I’ve seen a lot of Gatsby-inspired looks on beauty blogs and YouTube of the beautiful Daisy Buchanan (played by Carey Mulligan) but not many of Myrtle Wilson (played by Isla Fisher). Just for fun, I thought I’d do a inspired recreation of her look.
For the very first time in an FOTD, I actually used false eyelashes! I don’t have the long feathery eyelashes Isla Fisher has so falsies have to be used for this look. The left side looked a bit wonky but I think I got the right side done correctly. I’ll definitely need a lot more practice with falsies.
It’s not an exact recreation of Myrtle Williams in the poster but it’s what I intepreted the look to be. I’m not a fan of the thin brows that Isla Fisher sported in the poster so I kept my brows full and thick.
Makeup used for the look:
Face: Rimmel Match Perfection foundation, Guerlain Meteorites in Teint Rose
Eyes: Physicians Formula Super BB concealer, Urban Decay NAKED Basics eyeshadow in Venus, Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow in 505 Impressionist, Max Factor Clumps Defy mascara, Revlon Beyond Natural false eyelashes, Lord & Berry liquid eyeliner in In The Black, L’Oreal Color Riche Le Sourcil eyebrow pencil in Deep Brown
Cheeks: Dior Cheek Creme in 871 Bikini
Lips: Hourglass Femme Rouge in Raven
Nails: Dior Vernis in 858 Tie & Dye
Outfit:
Coat: MANGO Suit
Scarf: L’avion
Earrings: Made it myself
I had a lot of fun recreating this look. It allowed me to push out of my comfort zone with false eyelashes and I’ve forgotten how beautiful the red lippie by Hourglass is. I hope you’ve enjoyed it too. π
Have you watched The Great Gatsby? I can’t believe I haven’t even watched it yet!
Gorgeous lippy Tine & that blush looks so nice. Can you please do a tutorial on how to apply cream blushes? π
Aww thank you! And thanks for the idea for a post. I’ll write that down in my blogging notebook for post ideas π
Love this look- I saw the movie recently and loved the dramatic smudgy smokiness underneath the eyes sported by Myrtle and her friends.
Raven looks amazing on you!

Thanks Jen! I’ve only been seeing pictures of film stills and they’re gorgeous π
You look absolutely gorgeous π Yes, I have watched the movie and I enjoyed it very much. The movie made me ponder on how selfish Daisy Buchanan actually is. But I guess people can be reckless in love.
Wanted to ask you about Guerlain Meteorites in Teint Rose. I was testing it on my hand in Sephora yesterday and it had so much shimmer. Is the shimmer visible when you apply it on your face? Your face looks really luminous so I am guessing the shimmer does not make your look like a disco ball.
Thanks Victoria! I haven’t even read the book yet so I’m pretty clueless on how the story goes. Have to rectify that soon!
As for the Guerlain Meteorites, the shimmer is very subtle. When I apply it all over my skin, you can see the shimmer but it isn’t a lot. Did you test the Meteorites by rubbing each ball on your hand or swirl a brush over the balls and then apply on your hand? If it’s the latter, oh it will scream disco ball (which is why I didn’t think it would work for a long time) but if you swirl a fat fluffy brush over the balls, tap to remove the excess and then apply it on your skin, you’ll see the difference and it won’t be shimmer overload π
Aww you did very well! I love that lipstick but next time, a bit more duckface yes? π I’ve never read the book nor have I seen the movie (and I think likely will never) but the inspired looks coming out of it have been very lovely.

I did some duckface pictures which would suit the look more but I couldn’t put it up on the blog, I just couldn’t. π Can’t do duckface at all π
I love that you did a look inspired by Myrtle instead of Daisy π FYI, Daisy is played by Carey Mulligan (though she does look practically identical to Michelle Williams!)
OMG you’re right! Why did I think it was Michelle Williams?! It is Carey Mulligan! I’ve amended the post π
Glad to help π
PS. Hourglass Femme Rouge just seems so appropriate for Myrtle. Not just the colour of Raven, but the brand – it has such a vintage feel.
I agree! π
Oh, I love the lippie! it suits you so well…
Thanks Issa! π x
Gorgeous! Minus the false lashes, it would be a good look for a day at the office. That lip color is HOT! And I love the matching nails. So pretty.
I haven’t seen the movie; hubby’s not interested and I don’t really want to go by myself. I read the book in High School and found it very sad. It was a weird time in American history. I used to live in Buffalo, NY — which had its heyday in the 20’s (lots of glorious Art Deco architecture) and it always made me think of the Great Gatsby and the veneer of opulence…

Thanks Natasha. I’m really happy with this look too π
I love Art Deco designs; I’d love to see this architecture in person some day π
You look gorgeous! Love that lipstick shade, it really suits you. π

Thanks Angela. It’s my favourite thus far π
I love your interpretation – the poster is too dressy for my taste but your look works beautifully. Love a scarf or headband – it really brightens a simple outfit.
