Priceline does 40% off cosmetics (makeup or skincare) every now and then, which is dangerous because I always end up buying a lot more stuff than I need. Can’t blame a girl for trying especially when the cost of, well, almost everything in Australia is so high.
One of the items I picked up during one of those sales was Garnier’s Perfect Blur Smoothing Base Perfector. Do I need it? Nope. Do I want to try it out just to see what it’s like because I’m a beauty blogger and I’m curious that way? Hell yes.
Beauty brands are getting on this “blurring” bandwagon these days. Indeed Labs has the Nano Blur. L’Oreal Paris USA has the RevitaLift Miracle Blur (wonder if they’re bringing it to Australia). Now we have Garnier and their Perfect Blur. We must need these “blurring technology” on our skin real bad, huh? 😛
*Tine’s hole-y nose says yes*
Description:
Developed with new technology from Garnier, the perfecting formula is enriched with optical light reflectors. They scatter light in all directions to instantly hide the signs of ageing. Thanks to the optical effect of the light reflectors, your winkles, fine lines, skin imperfections, uneven tone and open pores appear reduced and visibly corrected. Immediately skin feels ultra-smooth and looks visibly younger with a matte finish.
The Perfect Blur is applied after day cream or sunscreen but under makeup. The cream is a thick mousse but spreads out thinly without feeling heavy on the skin. It has a very subtle floral fragrance that is easily missed, which is good.
This cream is fully packed with silicones, is velvety smooth and glides very easily on the skin with a matte finish. It’s very similar to silicone-based makeup primers like Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer and the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer.
The Perfect Blur gets rid of shine and reduces the appearance of my pores. It didn’t eliminate the appearance of them altogether. I have enlarged pores and some which, well, needed a lot more help to cover with “spackle” than the rest. By the way, this cream is not meant to get rid of pores, it’s just meant to make them look like they’re really small or better yet, don’t exist.
It gives a very smooth appearance to the skin. My nose, forehead and anywhere else that has holes and lines on it look “blurred”. Makes it look as though I just use the Gaussian Blur filter in Photoshop on my skin 😛 . Foundation glides on the skin like butter and makes it look flawless.
Please excuse the photo of my bulbous nose. As you can see, I have a lot of enlarged pores here and thought it would be the best place to show you the results of the Perfect Blur.
At the end of the day, fancy description aside, this is pretty much a makeup primer. My base makeup like foundation and BB cream last longer without dragging and streaking on my skin after many hours of wear. For the price, it’s a pretty decent primer and is comparable to a lot of expensive primers. It’s not as good as my Hourglass primer but it’s not bad at all. However, if you’re allergic to silicone, then this is something you’d want to stay away from. This didn’t break me out at all. Phew!
Garnier Perfect Blur Smoothing Base Perfector retails at AU$16.99 for 22ml and is available at pharmacies and supermarkets nationally.
What I like about it: An affordable makeup primer that covers pores quite well giving the skin a blurred, almost flawless effect.
What I do not like about it: Contains a lot of silicone that can be an irritant to some skin types.
Don’t we all pick up things we don’t need during those dangerous 40% off sales?! I remember being really intrigued about this product when I heard about this release, there was something about it that made it seem a little different to the usual primer. The price is pretty decent for blurring & getting rid of shine!

The blurring is pretty good but I’m a lot more impressed at it getting rid of shine. When I applied it, the shine on my nose was instantly erased.
Oh those sales are very dangerous! The skincare ones are more practical because I normally pick up staples that I use on a regular basis but when it’s makeup, it’s like “ooh cheap, try, BUY!!”. 😛
Those sales ARE dangerous! But if were probably going to buy beauty products anyway then why not? 😉
And once again you have added to my list of should-try’s. I’m becoming such a big fan of these types of products. The older my skin gets the more I feel these will save me from resorting to extreme skin-measures.
You make my Friday great with your funny/informative reviews! I hope you guys had a awesome Christmas and New Years xxx

Aww thanks Kaye. I’m enjoying your travel posts too. And may I just say, your photos … WOW!!! 😀
Mum and Dad brought some over with them from the UK a few months back (obviously it was out in the UK before here, but not too long ago for once, so that’s good Garnier, well done! :D), and I have to say I’m really really disappointed with it personally.
Really hoped to find something to dupe my HG benefit Porefessional at a greatly reduced price, unfortunately this did not a single thing for me, just ended up a huge grease ball of silicon 🙁 it was such a pretty tube as well!
Oh well, never mind – nothing ventured nothing gained 🙂

Aww damn, too bad it didn’t work for you 🙁 Yeah, it has a lot of silicone in it which isn’t for everybody. I’ve only swatched the Porefessional and haven’t used it on my skin so I can’t really compare. I know that it’s pretty silicone-y too.
Oh well, plenty more beauty products to try. 😉
I got this from my London trip and have used it on and off. It’s not bad but I don’t quite like that silicone-y feeling. I tend to prefer primers with a lotion consistency however, I don’t mind the silicones.

Yeah this one is pretty jacked up in silicones. For the price and what it does, it’s not bad. Still prefer my Hourglass primer, which I can buy at least five tubes of the Garnier. :-/
Wow! Never know that Garnier came out with this makeup primer! Cool~~ May I know how does it differ if compared to the Pore Professional from Benefit?
I’ve only swatched the Porefessional and haven’t used it on my face so I can’t give you an accurate comparison. They’re both pretty silicone-y though. A reader (Hilary) tried this and the Porefessional but was disappointed with this one.
