It took me this long to finally cave in and try the popular Maybelline Baby Lips lipbalm. There were lots of mixed reviews on this; a lot of people love it and there were also a lot of people who hate it. Seeing that I already have so many lipbalms to last me a lifetime … well of course I need another one now, don’t I?
There were so many to choose from and since I love anything that taste like oranges, I picked up the one in Energizing Orange. Okay, can I end the Quickie Mention right now and say that this was a waste of $3.50? No?
I don’t like it. It’s hard, waxy, just coats the lips but doesn’t moisturise it and makes it rubbish for lipsticks to sit on top. There isn’t much of an orange taste, not even an artificial one. I don’t know, is it just me? Or do you feel the same about the Baby Lips too?
Man, that $3.50 could have gone to a very good cup of coffee. π
Me too, i am not too fond of it! I have the one in mango flavor, it is not great for moisturizing. But it does smell a lilttle bit of mangoes, and that is why i m still keeping it! π

Aww damn. There’s a mango one? I would have gotten that one instead! But I probably will still hate it and will still waste a coffee’s worth. π
Sad to hear that it did not suit you. I used the Maybelline Baby Lip Balm in menthol. So far so good. I would not say it’s a very decent product but still alright for me.
Good to know it works for you :). I’ve definitely had better.
Thank you for the heads up (once again!) – I have been tempted for so so long to join the band wagon and get one of these and now I don’t have to! Hurray. My husband thanks you too π

Yeah, I’d say don’t bother. There are better ones out there. One of my favourite’s the one by Uriage. Love that one. Oh and also the one by Pangea Organics. But for something you can get from Priceline, I’d say the Nivea and Carmex ones are pretty good too.
I’ve never tried these Baby Lips before but I’ve tried an older Maybelline lipbalm and it sucked. Waxy, hard and not moisturising at all. You’re better off getting Nivea or Vaseline.

My sentiments exactly. I’m much happier with Vaseline. This one is not good, not good at all.
I bought the Cherry one and I didn’t like it either! Too waxy, I was “feeling” too much. I threw it in the bin. But a couple of months later, a French beauty blogger raved about them so I got tempted and bought the same one (thinking that maybe I got a bad batch or something!). And same thingβ¦ hated it! You need lots for a hint of colour and then it’s too much.

That’s what I thought too. Too hard and waxy. It doesn’t glide on the lips smoothly. It almost rubs on your lips like your car would go over bumps. No likey. π
Definitely not the only one. I found these balms such a let down after the massive hype up in the beauty world. The packaging is way cute though which is a bit of a shame. What would you say your favourite lip balm is? x
Exactly. There was so much hype about this that I had to finally give it a try. Too bad you can’t try it out first. Guess there won’t be much sales on this if they allow you to do that. π
Favourite lip balms? I have two. The one by Uriage (lip barrier something? They only have one) and Pangeo Organics Lavender and Cardamom. Love them to bits.
I’ve been using essence Kiss Care Love lip balms instead. In the US, they are cheaper than the Babylips, and I find that they are quite good at moisturizing. I have no trouble applying lipstick on top of them. I just finished one up, and have to find the one I bought a few weeks ago. However, I just bought Chapsticks new 8 hour formula because it’s cold here now and my lips are very dry. It’s a nice lip balm, but it’s not lasting 8 hours.

When it’s very cold and very dry, I like my Uriage lip balm. I’m not sure if you can get it in the US (definitely can get it online); it’s very good for cold and dry temps. A friend of mine (editor of Beauty Swatch) swears by it when she has to go to Mongolia to visit her in laws. We’re talking like, -20C! π
I was disappointed by these lip balms too. The shade I tried, Pink Punch, doesn’t feel waxy and glides smoothly on the lips, but is not that moisturizing. I think it’s ok overall, but it definitely doesn’t live up to its hype. What a shame.

I agree; the Baby Lips have been hyped to the max for the past few years. It’s cheap, yes, but the quality leaves much to be desired. I’d rather save the $3.50 for a good cup of coffee that I’d drink and not chuck. π
You weren’t the only one disappointed by those balms!
After seeing how it was so highly raved about, I bought one to try it out..didn’t like it.
It was waxy, artificial scent and had a weird aftertaste that I didn’t like.. wasn’t that moisturising either! So I tossed it out.
A few months later (beauty bloggers/youtubers were still raving about it), I decided to buy another one to give it a try..thinking that the first time was a fluke (so many people can’t be wrong right??!!). I disliked it just as much and tossed it out. HAHA, its safe to say I’ve given it a fair trial period and I’ve concluded that its not for me.
Aww another reader did the same as you! She bought another to try out again just in case her first one was a lemon. Turns out it still gave her the same unfavourable results. Yeah I’m happy to NOT recommend this one. Save your money on a good cuppa, people! π
