Hello hello and welcome to Day 2 of Makeup Favourites Week! I hope you’ve enjoyed reading my top 10 primers yesterday as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it.
Today, I’d like to share one of my favourite topics in makeup. No, it’s not blush just yet (that’s coming soon!). It’s foundations. I won’t be talking about BB creams this time, just foundations. I’ve been wearing foundations a lot more than BB creams for the past 10 months so it’s only fitting that I tell you what my top 10 foundations are. Some are classic favourites and some are recent discoveries.
You’ll also find that this is the only makeup favourites topic that I actually have reviews for every foundation mentioned. I enjoy trying out new foundations and reviewing them so you can bet your bottom dollar that there’ll be a lot more foundation reviews to come in the near future.
Let’s get crackin’, shall we? Here they are in no particular order.
Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation
This was a recent discovery as it was only launched in Australia a few months ago. This has fast become one of my favourite weekend foundations. The coverage is medium but the finish is lovely. It’s just one of those foundations you slap on knowing your skin won’t look bad regardless of its condition. (review here)
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
This is my evening foundation and one I save for photography as it doesn’t contain SPF. It’s a beautiful foundation and another one of those foundations that will make my skin look good regardless of its condition. I wouldn’t say this is in my top 5 foundations but it’s definitely in the top 10 list. (review here)
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
This has been my Holy Grail foundation for years and while I’m currently in limbo when it comes to foundations sharing the Holy Grail status (this happens when there are many good ones to choose from), this is the foundation I always go back to when I’m feeling blah about the makeup that I have (which also happens especially during that time of the month when everything is not coming up roses). Now that I’m favouring liquid-to-powder foundations more, I haven’t been using this much but suffice it to say: it will always be in my top 5 list. (review here)
Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth-Infusing Makeup
I haven’t tried Estee Lauder’s famous high-coverage Double Wear foundation but if there’s one foundation you need to try from the brand and you’re not looking for something full coverage, you have to try the Perfectionist out. It’s a gorgeous foundation that makes your skin look pretty damn good. It’s goes on velvety smooth and makes my skin glow in a good way. Needless to say, I’m truly impressed with this one. (review here)
Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup
This is my go-to foundation for high coverage and it’s a very good one. My skin looks naturally flawless with this foundation on and it covers every nook and cranny and blemish without making my skin look cakey. I like using this foundation for day weddings, even when traveling. The heavy jar doesn’t make it travel-friendly so I decant what I need into an old contact lens case and I’m ready to go! (review here)
Helena Rubinstein Prodigy Powercell Foundation
This is one heck of a luxe foundation. I love the satin and radiant finish of the foundation and how good my skin looks with this one on. I won’t lie, I’m a lot more sucked in by the packaging than the actual product itself. 😛 (review here)
By Terry Cover-Expert Perfecting Fluid Foundation Ultra-Correcting Coverage
This foundation makes my skin appear flawless. It’s not just my-skin-but-better, it’s my-skin-but-HEAPS-better-and-glowy. If it wasn’t for the strong scent that I really dislike, this would have surpassed my Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation and grabbed that #1 spot. Thankfully, everything else about this foundation is excellent hence my tolerance for the fragrance. (review here)
L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau de Teint
This is one foundation in which I adore the product but hate the packaging. I love how well this liquid-to-powder foundation applies on my skin and how my skin looks with it on even though the coverage is only at most a medium. It looks like my skin but better. It’s another favourite weekend foundation of mine. (review here)
Rimmel Match Perfection Light Perfecting Radiance Sunscreen Foundation
Believe it or not, this foundation knocked Bourjois’ Healthy Mix Serum foundation off its Holy Grail status for a while. It’s a great foundation that makes my skin look fab especially after an hour or so has passed. In fact, I’d say this foundation still fights with the Healthy Mix Serum for the Holy Grail spot every now and then. I find this foundation better than a lot of high-end foundations and one I’d recommend to anyone over and over. (review here)
Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet Smooth-Effect Makeup
This is very similar to the L’Oreal Nude Magique Eau de Teint as it’s also a liquid-to-powder foundation. To be perfectly honest, even though I like it, I still find this foundation to be a little over-hyped. It’s not that it’s not a good foundation because it is but I find that the Eau de Teint does exactly the same thing without the hefty price tag. Having said that, this foundation is on my top 10 list because it’s perfect for traveling. As the Eau de Teint comes in a glass bottle and, pardon my French, a crappier-than-crap opening that is susceptible to spills, I use the Chanel one instead for traveling as it comes in a light plastic bottle and with a tiny opening on top. (review here)
Ah what a good list it is; at least, it is in my books. I like that there’s a good balance of drugstore and high-end foundations in my favourites and that I actually prefer a lot of the drugstore foundations to the high-end ones. It goes to show that a really good foundation doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg.
Still, it doesn’t mean I’m not going to keep searching! 😉
Stay tuned to tomorrow as I share my top 10 makeup powders with you!
What about you? Do you like any of the foundations I’ve mentioned? What makes your top 5 favourite foundations? What’s on that coveted Holy Grail spot?

The Rimmel Match Perfection and Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum are my faves too, perfect for my dry skin!
I just bought Rimmel’s new Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum foundation to try. Hope it’s as good or better than the Match Perfection or even the Healthy Mix Serum!
i’ve been eyeing GA luminous silk. currently i have NARS sheer glow and Chanel VA on rotation. i need a good excuse to get GA luminous silk. idea? lol
Hehehe you’re asking the wrong person here. You KNOW I’m going to say this. Getitgetitgetitgetitgetit.
PS: Every time I write that in a comment, I always see “get tit”. Ahem. 😛
I love the L’oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint too…but my other go-to is the one from Lancome…cannot remember the name but so far, that has been pretty good on my skin too.
Norlin recently posted..Fashion Day: Frocktober 2014 Update & Culling Dresses
Oooh is that the Teint Miracle? Or the Teint Visionnaire? Haven’t tried any of Lancome’s foundations. Yet. 😛
You made me go try the Revlon colour whipped pot. Baaaaaaaaaaad call. I have too many foundations. I already have my (I think) HG in Revlon Nearly Nude Foundation. But this is SO good. I’m really struggling at the moment with my skin, getting older has made the usual oil slick go a bit dry in places and it spun my head. This didn’t give me cakey bits like other do. In a quandry now – do I drop yet more money on foundation (with a $700 electricity bill just landed on the mat, make up is the last thing on my list to buy) – it looked soooooo good though!
Darn you Tine, you total and utter enabler!! 😛
Hehehe well, I try. 😛
I’m really glad the Nearly Nude works for you. It’s okay for me. Good quality, just not enough coverage but expected of course given the name.
Try one of those Project 5/10/15/20/50 Pan challenges where you have to finish an entire product (or all of the products you set out to finish) before buying a new one. Personally, I’d feel like I’ll be pulling my own nails off if you ask me not to buy any new makeup but I’ve heard of great results from those challenges. 🙂
