Happy hump day, fellow beautyholics!
It’s been 8 weeks since my last Bloggie Wednesday post! Woah, I don’t think I’ve ever had such a long break from writing about blogging. Ahh it’s no wonder I miss it. 🙂
Today, instead of talking techie things, I thought I’d share some of my post-holiday blogging blues with you and how I had to nip that in the bud.
When I was younger, if I were to miss more than 2 Sundays of church services, I find it very difficult to return. I think it’s the combination of having to wake up very early and the feeling of “I wonder if anyone missed me” that made me very reluctant to go back. My mum had to kick my behind to make sure I get off my lazy bum and get ready to go to church.
The funny thing is, I can say the same for blogging.
Before I left for my holiday, I was pretty anxious on how things would pan out when I’m away from the blog. It was a crazy busy month before the holiday began as I had to prepare scheduled content for when I’m away too. Trying to prepare 5 weeks worth of almost daily content proved to be too hard for me so I had to space them out. In the end, it still wasn’t enough and I still had a 3-week no-blogging gap. I didn’t feel good leaving the blog unattended for so long.
As time went on, I started to slowly let it go. I was on holiday after all and given that my opportunity to visit a small part of Europe didn’t come along every day, I stopped fussing about the blog and started to enjoy myself. I didn’t tweet. I posted a few photos on Instagram and that’s about it. I wouldn’t say I forgot about my blog but it stopped being my top priority.
When the holiday was over, it was time to get back onto the blogging wagon and boy, it was difficult. I couldn’t believe it but I actually found it difficult to be excited about writing about beauty again. Trust me, it happens. No matter how much you’re passionate about beauty, there will come a time or two when you find it just … meh (okay, please don’t say it’s just me who feels that way). Oh dear. Alarm bells started to ring when I picked up a new lippie and I went … meh. I found the words difficult to flow out of my mind and hands and onto the blog too. It was high time I got out of my post-holiday funk and back to the work I (used to) enjoy.
Staring at the keyboard and monitor trying to get the words out doesn’t help. I started to immerse myself in my favourite Youtube videos. I read beauty and fashion magazines to get the inspiration flowing again (by the way, if you haven’t checked out the newly launched ELLE Australia yet, you should. It’s actually pretty impressive!). I took many photographs of my beauy shopping haul. I went for a beauty treatment (just a brow wax but hey, better than nothing). I chatted with my friends and fellow beauty aficionados on new products. I went window shopping at beauty counters for inspiration and ideas. Slowly but surely, that passion, that interest, they came back. The desire to blog again increased. Hello, I’ve written my first post!
I hope these little tips help you in getting you out of your post-holiday blogging funk. If all fails, go and have a play with your shopping haul. That should get your writing juices flowing a bit. As I write this, I’m also stroking my bag which I bought in Heathrow. Dr Evil-style. 😉
So if you’re back from a holiday and have trouble getting in front of the blogging wheel once more, fret not. It’s natural that you still have your holiday head screwed on. I know I do. It does take a bit of time to get the engine running again but once you do, it’s chocks away and off you go!
Welcome back Tine!!

Thanks and thanks for the blog post idea! What do you mean by my blogging routine? As in, how I got about blogging? If you can give me more questions, I’ll try to write a post on it 🙂 x
This happened to me when I wasn’t blogging regularly. First week was awful as I felt guilty neglecting the blog, then I reasoned it out that life just got busy. Thereafter it was like maybe no one is missing me , so what’s the point.
But since I have got back to blogging, I am loving it. I just set a target for myself and prepared a calendar to plan my posts.
Good to have you back in the blogging community Maddy! x
