I’m just thinking back on when the last time it was that I used lipgloss … and I can’t remember! We go through phases of makeup where we begin experimenting with lipgloss and once we start wearing more makeup, we move on to lipsticks. At least, I know I did. I’ve been wearing lipsticks a lot more than gloss these days mostly because windy days and long hair just don’t go well together. Especially when said gloss and hair sticks to your face and leaves unsightly pink/red lines which you didn’t even notice! 😛
Still, it’s nice to go back to the basics every now and then. When Revlon sent me some of their Super Lustrous lipglosses to try out, I was impressed at how beautiful the colours were. So gloss on hair on face be damned; I’m going to slap some lipgloss on and battle the wind. 🙂
I thought I’d show you 4 lovely shades today. There are heaps more in the Super Lustrous range but I thought these colours are good choices especially if you’re just starting to build your lippie collection. These are pigmented but not crazily so that your lips get smacked with colour at first application. They’re typical lipglosses that inject a shine of colour on your lips, not so much lip lacquers like Rimmel’s Apocalips or L’Oreal’s Shine Caresse.
Super Natural: A lovely milky nude. It tones down naturally red or pink lips but doesn’t wash them out. I’m not usually a fan of nude lippies but I really like this one.
Fuchsia Finery: As it’s name suggests, it’s fuchsia. It looks like muted pink on the tube, appears quite bright when swatched but when it’s applied on the lips, it’s a pretty, creamy pink. No Barbie pinks here.
Kiss Me Coral: Even though it has coral in the name, it’s more of a warm-toned red with a hint of shimmer.
Fatal Apple: Cool-toned creamy red. I find that it sinks into the lines and looks quite obvious if you only just apply one coat. I like at least 3-4 coats of this beautiful red on my lips.
Like conventional lipglosses, the Super Lustrous ones are sticky. Woe betide you if you have long hair and these get on your lips on a windy day. Now that my hair’s a lot shorter, even though I still get hair plastered on my lips on windy days, it’s not that bad anymore. These lipglosses don’t last long and are usually gone when you eat or drink. Personally, it doesn’t bother me because I’m happy to reapply after a drink or a meal.
The Super Lustrous lipglosses are beautiful ones. With all the expensive high-end lipglosses out there, it’s easy to forget that you can get much more affordable ones that look just as good if not better. You can’t beat Revlon for a good classic lippie. After all, my first lipgloss was from Revlon. 🙂
Revlon Super Lustrous lipglosses retail at AU$21.95 each and are available in 16 shades at Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, MYER, Big W, Kmart, Target and selected pharmacies and stores nationwide.
What I like about it: Beautiful and wide variety of colours, not too sticky.
What I do not like about it: Doesn’t last long on the lips. Another point is, and I’m nitpicking of course, I wish Revlon would price their products lower in Australia. It’s only US$7.99 in the US.
Have you tried any of Revlon’s Super Lustrous lipglosses before? Your thoughts? Oh and if you can remember, what was your very first lipgloss? 🙂
Note: This lippies were provided for editorial consideration.
You’re right, you can’t go wrong with basics from Revlon. They do fantastic foundations and lip products.
A way to manage the high prices, I suppose is to wait for a BOGOF sale I suppose. But I understand, it’s not the point.

I really don’t know why Revlon has such shocking prices here. Sigh. Even PB was very surprised to see it as a departmental store brand and not just a drugstore one. ‘Tis a pity because they certainly have very good foundations and lip products. I still have my very first Revlon lipgloss in Malaysia. Probably manky as hell but I just couldn’t throw it away. 🙂
I bought one of their sister lipglosses, from Almay, by mistake a week ago. I was looking for a long-wearing liquid lipstick and ended up with lipgloss instead. The color looked super-saturated in the tube, but when I tried it on, it was meh. So back to the store it went. Those colors are pretty, but they still didn’t have quite enough color for me. I’ll stick with my Estee Lauder gloss, but like you, I mostly wear lipstick. I just love the color and texture of lipstick.

Ooh I’ve not tried any lip products from Almay (only their foundation and powder). Not that good? Okay, I’ll steer clear of it. Have you tried Estee Lauder’s Pure Gloss Stick? It’s their lipgloss in a lipstick. Gorgeous stuff 🙂
The Almay gloss seemed OK but I was looking for a liquid lipstick and thought that’s what I was buying. My favorite lipgloss is the Estee Lauder in the square “tube” with a wand. I haven’t noticed the Pure Gloss Stick yet. I’ll definitely keep my eyes open! Hope you’re feeling well 🙂

Thanks Allison. Everything went well. Will share more when the time is right 🙂 x
I would check these out as I am more of a lipgloss kind of girl. The price??? Words fail me 🙁

See the difference?? It’s dollar for dollar to Revlon sold in Malaysia! That’s 1/3 of the price here 🙁
I agree on the price point!! Way too high Revlon! C’mon, lower it and trust me, sales will shoot sky high!! Anyway, I thought I’d love the fuchsia finery when I saw the swatch on your hand, but having seen the lip swatches, I’m loving Fatal Apple & Kiss Me Coral!

Where else in the world is Revlon sold at departmental stores along with high end brands? Sigh. They really should lower the prices because they have so many good products but the price is such a turn-off.
these are such pretty wearable colours, it’s been a long while since I’ve last touched my Revlon lipglosses. They come out with pretty colours, but never like their stickiness haha!

Haha yeah I know what you mean. These are typically sticky lipglosses so it’s hair-sticky all right 😛
I have some of these. But not a big fan of them. Find their lipsticks better.
My first gloss was L’oreal GlamShine, and I had love it. L’oreal has since revamped their GlamShine line.

Agree with you. As good as these lipglosses are, I find their lipsticks better too. My next lipgloss after Revlon was the L’Oreal Glam Shine too! Boy, I haven’t used any in ages! 😛
I have super natural and I like it a lot. It’s a great shade for everyday or smokey looks, but I just wish it lasted more on the lips.

Yeah, the lasting power of these lipglosses are pretty meh. Easily removed, especially the Super Natural.
I just bought one Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss in the shade of Super Natural. It was nice colour on my lip but as you said it is not long lasting and a bit sticky but the stickiness level still is the level that I can tolerate though. Good product from Revlon!
Super Natural is one of the very very few nude lipglosses I’d wear. Good to know the stickiness level is tolerable 😛
