When these new Glam Matte lipglosses from L’Oreal landed on my desk for review, I took one look at the word “matte” and I was instantly worried. Oh dear, not another one of ’em matte lip products again? It’s definitely a trend that’s not going away anytime soon, these matte lips thing. After my last stint at matte lippies, it’s no wonder I was apprehensive about using these.
I tried one out and my oh my, it’s lovely. I ended up trying all of them out and they are gorgeous!
These Glam Matte Intense Matte Gloss lippies aren’t actually lip glosses but more of lip lacquers but just so I don’t confuse the heck out of anyone reading this, I’ll stick to the term “lip gloss” for now. They’re incredibly pigmented with strong, punchy colours. One swipe of the lip gloss is enough to give you bright, matte yet non-dry-looking lips.
- 508 Coral Denimista: Coral pink
- 510 Cherry Crop: Fuschia pink with cool undertones. This is similar to Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Ole Flamingo
- 511 Skinny Tangerine: Punchy orange with warm undertones.
- 512 Fuschia Flare: Neon pink (not fuschia as named). Not my style of colour but when blotted off as a stain, it’s very pretty.
- 513 Zip It Rouge: Burgundy with cool undertones. A very apt autumn shade. It’s my favourite because it’s absolutely gorgeous when blotted with a tissue and worn as a stain.
The Glam Matte lipglosses are very creamy on the lips. In fact, they’re very similar to Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet lip glosses so if you’re familiar with those, you’ll know how these will go on your lips. The brighter shades have decent staying power. I find that the lighter shades need more re-application than the stronger ones. Having said that, I would still reapply the brighter shades after a meal because by the end of the day without any reapplication, I’d find that the lip gloss had settled on my lip line like a lip liner.
If the bright shades are too much for you, here’s a secret: they actually look even better as a blotted-off stain. The shade 513 Zip It Rouge is very pretty when applied but if you blot if off gently with a tissue, the stained effect is stunning.
Do I recommend them? Oh yes I do! They’re definitely one of the better lip glosses from L’Oreal that I’ve tried, next to my favourite Shine Caresses. If you enjoy wearing bright matte lippies that aren’t drying on the lips, you’ll like the Glam Mattes.
L’Oreal’s Glam Matte Intense Matte Glosses retail at AU$21.95 each and are available at major pharmacies, supermarkets and departmental stores nationwide.
Boy, are those gorgeous! Haven’t seen them yet here, but I’ll be keeping my eyes open. Is there any peppermint oil in them (I hope not!)?

I checked the super tiny print of ingredients list. Doesn’t look like there’s any peppermint oil in them. It doesn’t taste nor feel minty either. 🙂
they don’t look really matte though! I’m really into matte lips at the moment, but prefer Nar’s velvet matte lip pencils, and not the lipgloss/lacquer/turn into matte offerings we’re getting now.

I wouldn’t call them super matte lipglosses but they’re definitely not glossy at all. They’re not in the really-matte-like-NARS league. I actually prefer these to the NARS; not into that matte a lip. I reckon this is considered the, erm, matte-st I’ll go. 😛
They all look gorgeous, especially Coral Denimista! If only L’Oreal wasn’t so expensive here!

L’Oreal is really expensive here too. What’s the price difference like for you? Here, it’s at least double US prices.
Here too, and that makes it almost as expensive as brands like Urban Decay and MAC. Frankly, I’d rather spend a bit more and invest in those, most of the time.

Me too. When Paris B was visiting Melb, she was very surprised to find the likes of Revlon and Maybelline sold alongside departmental store brands like Clinique, Estee Lauder, etc. E.g. for a L’Oreal or Revlon foundation, add $10 more and you can get a Clinique foundation.
Oh very pretty! Funny how they class themselves as a gloss yet it is a matte product… must just be because of the shape of the product is in the same format as their previous gloss products.

Yeah that’s what I thought too!
At first I though .. what an oxymoron .. “Matte” lip “Gloss” .. what? I’m not a fan of the whole matte lip movement .. but these look quite nice .. creamy as you say and the colors are really pretty.

Haha I know right? It IS an oxymoron! I guess they wanted a sort of word play or something to look like their other lip glosses.
