The Fall of the Cherry Blossom Blush by Essence

I’ve said this many times and I’ll still say it again – beauty bloggers enable each other. Badly. I see something gorgeous a fellow beauty blogger writes about or posts pictures on Instagram, and I’m out the door the next instant to get the same item. It’s madness, I tell you. Madness!

Today’s blush is an enabled item by Emma. When she tweeted a picture of the limited edition blush by essence, I knew I had to have it too. Plus I have a thing for cherry blossoms so it doesn’t take a genius to know this is right up my alley. 😛

To be honest, I’d prefer the embossed flowers to be more detailed than just the silhouette. Imagine how much prettier it would be if you can see embossed petals and leaves, eh? Having said that, the silhouette of the flowers are still quite pretty.

Unfortunately, that’s the best I can say about the blush. It’s a blush duo of dark and light coral. Despite it looking quite pigmented on the compact, it’s actually very sheer on the skin. In fact, I had to brush on a lot of the blush for it to even slightly show on my skin.

It’s been a long time since a blush frustrated me so. If it was shimmery, I wouldn’t mind the lack of colour because I can use it as a highlighter. But this has a rather powdery and matte finish despite it looking rather frosty in the swatch. It just ended up looking bland and flat on my cheeks.

The 2 colours heavily swatched. You can barely see anything on the skin!

I brushed on about 6 layers of heavy-handed blush. Yep, nothing.

Sigh, it’s sad to say I’m disappointed with this blush. I expected at least more colour out of this one. If you have very fair skin, I suspect this would work much better on you than it did on me.

This is a limited edition blush ($5.95) by essence in their Cherry Blossom Girl range. If you’re into blushes and cherry blossoms too, do check it out at your local Priceline store but be warned that it might not show well on your skin unless you’re very fair.

Here’s a lesson to be learned, folks. Sometimes, cosmetics enabled by a friend doesn’t always work on you. It’s not the friend’s fault, of course. We just have different skin, that’s all. 🙂

Have you tried out this blush before? Did it work on you?

I didn’t get to try this as my local Priceline is SO far behind on Essence collections. I’m kind of glad I didn’t though… what a shame! x

I was so disappointed in this blush. I really was expecting more. Even if the texture is powdery, I wanted more pigment in the blush. I suspect this would show on very fair skin, sadly just not on mine.

  2. LeGeeque

I’m begining to love peach blushes. The 2 Archie’s girls by MAC that I got – TOTAL LOVE. They add a tiny hint of red flush to my cheeks 😀 I might check this out. 🙂

I think this will show on you. If you want it, you can have mine. No cooties 😛

  3. Marisa Anderson

This blush looks great on you. Really like the cool design that this blush has too.

Hahaha thanks! I’m surprised you could even see it on my face! 😛

Yes, it a very subtle color, but like you said it makes a nice highlighter. =)

WOW WOW WOW! not only does it look great on pan, but gosh, it looks so natural on you! I usually dislike blushes like these as they tend to look like “NOTHING” on cheeks, but this one gave a bit of oomph!

Hahaha okay I need to get my eyes checked ‘cos I can’t see it on my cheeks! But thank you for the lovely compliment sweets 🙂

at least this is not wallet breaking!

perhaps you are used to stronger colours hence you couldn’t “see” it, but like Nikki said, it did showed up on you and look really natural! or maybe… that’s just your natural flush and er… the essence blush emphasizes it?

I think so too. I’m so used to highly pigmented blushes, the kind where just one touch of the brush on the pan already yields a lot of colour, which is why this just didn’t work for me. It’s not that I can’t see the colour on my cheeks (in real life), it’s just so subtle I can barely see anything! Kinda like when I just started using blush over 10 years ago. Now I need me something that really packs a punch 🙂

Aw! I was actually looking into this. If you said it was good I would’ve went out to get it straight away since a new Essence collection is due to hit the stores soon. How sad that it’s not pigmented and that it’s matte/powdery! Meep.

Hahaha it might work on you, Tram, so I’d still suggest you to swipe the colour, swatch it, give it a test at Priceline before plonking your money down. It’s not a lot of money, but still, I wouldn’t recommend you getting it if it doesn’t show on your skin 🙂

Ok i clearly need my eyes tested because i cant see squat.
Pity, the pan looks really really cute.

Diddly squat, I tell ya. Oh well. Plenty more blushes out there in the sea of cheek colours 😛

  8. Michelle Beh

Cheers Tine!! It’s not very pigmented though the colours of the blush looked nice. I did not try this blush before. However I don’t think that the colours will stand out on my skin as well as I have yellow undertone skin.

    1. Tine

I too have yellow undertones but it’s just not pigmented enough to show. I reckon unless you have very fair skin, I don’t think it’s going to show much. ‘Tis a pity since it’s quite pretty on the compact.

  9. Rute

So sad, it is such a pretty blush in the pan… but Essence is really a hit and miss brand :\

Yeah that’s what I thought too. Some of the nail polish are okay, the eyeshadows not so much 🙁
