Happy Monday, folks!
If you’ve been shopping at MYER lately, you’ll notice that Kit Cosmetics is finally stocking Cargo cosmetics. When I first found out that it’s now available in Australia, my first thought was “FINALLY!” I tried some of their makeup years ago and they’re actually pretty good. Apparently they were available in Australia about 10 years ago, got pulled and now, years later, it’s back again.
Good. Stay put, y’hear Cargo?
Anyway, I had the pleasure of trying out a couple of recent products from Cargo and today I thought I’d share my thoughts about the Cargo HD Picture Perfect Translucent Powder with you.
Truth be told, I haven’t used loose powder in about 2 years. I used to use loose powder religiously but after discovering Guerlain’s Meteorites and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, I’ve stopped using loose powder altogether. I’ve almost forgotten how to use it! 😛
The Cargo translucent powder doesn’t come with the usual plastic sifter and powder puff that I’m so used to. Instead of a plastic lid with holes for a sifter, this one comes with a mesh. The lid has a protruding bit that stops at the hole perfectly so it won’t spill.
It’s a very fine-milled translucent powder that doesn’t add colour and should suit most skin tones. However, I’ve not seen this on much darker skin tones so I’m not sure how this will work on them. You only need very little of it to set your foundation. Use a face or body brush on the mesh, tap away the excess powder and then apply it on your skin. Be careful not to use too much powder because it can settle into the fine lines.
As it’s a HD powder, it’s meant to look good in flash photography. I tried it out and to be honest, I didn’t see a difference if it’s used on its own. There isn’t enough powder on the skin to make it flash photography-friendly (unless you also use a HD foundation). I tried this out over a regular foundation and it still gave me a bit of a white cast on my face. However, if I use this over HD foundation, then yes, it does look a lot more natural with flash photography. On its own, it’s no different from any other loose powders.
If you’re in the market for a new loose powder, this is something you might like to check out. It doesn’t leave your skin looking cakey and controls the oilies well. Combo skin girls, methinks you’ll like this one. 😉
Cargo HD Picture Perfect Translucent Powder retails at AU$43.95 for 9g and is available at Kit Cosmetics.
What I like about it: Finely milled, doesn’t add extra colour to the skin, sets foundation well, good oil control.
What I do not like about it: Doesn’t give the HD effect and is not flash photography-friendly when used on its own.
I still haven’t tried any Cargo products. I tried to but Ulta sold out of the palette I wanted in 20 minutes during their 20 Days of Beauty Sale. Since I don’t use a flash (I know I should get a real camera one of these days) so I haven’t been concerned about that. I occasionally use Bare Minerals translucent loose powder, or Estee Lauder translucent pressed powder. However, I am yearning for Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder so next sale at Sephora, I’m there!

If you’re thinking of getting the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder, then I’d say skip this and get that one instead!
Hourglass ambient powders are the best! I cant find any negative things to say about the ambient powders. hehe. The Cargo packaging+lid cover is the same as Tarte loose powder which I love too!
Thanks for the review 🙂
You’re right, it’s just like Tarte’s! 🙂
My skin is pretty awful and blotchy; I go to a lot of conferences where I end up in pictures, and my skin always looks flawless in them. This stuff is a lifesaver 🙂
