It’s day 4 on Makeup Favourites Week and today, we’re talking all about eyeshadows!
Here’s the thing: even though I have enough eyeshadows to last me many, many years, I’m actually very picky when it comes to actually applying it on my eyelids. Eh, what sort of nonsense is Tine talking about, I hear you ask? You see, a lot of the eyeshadows I had purchased over the years were done on a whim and usually when I’m suckered in by packaging. I have extremely oily eyelids and even with the best eyeshadow primer on, a lot of eyeshadows don’t last the day without creasing, smudging and fading. Unfortunately, although a lot of the eyeshadows I picked up over the years were very beautiful on the palette, even lovelier when swatched but when they were applied on my eyelids and used for an entire day, they didn’t cut the mustard at all.
In my list of top 10 eyeshadows are the ones that made the cut. Mind you, these are judged with eyeshadow primer on as I never wear eyeshadow without primers. These eyeshadows stay on my eyelids without any problems and are the ones I wear repeatedly. In fact, I’d happily give up the rest of my eyeshadows as long as I have these. Ahem, any takers? 😉

Urban Decay NAKED eyeshadow palette
Okay, this eyeshadow palette is seriously over-mentioned on the blog so I’m not going to say anymore about it other than the fact that it’s the bomb and I absolutely love it. The end. 😛
LORAC Pro Eyeshadow Palette
This eyeshadow palette was a recent discovery and as much as I love the Urban Decay NAKED palette, this has trumped that palette slightly. I love the variety of looks you can create with this palette and the quality of the eyeshadows are superb. I’m not a fan of the LORAC Pro 2 shades so I won’t be getting that but the Mega Pro? Hmm … tempting. (review here)
Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Eyeshadow 5-Colour Palettes
Estee Lauder’s eyeshadows used to be rubbish years ago, which is why I was thoroughly impressed at how gorgeous the Pure Colour Envy eyeshadow palettes are. The colours are lovely but better yet, the quality is fantastic. They’re creamy, not crazy glittery and best of all, they don’t crease on my eyelids after many hours of wear. I find them much better than Tom Ford eyeshadows, that’s for sure. (review here)
Maybelline Colour Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows
Another eyeshadow that’s highly mentioned here on Beautyholics Anonymous so, again, I won’t talk more about it other than if you haven’t tried them out yet, you’re really missing out on how awesome they are! If you only want one shade to try out, get Bad to the Bronze. Mind-blowingly good.
Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow Palettes
My very first high-end eyeshadow anything was a Dior quint eyeshadow palette. Admittedly, some of the eyeshadows palettes are a bit of a hit and miss, and a lot of the colours are quite sheer but the long and short of it is that they’re good quality eyeshadows. They’re creamy and not at all chalky. They’re usually in my I-want-to-splurge list. 😛
KIKO Water Eyeshadows
These babies are intense! They can be applied wet or dry and even when applied dry, the colour intensity is pretty damn full-on. It’s also very long-lasting on my oily eyelids. It’s a real pity that KIKO Cosmetics isn’t available in Australia because we’re missing out on some really good stuff here. I picked up a couple of the Water Eyeshadows from Italy and I regret not getting more. (review here)
Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick
Oooh these are handy lil’ eyeshadow stick things, aren’t they? Just swipe them on and you’re done! I made the mistake of blending mine out when I first tried them on and thought hang on, where did the eyeshadow go?! It was a lesson learnt: just swipe them on as close to the lash line as possible, do very minimal blending and it will stay on for hours.
Makeup Geek eyeshadows
I’ve been following Marlena in her Makeup Geek journey for years and after trying out her eyeshadows, I’m glad to say that all of her hard work has definitely paid off. I’ve only tried 9 of her vast range of eyeshadows and even though there were a couple of misses, the rest were lovely. They’re actually very reasonably-priced for the amount of eyeshadow you get per pan. Can’t wait to place my next order but this time, it’s for her blushes! (review here)
Maybelline Colour Tattoo Pure Pigments
For someone who finds loose pigment eyeshadows very fiddly and messy, it’s a surprise even to me that this made my top 10 list. I have to say, Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo range is impressive, even the Pure Pigments. Even though they still are fiddly to use, the colour intensity you get when you apply this over the Cream Eyeshadows is stunning. (review here)
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadows
I first heard of Benefit’s Cream Shadows from LeGeeque years ago when we first got to know each other. The first cream eyeshadow I purchased from Benefit was the Skinny Jeans and I was in love. It’s not as long-wearing as Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo cream eyeshadows but it’s still a very beautiful shade nevertheless. I still have a jar of the Skinny Jeans and whenever I’m having a lazy day (that can happen quite often), I’ll just swipe it on, blend it out and I’m done.
As you can see, these eyeshadows are nothing fancy and probably the ones you’ve heard from other bloggers as their favourites too. There’s a reason why a lot of these do so well and if you’re new to makeup and are venturing towards trying out eyeshadows, I highly recommend you give any of these a go. Try out Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo cream shadows first as they’re very easy to use and don’t cost a kidney. 🙂

Seriously though, those are great palettes. The Naked 2 and 3 don’t appeal to me at all but the first one is fab. Don’t like the Naked Basics and won’t get the Basic 2 either. Personally, I don’t like it for our type of non-deepset eyes. Makes our eyes look very flat.
I love that there are so many of my faves on here too! I’m super proud of myself for getting my eyeshadow/eye makeup collection down to 2 drawers lately… I know it’s still a lot but it’s a carefully curated bunch. Maybelline Color Tattoos, Dior & Urban Decay palettes (have you considered Vice? So much pretty!) and Benefit creaseless creams fill it’s acrylic organizers. Love! Now to go check out your eye primer post haha.. something I am sorely lacking!

Vice looks really lovely but I reckon I won’t wear a lot of the colours so I’m giving it a miss. I’m such a boring ol’ fart when it comes to eyeshadows. 😛
Naked palette and Make Up Geek are my most reached for! I do detest pigments with a passion but I might give the Maybelline one a go x

Just give one or two of the Pure Pigments a go. I highly recommend Downtown Brown and/or Improper Copper because each goes very lovely with Bad to the Bronze. Bad to the Bronze is great on its own but when you pop these pigments over it, it’s like yowza!
I love the Maybelline Color Tattoos eyeshadows. They are among the few cream eyeshadows that don’t crease on me without five minutes. And I so need to try Makeup Geek eyeshadows next.

Makeup Geek eyeshadows will have a price increase of US$1 each but even so, it’s still a lot cheaper than a lot of eyeshadows. 🙂
UD Naked can never be over-mentioned! =D In general, I love all the UD shadows I own.
I like M.A.C Amber Lights. I was so skeptical, but when I finally bought it and applied all over my lids, just using my fingers, it took my breath away.
I am also into Burberry, in particular Antique Rose, as a crease colour. I am one of those weirdos out there who hates taupes and browns, and find that burgundy makes a better taupe (so I have all sorts of burgundy in my stash).
I like KATE (can get in Malaysia/Singapore/HK) palettes too. US’s Wet ‘n’ Wild. And MakeupGeek, yes!! MUG eyeshadows have a higher hit rate than M.A.C!

I’ve actually never tried any of the KATE eyeshadows. I see it often when I’m back in Malaysia but I keep giving them a miss. I’m going to put at least one in my shopping list now!
