I should begin this post by saying that this post isn’t sponsored by The Body Shop nor are any of the products mentioned provided for editorial consideration. It’s just one of those walk-in moments that you end up learning something about. Don’t you love it when that happens with no pressure to buy anything?
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I was at Camberwell with Tim for a spot of brunch. I enjoy walking up and down Burke Road perusing the shops. We happened to walk past The Body Shop when I decided to walk in and have a look at what’s new. Also, the mango body butter was calling my name. π
The lady who attended to me was lovely (sadly I forgot to get her name). Since the store was pretty quiet that morning, she sat me down and told me sheβll give me a nice hand scrub and massage because, and I quote, βit feels damn good and it’s free so why not?β Um okay if you say so! π
She gave me a quick history lesson of The Body Shop. Did you know that the first body butter by The Body Shop wasn’t the cocoa butter ones? It was actually the mango. See, I had no idea! She even taught me a quick trans-seasonal body care recipe for prepping the skin for the next season. She tried it out on me and boy oh boy, hello baby smooth skin! I went home and tried it out on myself just to make sure it’s not just a one-time-only-in-store thing. Yep, it works!
Of course, when I learn something new, I just have to share it with you too. π
What you’ll need:
- The Body Shop Spa Wisdom Africa Ximenia and Salt Scrub
- Any of the Beautifying Oil (she used the mango one on me. I already have the Olive one at home, so I used that instead)
- Exfoliating gloves (you can get them cheaply from the supermarket or pharmacy. Mine was from Chemist Warehouse)
What to do:
- Do a dry scrub in the body using the exfoliating gloves. Run the exfoliating gloves all over your body. Make sure your body is dry, not wet or damp.
- Apply a bit of the salt scrub on your body. You only need very little of the scrub at a time.
- Pour a bit of the Beautifying Oil over the areas where you’ve scrubbed and rub it in.
- Rinse the oil and scrubby bits off.
- You can either use a shower cream to wash again if you’re not keen on a bit of the oily residue on your skin (itβs actually not bad) or just dry off with a towel at this point.
Results:
Killer soft and smooth skin!
This can be done on a weekly basis or just before a special occasion. You don’t have to do this often because the Beautifying Oil does come in a small bottle and it’s costly to do this frequently.
If you already have the Beautifying Oil and a salt scrub of another brand, do give this recipe a go. I find that it works better with salt scrub compared to sugar scrub. I’ll also be trying this recipe out with another body oil like the Bio Oil. Will report back if it works just as well.
I couldn’t walk out of the store without getting anything since the lady was so nice to me (window shopperβs guilt, people) so I picked up the Ximenia and Salt Scrub. I tried this recipe a couple more times since then and I love how smooth my skin is, even the scaly bits on the legs are almost gone!
Do give this recipe a go and let me know what you think!
Ooo the african salt scrub from The Body Shop is a classic…It works really well. I always go back to it after trying other brands. I always think “wow” when you compare one scrubbed hand to the other unscrubbed one when they do the demo in the store – there is a marked difference in your skin texture and appearance. The addition of the beautifying oil is a step I’ve never tried – will do so! I love body scrubs and every weekend is “spa” time for me.

Oh most definitely. I first heard of the African Spa range over 10 years ago and it was their bestselling range. Not surprised if it still is.
Oooh I love me some DIY spa time too! π
Hi Tine! Wow! This was my first time knowing about this recipe. I seldom step into the body shop. I seldom exfoliate my body as well. Hmm..After your recommendation of this recipe, I’m thinking to give it a try. Thanks for the recipe again!
Body exfoliation is just important as face exfoliation so I highly recommend you get scrubbing now! π
Perhaps The Body Shop does better body products than face. I’ve tried their makeup line and skincare line, both were just so so. Maybe I should really give their body butter and scrub a go? If you are into lemon scent, the Body Shop Sweet Lemon Shower Gel is sooooo good!!! I would literally open up the cap and take a good sniff every shower. I love that scent so much, it makes me crave for some lemonade sooo bad!

Yeah, I agree with you. Their face products are just so so for me. Not a big fan of their makeup either (although I would like to try out their honeycomb bronzer). They’ve always been more well-known for their body care products methinks.
Oooh thanks for the recommendation! I love lemon scents (hello buttery lemon biscuits. Yum!) so I’ll definitely try the Sweet Lemon shower gel a sniff the next time I’m at the Body Shop π
i love their salt scrub, it’s such a huge tub that it’s like i can never finish it! the warm vanilla scent is very very soothing, and it’s quite the awesome me-time π
i like to use it before a special occasion, and it does leave my skin soft and nice, put on some body lotion and hello smooth skin!

That’s what I thought! You don’t need a lot of it at one go so it’ll last you quite some time. Definitely a good, special occasion product π
