Even though I enjoy wearing foundations, I typically stick to liquid ones. Compacts, not so much. Even less so with compact powder foundations. When I tried the L’Oreal Infallible Powder Foundation, I still maintained that it worked better as a setting powder than actual foundation because there was barely any coverage, much less the lasting power.
When the Bobbi Brown Skin Weightless Powder Foundation landed on my desk for review, I was sceptical as to how well it would work. Would it really be like an actual foundation with at least half decent coverage and lasting power? Or will it just be better as another setting powder?
Turns out, it’s actually not that bad. I’ll even go as far as to say that it’s pretty good! That is, if your expectations weren’t that high to begin with, which mine wasn’t. š
In terms of quality, it’s a very finely-milled powder that is buttery smooth and applies very easily on the skin. It’s exactly what I’d expect from Bobbi Brown. It didn’t emphasise any fine lines on my skin nor leave it dry and patchy. Hmm that’s a good start, isn’t it?
Oh, it gets better.
In terms of coverage, I’ll say it’s buildable to even a medium coverage without it looking cakey on the skin. I’ve piled layers on this powder foundation and it doesn’t feel as though I had any makeup on. It doesn’t make my skin look crepe-y at all, not even around my nose where the cakiness problem usually comes in. It’s like I had applied liquid foundation and set it with a matte setting powder with just one step.
Longevity-wise, it didn’t last as long as I hoped it would. It started to fade at around the 4th hour mark and by the 8th hour, a lot of the foundation was already gone. I had small streaks of foundation here and there by then.
If I needed to do my face up quickly without needing that full face of foundation on all day, then this is a huge time-saver because I just need to apply this without the need of a setting powder. But if I need my foundation to last me all day without fading, I wouldn’t use this. I’ll use a very light sweeping of this to set my liquid foundation though. Now that works a treat too without making my face look overly done.
I’d say check it out at your local Bobbi Brown counter and while it does look good on the skin, don’t expect it to last long because from my personal experience, it didn’t last long on my skin. But if you’re looking for a great quality setting powder that doesn’t make the skin look cakey, then this is a pretty good one to consider.
Bobbi Brown’s Skin Weightless Powder Foundation retails at AU$68.00 and is available at Bobbi Brown counters at selected David Jones, MYER, Mecca Maxima stores and online at bobbibrown.com.au.
What I like about it: Gives decent coverage without leaving the skin looking cakey and unnaturally powdered, very fine quality of powder. Also works as a setting powder for oily skin (when used with a light hand).
What I do not like about it: Doesn’t last long on the skin.
Gee, that’s too bad it didn’t last longer because it looked lovely on you. I have never tried a powder foundation except for Bare Minerals, and I don’t love it. I have heard good things about the Bobbi Brown foundation stick. Have you tried it? Or was it you who reviewed it some weeks ago, lol??! Also, read that BB has a great concealer that I need to check out.

Nah, wasn’t me. Haven’t tried out any other foundations by Bobbi Brown before. I know that she does a great concealer though but I haven’t actually tried it out given that I’m, erm, quite lazy to use concealer in the first place. Not that I don’t need it (hello dark circles and blemishes!), I’m just too lazy to add that extra step. š
I really love the finish of this foundation, as a liquid user who never uses compact foundations I was a bit apprehensive at first but it just looked and felt so gorgeous on… for me the biggest problem was the lack of coverage on my pigmentation and blemishes. Will just have to go a bit harder on the concealer when I’ve got this on I think, or just use it as a setting powder.

Yeah I feel the same. Coverage is just not enough for my blemishes too. I’m currently just using this on days I need to quickly add a bit of coverage and powder on my skin or just as a setting powder. For days that I need proper coverage on all day, I can’t use this. I agree with you though; the finish of this foundation is lovely.
The only pressed powder foundation I have is Lunasol but it’s hardly used. I like the convenience in a dry pressed form but I do prefer the finish of liquid foundations. I have to say that this BB version looks pretty good on you. Too bad it doesn’t last long though. It will probably slip right off my face especially in our tropical weather.

That’s true. I definitely will not be bringing this to Malaysia with me when I’m back for CNY. It’s most likely going to melt off my face leaving imprints where my glasses rest!
