The Guerlain Meteorites Perles do Paradis is a new addition to my jars of Meteorites in my makeup collection. I did say that I wouldn’t get another one of ’em Guerlain Meteorites, right? Err, please strike that off the record and pretend I never did give that statement. At all. Ahem.
The Perles du Paradis is part of Guerlain’s Spring 2013 collection. My purveyor of fine goods, Paris B, helped purchased this for me (thanks Peebs!) from Malaysia because it costs an arm and a leg in Australia. I’m not going to go into the whole “why is everything so damn expensive in Australia” tirade again. You’re heard me complain often enough. 😛
This time, the Meteorites come with a pink faux fur puff, which is different from the boring sponges you get in the previous collections. Along with the pale pink jar, the packaging looks very pretty. Very girly, in fact.
As beautiful as the pale pink packaging is, I’m a tad disappointed it did not come in the usual metal tins the Meteorites come in. It’s cardboard packaging this time and to me, it just feels cheap for something so expensive. The cover opens from the bottom whereas the previous Meteorites tins open from the top. I almost dropped this a number of times because I keep forgetting that the cover goes all the way to the bottom as I just pick the jar up by holding the sides (the cover slowly slips off if you’re not careful).
AS you can see, the jar of the Paradis is bigger than the previous collections of Meteorites. Heck, even the balls are bigger. Bigger jar and bigger balls also mean a bigger price. The previous Meteorites were US$58 a tin whereas the Paradis is priced at US$70 a jar.
The Perles du Paradis is a mixture of cream, purple and pink with balls of silver in between. The cream, purple and pink give a pearlescent finish to the skin. The silver bits are the ones that are shimmery and boy, are they shimmery.
The consensus of reviews on the blogosphere on the Perles du Paradis is that it’s a lot more glittery than the previous Meteorites. I was quite apprehensive at first because I’m not a fan of glittery face powder and I was worried this might be too much on my skin. I didn’t want to look like a disco ball, especially since I already have a rather shiny T-zone.
It turns out, I didn’t have to worry at all. There were only 4 silver balls in the jar and if you shake it ever so gently before use, you get a good mixture of colours without just hitting the silver glitter. It’s true that this does give a higher shimmery finish in comparison to the regular Meteorites (not the limited edition ones) but it’s not over-the-top.
So, how does this differ to the other Meteorites? I’ll just compare it to the regular Teint Rose and the Perles du Dragon for this post. For the Teint Rose, you get a more subtle glow to the skin. The Perles du Dragon has a much warmer tone and creates a very delicate bronzing effect to the skin. As for the Perles du Paradis, it’s a lot more cool-toned and gives a brightening glow to the skin.
Do you need the Perles du Paradis? Nah. You never really *need* these limited edition pretties but they really are beautiful pieces of makeup to have. As with the rest of the Meteorites, the balls aren’t meant to be used individually so if you’re expecting a pigmented wash of colour on the skin, you’re going to be sorely disappointed. It’s the combination of all the colours that create the beautiful glow you get on the skin.
Some said that the Perles du Paradis was a miss by Guerlain because of the lack of pigment on the balls. It’s true because I couldn’t even swatch the individual balls for you (they wouldn’t show on the skin). Nevertheless, the combination of the powdered balls did give my skin the subtle, brightening glow I wanted, which is why I’ll say it’s all right in my books. I’m just hoping that the next collection of Meteorites goes back to the tin packaging, because the cardboard one just doesn’t scream luxe to me, as Guerlain is known to be.
Have you tried out the Perles du Paradis? Your thoughts? Yay or nay?
PS: I can’t remember the last time I wrote “balls” this much. 😛
This gave me a pinky face overall. My can only have 3 silver balls. And like you I almost dropped the bottom so many times!
I know, right? I’m so used to the previous tins that it’s so easy to forget that it opens from the bottom. It slips out quite easily too. Gah!
I have this! I was NOT supposed to pick this up when I bought the Sakura blush, but I think I got suckered into the puff and LE thingy and just… bought it.
I never counted my silver balls, but yes it is definitely more shimmery compared to Dragon, Emillio and Teint Rose. And I find it a little disastrous to wear it together with the Sakura blush, I feel like it’s shimmer overload! So it’s either one one the face!
and like House says, everybody lies 😛

Hahahahaha everybody lies! Especially when it comes to saying they’ll not buy anymore shoes, bags, blushes, kitchen sinks 😛
Oh yeah, can’t wear it with the Sakura blush at all. Too much shimmer! 😛
Lovely collection you have there 🙂 I have not tried this but these little balls have piqued an interest in me. I have oily skin but now I have managed the oil control pretty well by using Biore UV Perfect Face Milk. While I love to have the subtle glow and radiance. I worry that the glow might accentuate the acne scars and bumps…
Thanks Jennifer. The collection is growing 😛
The glow this one gives is subtle. It doesn’t sink into fine lines at all and definitely doesn’t emphasise scars and bumps. I recommend the original Meteorites, e.g. the Teint Rose. It’s the least shimmery and I think still does the best job for me 🙂
Till now I haven’t try anything from Guerlain yet. Those meteorites looked so tempted! Perhaps I should start to look through Guerlain’s products:)
No! You have to try something from Guerlain! They have such gorgeous makeup. Try one of their blushes or lippies. You will love them. 🙂
I’ve always wanted to get them but afraid that I do not know how to use it well and turn my face into a glitter ball or oily shine.
As for the packaging, I prefer paper as you can recycle it, as for tin – will just create more waste in the world. I always wonder about cosmetics brands effort in recycling especially it’s always plastic container / bottles.

I know what you mean. I thought the same before I fell into the pit of balls. Hah! I think I’m so funny at times (obviously not :P).
So far, the only Meteorites I have that’s really glittery is the limited edition Pucci one. I highly recommend the original Meteorites (like the one I have in Teint Rose). Very little shimmer yet still produces that gorgeous glow that don’t make you look like disco ball.
Fair comment on the packaging, PJ. I often think that brands should do away with the box packaging that comes with a product too. People just chuck them anyway and they’re such a waste.
