Ahh … another purchase enabled by Emma. Woman, you will be the death of my wallet yet! 😀
When I first saw the Essence Dark Romance Velvet Mousse Blush on Emma’s blog, I was intrigued. I’ve used a lot of cream blushes and a couple of blush mousses (remember the ones by Maybelline yonks ago?) but never one that looked as bright and as, er, moussey as this. The shade 01 in Painted Love reminds me very much for LUSH’s Santa’s Lip Scrub. The red is incredibly vibrant and in store, it just screamed “BUY ME!“. So I did!
Painted Love is a cool-toned cherry pink even though it’s bright red in the pot. Even so, it actually goes on quite sheer. The more you blend the product, the less obvious it becomes. It has a silicone-like consistency much like face/eyeshadow primers.
Unfortunately, in terms of staying power, it’s not that good. It’s not a stain that lingers when most of the top layer of pigment has faded. It’s quite easy to remove with a swipe of a tissue so to ensure its longevity, it’s best to either layer a powder blush over it or set the blush with face powder.
It’s a cute blush to have and the colour is gorgeous. Blending is very easy with this mousse blush and even though it does look crazy red, you won’t have any problems blending it out and making it look a lot more natural on the skin. At AU$4.50 a pot, really, it’s a bargain. 🙂
What a beautiful, vibrant colour. Don’t think I’ve actually tried a mousse blush like this one. It looks interesting and is such a bargain! Will have to keep a lookout for this.

The Dark Romance is a limited edition collection so I’m not sure if it’s still available. I didn’t get mine long ago so I reckon you can still get this. Fingers crossed! 🙂
I’m always interested in essence’s LEs, but we don’t get them at Ulta stores in the U.S. I think their LEs are really cute and often innovative. I wish they were more widely available. I also thought it looked like the adorable Santa Lip Scrub from LUSH that I still love and use. Enjoy the blush. It looks great on you!

That’s what I thought too! And they’re so cheap! Drugstore makeup is ridiculously expensive compared to US prices but we can actually get Essence makeup her for less than AU$5 and that’s saying something.
I’m still using the Santa Lip Scrub too. Yum! 😛
I think I’m gonna have to buy this now, Tine! Looks very cute and the colour looks gorgeous on you! xx

Thanks lovely! I hope it’s still available. It’s a pretty one all right. 🙂 x
What a cute stain! The colour looks great on you. It’s very summery.
Crazy bright on the pot, just so on the skin. Spot on, I say!
I’ve found that with all the Essence blushes I’ve tried so far – super cute in the pot, weirdly terrible staying power! Where does it all go??
