After waiting for yonks, Josie Maran is finally, FINALLY available in Australia. I was wondering if they’d ever be launched here and when they finally did, I wondered if it had something to do with the arrival of Sephora in Australia (opening in December in Sydney). Oh well, whatever the reason is, it’s finally here and there’s all there is to it!
I’ve been very interested in the brand for a while now and just a week after they were launched, I hauled bum to my nearest Kit Cosmetics to check out their wares. It’s refreshing to know that their prices are pretty close to their US counterparts (on average they’re about 20-30% more expensive in Australia, which is considered very good given that most other cosmetics are about 50-100% more expensive). Naturally I purchased a few items to try out and one of them was the Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipstick in Spirited Red.
What it looks like with 2-3 layers
This lipstick reminded me of Clarins’ Instant Smooth Crystal Lipbalm that also has the same concept of a balm surrounding the lip colour in the middle of the lipstick. However, while I found the Clarins lipstick quite drying despite the balm, the Josie Maran one is exactly as it should be. It might look like a tinted lipbalm due to the, er, balm-y bit but this is a lipstick through and through. The rest of the shades in the range are slightly more sheer but Spirited Red packs a punch in colour. It’s a very pretty cherry red and buildable to a very strong lip. It’s creamy on the lips, not at all waxy and keeps the lips feeling hydrated.
What it looks like as a stain
Longevity-wise, it’s pretty mediocre. It doesn’t last past a meal and you’ll definitely need to reapply after one. Having said that, it’s still a pretty decent lipstick and one that’s comparable to the more expensive departmental store brands.
I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!
Josie Maran’s Argan Love Your Lips Hydrating Lipsticks retail at AU$27.00 each and are available in 6 colours. You can pick one (or two or all six!) up at Kit Cosmetics stores, counters and the Mecca Cosmetica website.
Tine! NYX products are finally available in Target! Thought you’d want to know! (I use way too many exclamations!)
Haha I know! I’ve seen them at Target. Price not too bad too! 😀
