Hello Saturday! Oh I’ve missed you so! Any plans for the weekend? I’m just going to do what I do best … nothing. And I’m damn good at it! 😛
Today I thought I’d show a few lipglosses from The Balm that I had the opportunity to try lately. I’ve only tried their eyeshadows and blushes (love, love, LOVE their blushes) so these lipglosses were an interesting discovery. The Plump Your Puckers are typically plumping lip glosses, which means that they contain ingredients like menthol to give your lips a tingling sensation and the appearance of swollen, kissable lips.
I like the taste of the lip glosses. They’re very fruity and smell good too. I don’t like sickly sweet lip glosses so these are just right in terms of taste and flavour. The tingling sensation is simply spot on. I love it! It’s not over-the-top tingly to the point where you’d think you just applied chilli on your lips but just right that when cool air hits your lips, it feels really good.
Unfortunately, even though I really like the taste, flavour and sensation of the lip glosses, I’m not a fan of how the lip glosses look like on my lips when they’re applied on bare lips. The lip glosses are very shimmery and even though they look pretty good in the photos, they don’t translate well in real life. Strawberry My Shortcake goes on pearlescent on the lips. Passion My Fruit looks the most natural when applied on its own. I had high expectations of Tutti My Fruitti because it looks lovely when swatched. However, when I applied it on my lips, it’s highly pearlescent to the point where it looks metallic on my lips. Personally, I’m not keen on metallic lips but if this is a look you like, then this is for you.
Having said that, when these lipglosses, especially the lighter ones like Passion My Fruit and Strawberry My Shortcake, are applied over lipstick, they make the lipstick pop. I’d prefer to wear them over lipstick than on their own.
If the lipglosses contained less shimmer, I’d give these an enthusiastic thumbs up. Now I’m just feeling “yeah they’re all right but could be better“. You know I mean?
The Balm Plump Your Pucker tinted lipglosses retail at AU$19.95 each, come in 11 shades and are available at David Jones stores, Adore Beauty and Skincarecosmetics.com.au.
Have you tried any lipglosses from The Balm? Did you like them?

I love theBalm, but I can’t do menthol. It dries out my lips something awful, boo hoo, and it took me years to figure out that menthol and peppermint oil are no-no’s for me. Instead, I’ve had really good results with City Lips Lip Plumper. Not only have my lips gotten plumper but the hyaluronic acid and collagen in the formula have healed my dry chapped lips! Woo hoo! I use Clear at night before bed (and it’s still on when I wake up), and during the day I tried Sundiego (light peach, OK but not enough color for me) and Holly, a great red that works well for me.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Menthol and peppermint oil are known skin irritants so it’s no wonder they don’t work for you. I’m really glad they don’t give me issues because I love the sensation it gives my lips. I gotta check out this City Lips Lip Plumper! I’ve not heard of it before and I don’t think it’s available in Australia. Boo!
Tutti My Fruitti .. pretty! I’ll have to pick these up just because the names are so cute!
