I first heard about this By Terry foundation when I watched one of Lily Pebble‘s videos. If you haven’t heard of her, I recommend checking out her videos on YouTube. She and Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup are one of my favourite British beauty bloggers and YouTubers, and they have enabled my beauty and fashion purchases many, many times. This foundation was one of them.
I believe this was raved in one of her makeup favourites videos and I knew I just had to check it out. Off I went to Mecca Cosmetica and after getting my colour matched and a mini makeover using more By Terry makeup, I was hooked. It went somewhere along the lines of me telling the makeup artist, “here, please take my money and give me that foundation. NOW!“.
I’ve been colour-matched to the No 5 Peach Beige and at that time, I thought it was a little too peachy for me. But when I’m out in natural light, it matches my skin tone perfectly so I must be wrong. Oh well. It’s a very lightweight and oil-free foundation. It dries quickly on my skin to a matte finish. Even though the name suggests it to be high coverage foundation (at least, that was what I initially thought), the coverage is only about a medium.
When I tried this out in store, I thought it was a good foundation. However, when I tried it out again with a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, the results were amazing. It was flawless yet very natural-looking skin. It didn’t look as though I was wearing foundation, like I had great skin. Even though it leaves a matte finish on the skin, a couple of hours later, it has a slight glow to the skin that’s just lovely. As for staying power, it showed signs of fading after the 10th hour mark.
Personally, I think this By Terry foundation kicks Chanel’s foundations’ bums. Heck, it’s better than a lot of high end foundations I’ve tried. Mind you, this is still expensive (it is, after all, still By Terry) but as far as expensive foundations go, this one is the bomb.
The only thing I don’t like about it is the scent. All of By Terry’s makeup and skincare contain a rose fragrance as it’s her signature scent. I’ve tried the Touch Expert Advanced highlighting concealer and I had no problems with it at all. This one doesn’t really smell like roses but more of jasmine. You know me, I’m not a fan of jasmine scents at all so while the results are bloody amazing, the application process can be a bit off-putting when I have to deal with the smell. If you love the smell of jasmine, this will be right up your alley, but it just isn’t my cup of tea.
Still, it’s a great foundation and if you’re looking to try out a high-end one, I highly recommend this By Terry foundation. This foundation very nearly joined my Holy Grail shelf only just missing by an inch with the fragrance. By Terry also has another foundation called the Sheer Expert Fluid Foundation, which is actually heavier in coverage and texture than the Ultra Correcting Coverage. I thought it was a tad confusing given that people would automatically assume that the Sheer Expert would have less coverage.
By Terry’s Cover Expert Perfecting Fluid Foundation Ultra Correcting Coverage retails at AU$89.00 for 35ml, comes in 12 shades and is available at Mecca Cosmetica.
What I like about it: Lightweight, oil-free, doesn’t make my face look oily after a few hours of wear. Instead, my face looks flawless yet natural.
What I do not like about it: Not keen on the fragrance.
I love my Chanel foundations but now you make me really want to try this By Terry one. I am testing out Dior Star at the moment. I may give this one a go next 🙂 The colour looks perfect on you by the way x

Thanks Grace! How are you finding the Dior Star? I’m pretty intrigued by it as well.
Heheheh I wore this one out to dinner last night and for some reason I REALLY noticed the scent, more than I have before, and thought wow it is actually really strong!!! Still love this product regardless 🙂
Right? Right? A lot of people are fine with the scent but for some reason, it really bugs me. I only tolerate it because the foundation is so damn good but lordy, the smell!
Wow Tine, I have so many foundations already so definitely don’t need another one … but this looks SO GOOD! Helps that I like jasmine scents too 🙂
Hahahaha let me guess, you too have enough foundations to paint your entire body? *high five*! 😀
You have got to try By Terry Terrybly Densiliss Foundation. It’s another Holy Grail product to keep!
Awww maaaannn why you gotta tell me? Now I MUST go check it out! 😛
I don’t think I’d mind the scent .. I do like florals (not a fan of manly, musky, sandal wood though).
I haven’t seen ByTerry in the US .. but I haven’t been to Bloomindales in a while and they usually carry the better brands. So I’ll have to check it out.
Monica.

Yeah I reckon By Terry will be stocked in departmental stores instead given that it’s quite a fancy brand. Too bad the products are so expensive. I’m very tempted to get one of their cream blushes but the price … ouch!
