If you’ve been a long-time reader here on BA, you’ll notice that I hardly blog about eye creams. It’s not that I don’t use them; goodness knows my undereye area needs them badly. The thing is, eye creams last a long time for me and it often means that I’ll probably only blog about 2-3 eye creams a year.
However, I recently introduced a new eye cream into my skincare regime and after using it for a couple of months, I thought I’d share my thoughts about it with you. It’s Sunday Riley’s Active Eye Cream.
One thing I have to stress about eye creams: please don’t expect miracles. Nothing short of cosmetic procedures can erase fine lines. No matter how much the beauty industry tell you their latest eye creams can remove wrinkles and eye creams, it’s not true. They can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles but they cannot literally erase them altogether. The same goes for the Sunday Riley eye cream.
This eye cream is quite rich when dispensed but feels very light on the skin. As it’s bottled in glass, it comes out feeling cool to the touch and helps in reducing puffiness below the eyes. What I love about it is that it not only reduces the appearance of fine lines below my eyes, it also helps to “lift” the skin. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me but I actually see a difference!
I also have genetic dark circles under the eyes and this helps to hydrate, moisturise and reduce that darkness. It doesn’t remove it completely, of course, but it certainly helps to not make it worse. My undereye area also looks brighter with regular use even though this product doesn’t contain those light-reflecting pigments that some skincare products have.
I use this twice a day and I love it. It dries quickly too so I don’t have to wait any longer than I have to to apply makeup. If you’re looking for a good eye cream, I highly recommend the Sunday Riley Start Over.
Now, let’s talk about the price because of course you’re not going to want to spend a bomb if you can help it. Sunday Riley’s skincare products aren’t cheap and the Start Over Active Eye Cream is AU$100. Before you go “ouch yowza!” (which was what I did when I found out its price), it’s AU$100 for 30ml. Eye creams usually come in 15ml but this one is double that amount, which makes this out to be AU$50 for 15ml.
Putting it to perspective, this eye cream costs less than Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream, Kiehl’s Line-Reducing Eye Brightening Concentrate (it’s only a few dollars more expensive than the rest of Kiehl’s eye creams), all Dermalogica eye creams, a few of L’Occitane eye creams, … the list goes on. As you only need so little product per use, this bottle is going to last you a long time. I reckon I’ll probably have almost a year’s use with this eye cream, even when used twice a day. There, it’s not too bad now, right? 🙂
Sunday Riley cosmetics is available at Mecca Cosmetica and on their online store.
What I like about it: Refreshes the delicate eye area, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, brightens my undereye area. It’s also deceptively cheaper than a lot of mid-range brands.
What I do not like about it: As the bottle is made of glass, it’s quite heavy for traveling. But I’m just nitpicking here.
