The Famous 10 Step Korean/Japanese Skincare Routine

The Famous 10 Step Korean/Japanese Skincare Routine

What’s your skincare routine like? How many steps do you go through in your routine before it’s finished? Three? Four? Believe it or not, the Koreans are famous for their 10-step skincare routine. I’ve also added the Japanese into this because they do just the same. But before you think “geez, these people sure are high maintenance. Where the heck do they find the time for this??“, they don’t actually go through 10 steps in the skincare routine twice a day on a daily basis. While their skincare routine is longer than their Western counterparts, it doesn’t actually take that long.

There’s a reason Korean and Japanese women’s skin look so good – they take the time to look after their skin. They’ve made it a priority in their lives. If this means that they have to wake up earlier to get their skincare routine on just right, they would. They address particularly concerns on different parts of their face instead of just slapping one serum on in hopes that it will do the trick for all of the problems on the skin (*ahem* me *ahem*). For example, they could have one serum just for their T-zone to target oiliness, one serum just for their cheeks and chin to target dryness and so on.

The thing is, this famous 10-step skincare routine needn’t just be for the Koreans and Japanese. We can do it too as long as we make taking care of our skin a priority. We just have to want it badly enough. While my skincare routine doesn’t come up to all these 10 steps, it’s at least 7 steps and the entire routine doesn’t take more than 10 minutes (excluding facial sheet mask). It really doesn’t take long at all. 🙂

I’ve Got Skincare Goodies … In The Fridge!

Skincare in fridge

I love our new big fridge. No longer do we have to squash our veggies together from the lack of space; we could even space our food out. Heck, the outside of the fridge is big enough for all of my Instagram magnets! Another good thing about having a bigger fridge? The space for keeping my beauty products.

Yep, you heard me right. I keep some of my beauty products in the fridge. Oh yeah.

I grew up with heaps on skincare stored in the fridge. In fact, I don’t remember a time when the fridge we had at home didn’t keep my mum’s skincare products. Mum would store all of her skincare in the large veggie compartment of the fridge. Gifts with purchases that are skincare will go in the fridge too. The items she was currently using would stay on her vanity area.

As time went by, her skincare stash went from one veggie compartment to two veggie compartments. Mum denies this of course, but I’m pretty darn sure we bought a bigger fridge after that because she ran out of space to store her skincare. 😛

Bloggie Wednesday: Do You Use Products That Are Sent To You For Review Immediately? Or Finish What You Have First?

Bloggie Wednesday: Do You Use Products That Are Sent To Your For Review Immediately? Or Finish What You Have First?

A perk of beauty blogging is getting products from beauty brands and PRs for editorial consideration. This means that I’ll get to try out products without having to buy them and sometimes, these products are reviewed or at least mentioned on the blog. Just so you know, this doesn’t happen very often. It’s still a bonus I don’t take for granted. Sadly, there are a number of beauty bloggers who started blogging simply to get these “freebies”. I’ve even received emails from people who asked me how to start a beauty blog because they want free stuff too. Sigh. Anyway, that issue is for another Bloggie Wednesday topic, not today’s.

Today, I’d like to ask beauty bloggers out there: when you’re sent products to review, do you use them immediately, or do you wait till your current products have finished first before you tackle the new ones? How long do you wait before you move on to the newer products?

The Importance of pH Levels In Cleansers

The Importance of pH Levels In Cleansers

Look at how facial cleansers are marketed these days and you’ll almost always see the words “pH-balanced”. Is this buzzword an advertising tool and marketing ploy by cosmetic brands or do they really mean something when it comes to taking care of your skin? I know I talk a lot about beauty products and their marketing fluff but when it comes to cleansers, pH levels do make a difference.

Many years ago, when Johnson’s pH 5.5 body wash was launched, it made a lot of people take notice of something they’ve not realised before in their skincare products – the pH level. But why 5.5?
