I haven’t given Mary Kay cosmetics much thought till recently. I’ve only ever used their skincare products, never their makeup and to be honest, the makeup didn’t have that much of an appeal in the catalogues. It’s another lesson I learned in not judging a book by its cover or in this case, the makeup by their catalogues because I came to realise that their lipsticks, at least the True Dimensions, are pretty damn good.
I had the opportunity to try out some of their True Dimensions lipsticks and today, I’d like to share my thoughts with you on one particular shade and that’s Tangerine Pop.
First of all, let’s talk about the packaging. Mary Kay has stepped up big time when it comes to the packaging of this range of lipsticks because it’s modern and very chic. Of course, it not being the typical bullet-style lipstick meant that it took me a while to figure out how to actually open the damn thing. I twisted, I pulled and still nothing came out. It was when I pressed the plastic see-through bit where you see the top of the lipstick that I heard a pop and the lipstick slid out. Ahh clever! (the lipstick. Not me.)
Tangerine Pop is a sheer and shimmery shade of coral. The texture reminds me very much of Kanebo’s T’estimo lipsticks. It’s typically the Japanese style of shimmery and sheer lipsticks where the colour may not last long on the lips but the shimmery bits do.
Having said that, I really do like this lippie. It’s very easy to wear and reapply, and it looks lovely on the lips. It does have your typical slightly waxy scent but it does not offend. In fact, I often forget about the scent and taste after having it on for a while. It’s very creamy and applies well without dragging. It doesn’t feel dry on the lips at all. It doesn’t last long on the lips though and you’ll need to reapply these several times a day. It makes a lovely everyday lipstick.
The True Dimensions lipsticks are beautiful and definitely worth checking out.
Mary Kay’s True Dimensions lipsticks retail at AU$28.00 each. By the way, gone are the days when you can only buy Mary Kay cosmetics via a beauty representative. You can now buy them online! Just click here and have fun shopping!
Love the look of the packaging on that MK packaging. Very chic! And I like the shade too (I have something very similar from Be A Bombshell and it was great for summer). I received a Mary Kay gloss in an ipsy bag a few months ago, and I liked it a lot. I’ve heard good things about a number of products. Sometime, I’ve gotta check out the website and find out how to order. I know this is awful, but I hate to have to go through a salesperson. I’d rather just buy it online.

Me too! I’d rather buy it online as well, which is why I’m so glad that direct-selling brands like AVON and Mary Kay now has online stores. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not sure how I’d like a rep to come into my home. Unless I do it with a group of girlfriends and the rep isn’t pushy at all, then I reckon it’s okay.
