I first had a whiff of the Un Jardin Sur Le Toit during one of my rare trips to Hermès on Collins St. It’s a part of the collection from the garden-inspired fragrances Un Jardin. Un Jardin Sur Le Toit or “A Garden on the Roof” refers to the luxurious garden located on the roof of the Hermès headquarters at 24 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris.
Of course, I’ve never been to that rooftop (I’ve only had a chance to see a hint of the roof with the iconic flags that are actually Hermès’ iconic scarves) but I’ve seen pictures and boy, it’s lovely. You can check out what it looks like here.
Launched in 2011, the Un Jardin Sur Le Toit is not a new fragrance but it’s a beautiful one nevertheless. I’ve tried the other fragrances in the Un Jardin collection but the only one that appealed to me was the Sur Le Toit. I remembered thinking “the one on the roof! I must get the one on the roof!”. Somehow, I never did get it until a week ago when Mum gave me a small bottle of hers. It was gifted to her but she knew this sort of fragrance was more my thing so she gifted it to me instead.
Fragrance notes of the Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Toit: Apple, pear, rose, green grass, basil, magnolia and compost.
I’ve only seen the full-sized versions of the Un Jardin perfumes so it was a delightful surprise to see it in a delicate 15ml bottle still in its drawstring dustbag. The combination of flowers and fruits in the perfume just sings of spring time and all its loveliness to me. It’s a very “green” fragrance so at times I’d be smelling a hint of basil, the scent of grass after the rain and sometimes I’d smell a hint of pear and apples. It’s such a lovely fragrance.
Longevity-wise, it’s moderate. I wouldn’t say it’s super long-lasting; by the end of the day, I could still smell some of it on my skin but by then, it would just be soft notes.
If you’re thinking of splurging on a perfume, I highly recommend checking out Hermès. You can expect excellent service on top of the lovely fragrances they have. If perfumes with green notes are up your alley, why not check out the Garden on the Roof? 🙂
Oh this is one of my most favourites for summer! It was also done by JCE – resident perfumer at Hermes and my favouritest perfumer evar in this whole frigging world. I wore it consistently for a summer a few years ago but returned quietly to my local Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. The pear and earthynotes really comfort me.
This is such a beautiful perfume! Don’t know why I didn’t get this sooner. How cute is the wee dust bag? 😛
