle categories, I started to include them into BA. What started out solely a beauty blog has turned into a somewhat beauty-lifestyle blog. And I’m not the only one.

I’ve seen this happen to many beauty blogs I subscribe to. Over the years, they have evolved from writing about beauty stories alone to lifestyle, home, food, personal stories and so on. The blogs’ names still remain the same but the style has changed. Those blogs are no longer just about beauty alone.

This begs the question if you’re starting out as a beauty blogger: should you stick to just blogging about beauty or should you broaden your niche?

These Western Sunscreens Don’t Suck!

These Western Sunscreens Don't Suck

Oh I know, I know. Probably should have come up with a better title for this blog post but hey, let’s call a spade a spade, eh? 😛

As much as I enjoy waxing lyrical about Japanese sunscreens, unfortunately they’re not widely available for everyone to try them out. I’m often asked if there are any good sunscreens from Western brands that aren’t heavy, stinky, greasy and leave that awful white/grey cast on the skin. And you know what? Yes there are!

I’ve been trialing a number of Western sunscreens for a good amount of time and I thought I’d share the ones that I like with you today. While I still love my Japanese sunscreens and will continue to use them whenever possible, I wouldn’t hesitate to use these sunscreens either.
