Y’know, for someone who’s bonkers about blush, do you know that the last time I blogged about blush was on the Rudiments of Rouge series in July?! How the heck is that even possible? Over three months of blush silence is almost sacrilegious on Beautyholics Anonymous. Time to rectify that, pronto! π
Today, I thought I’d share with you a blush I picked up at Boots in the UK during my holiday a month ago. It stinks that Soap and Glory still hasn’t brought their makeup line to Australia yet when they have a wide range of pretty makeup along with their skin and body care products in the UK. Whilst you probably won’t be able to get this till the cows decide to come home (unless you managed to have someone in the UK help bring the goodies to you; if that’s the case, can I be your friend? :P), I thought I might show you a bit of cute eye candy first.
Okay I’ll admit it, I bought the Love At First Blush purely due to the packaging. I didn’t even swatch it first. The packaging was cute, the blush looked pretty and I just snapped it up. I had absolutely no idea how this would look on the skin. Erm, don’t pick this bad habit from me, ladies. I just took a gamble that this might be good. π
The compact is made of cardboard and closes with a hidden magnet. It also comes with a mirror which cops a lot of powder fallout from the blush. As for the blush itself, it’s a mixture of white highlighting powder and shimmery peachy pink blush. I found a few of uses with this compact. You can use a setting brush (e.g. Real Techniques Setting Brush) just on the white powder to highlight your skin, a very light swirl mixing the colours together for a glowing finishing powder or just concentrate on the peachy pink shades as a blush. You’ll need a very light hand with the peachy-pink shades lest you end up looking like you have two mini disco balls on the apples of your cheeks.
The peachy pink shades are very sheer so if you want more colour on your cheeks, you’ll have to add more layers. On the other hand, adding more layers also meant adding more unnecessary shimmer on your skin. It’s the kind of blush that I’m not super keen on. Having said that, this does look good over cream blush. Say you’ve applied some cream blush on your cheeks. Setting it with the Love At First Blush would make it pop.
Was this an impulse buy? Oh most definitely. I wanted to try out some of the makeup from Soap and Glory and you know I can’t resist blush. I’d like it a whole lot more if it contained less shimmer. As an all-round highlighter, I’d say it works. Just as a blush, maybe not so much.
Moral of the blush story: try before you buy. π
Soap and Glory’s Love At First Blush Multi-shade Blushing Powder retails at Β£11.00 and is available at Boots pharmacies in the UK. Come on, Mecca Cosmetica and Kit Cosmetics, bring the makeup line to Australia already!
Have you tried out any of Soap and Glory’s makeup? If you have, what’s your favourite? If not, is there a particular one you’d like to try?
This reminds me of a really shimmery version of Benefit’s Hervana…

Ding ding ding! You got that right, it does look like a very shimmery version of the Hervana!
ohh the shades remind me of ksuan’s natio highlighter/bronzer blush….i wonder how they compare
I’ve not tried that one by Natio but I’ll keep a lookout for it! π
Have to say I love the lip plumps they do especially the browny nude one…hmmmmm…chocolate flavour π
If you ever want anything boots just let me know Tine and I’ll have my brother send some over π

Oooh the Sexy Motherpuckers? Those are pretty good!
PS: Oooh you have someone in the UK? Can I be your friend? π π π
I have lots of people in the UK – we only emigrated here from there last year, so all family/friends are still over there. And as I have a bit of a lack of friends here yet, you certainly can my dear π (That’s what happens when you spend your first 18 months in a country traveling around in a campervan! opps!)
Just let me know what/when you want stuff and we’ll sort something out π

Haha you’re too kind Hilary, thank you so much π x
This line is hard to find in the US too! LOVE their body lotion.
Aww even in the US? Damn! Must be just popular in the UK then. Bugger. π
lol! i always kena with buy first, think later kinda concept when it comes to blush and nail polish. i have some misses but still ok, my biggest miss was a bloody expensive Guerlain blush, which is just… so blah and meh! takes quite a bit of work to make it work, but at least I don’t need to bin it!
i really need to try first buy later! #selfreminder

Ouch! A Guerlain mistake sure is painful! I know the feeling. The white sakura blush thing? Don’t really like it. π
oh no not the sakura one, it’s their older blush, the 4 eclats. I have it in rosee du printemp, as pretty as the name sounds, I just don’t have the love for it. It’s way too light for my liking when used on it’s own, but it’s nice as a layering blush, much like how I use the Sakura.

I never try any makeup items from soap and glory. But I agree with you that their packaging is so candy and eye catching. Thanks for sharing!
Soap and Glory’s changing their cute packaging to boring white ones. Hopefully they don’t bring the changed ones to Australia. The appeal of Soap and Glory is in the packaging which baffles me as to why they want to change it. *shakes head*
This is nice! Looks simple and fresh! Good for everyday walk. I do not like too much blush on the face and those with too much βshining, shimmering, splendidβ makeup on the face. =)
Thanks! It’s a beautiful one π
Oh this is lovely! And your skin looks stunning btw
