You know that very popular Facial Treatment Essence by SKII? The one deemed Holy Grail by lots of beauty bloggers and editors? The one that has a lot of women coveting for its hailed skincare benefits? It didn’t work on me. Not at all. In fact, the much cheaper Hada Labo Moisturising Lotion did a much better job than the Facial Treatment Essence ever did. I reckon it’s because of that that I don’t pay much attention to SKII products at all. And the fact that they do cost an arm and half a leg.
However, when I saw Val’s review on the Skin Signature Eye Cream, I must admit I was intrigued. I’ve been looking for a better eye cream for quite some time now. The ones I’ve been using are decent but not good enough. I decided to give SKII a go once more. So when I was at Changi Airport in November, I snapped one up to try. Duty free FTW, yo.
For an eye cream, this is quite rich. It’s a thick, ivory cream and one has to be careful to not use too much. I find that the slightest touch of a finger on the cream is already enough for both undereye areas. I use this on the orbital bone, very gently massaging the cream to the area.
The eye cream comes in a classic SKII red jar. It also comes with a tiny plastic spatula but since I’m the only one who uses it, I just use my fingers instead. Not the most hygienic way, I know, but after a while, I just got lazy with the tiny thing. π
It’s been 2 months since I started using the eye cream and I’m quite impressed at the results. I wasn’t expecting reduction of fine lines or even disappearance of wrinkles. Like I’ve mentioned many times before, nothing short of a miracle or surgery can do that. But what it does is that it keeps the undereye area well hydrated without the greasiness. I’ve noticed brightening of the area too, hence reducing the dark circles under the eyes.
This amount is more than enough for both undereye areas
With the area sufficiently “plumped” the next day, application of undereye highlighter or concealer is made easy. Previously, I found that my undereye highlighter tended to drag on the area and when I patted the makeup on, it didn’t blend very well. After using the Skin Signature Eye Cream, the same highlighter now works a treat on the delicate area. It’s now very blendable.
As the eye cream is very rich, I only use this at night. SKII recommends that you use this twice a day but since it’s very rich, I don’t want to risk millia seeds growing below my eyes. I still have a stubborn one under my left eye that I can’t get rid of.
I found another great use for the eye cream, and that is to apply it above the upper lip. From time to time, I get really heaty from dehydration and not drinking enough water. I don’t know how to explain “heatiness” to non-Asian readers so I’ll let this website do it instead. π
Anyway, my upper lip line would swell and it would get really painful. When the swelling has gone down, the upper lip line would harden into dry skin. For days to almost weeks I’d have a perpetual lip liner on my upper lip. It’s not a good look and it usually hurts like hell. I find that the eye cream softens the area without exacerbating it, keeping the lip line and the skin above it well hydrated and supple. I’ve tried this out with my regular moisturisers and none of them have worked to fix this issue. This eye cream does and with regular use, it prevents the swelling from starting on the area, even during my heaty periods.
It’s not a cheap eye cream to begin with. Heck, it’s SKII! But since I found not just one but two uses for it, the cost per use is reduced significantly. I bought this for around SG$110 (I think), and it retails for AU$145 in Australia. I’ve been using it for a couple of months and barely made a dent in the cream. It’s going to last me for at least 9-12 months from the looks of it, since I only need very, VERY little each time.
What I like about it: Keeps my undereye area well hydrated, reduces dark circles, also helps to keep my upper lip area moisturised
What I do not like about it: Nothing
Have you tried any eye creams by SKII before? What’s your go-to eye cream, the one that works fantastic for you?
Ouch, that is pricey. But kudos to you for finding more uses for it! I’d never heard the term “heaty” before but I know what you mean! π
It’s actually refreshing to see your honest opinion on the treatment essence. I don’t have anything against it at all, but its just interesting to see it doesn’t work for absolutely everyone.

Nope, the Treatment Essence definitely doesn’t work for everyone. It started off okay, the skin felt a bit softer at first and then remained the same. Heck if I’m to fork out a fortune for that bottle of yeasty goodness, I expect my skin to be like tofu! π
I’m completely with you on that Facial Treatment Essence. I mean everyone out there from top celebrities to random people rave about it, but I see nothing significant happened with my skin.

Me neither. I know it works for a lot of people but definitely not all. It’s a pity to have to buy such an expensive product only to realise it doesn’t work as well as you want to *looking at that white elephant of a Clarisonic on my shelf guiltily*
I use this exactly the same for my eyes and my around my lips area to not only moisturise my lips and it PREVENTS crackpot lips!!
I love it through and through and use them day and night (sometimes with heave hand and always with massaging action) with no millia issues whatsoever.
V xx
You too! Ahh great minds. I don’t use it at the bottom lip, but for the area above the top lip, this works swell. Sadly I daren’t try using too much of this lest I get millia. Better to be safe than have a sorry-ass bump below my eye I can’t get rid off π
This eye cream looks really interesting. After conversion that would be RM275, ouch! But I will be going to Changi late March and I was told that a lot of skin care and makeup products are cheaper there since it is duty free. LOL. Might consider this cream but if it is only to be used at night, it would be such a waste because it means that I need to get another cream for daytime. Thanks for the review π
Oh you’re going to love Changi Airport duty-free shopping! I was stuck at the airport for a number of hours in transit but I wasn’t bored at all as there were many shops for me to peruse π Do check out travel exclusives. They’re often only available duty-free and even though they come in 2s or 3s, each turns out to be a lot cheaper. Have fun! π
I’m lazy with spatulas too, esp for eye cream! I figure a dip of a clean finger every day should be fine :p But with larger jars, I’m more anal with the spatula, because there is so much more product involved. Glad that this eye cream works for you. Now you’ve got me interested even though I am not a fan of SKII in general. I love their lippies though!

I’m not really a fan of SKII either but I’m glad I found this eye cream. I saw the makeup in Japan (it’s not available here) but didn’t get any to try. What are their lippies like and how much are they? Worth the price? π
Hi Tine, I really like SKII lip stick – very moisturizing as it has this inner tube of balm within the lipstick itself. The colours are quite conservative but pretty. I got a rosy, my lips but better hue and I love it π

Drats. Should have bought one when I was there!
Oh! I never go to SKII sections as their products really caused a big hole in my wallet!! Hahaha!!! But recently I heard a lot of raves on this product and a lot of advertisement regarding this product as well. I don’t think that I will give it a try yet. π I do scared that it will caused milia seeds around my eyes as it is quite rich. I will hold it in my list first π
I saw an advertisement on TV when I was back in Malaysia on a deal SKII was doing on their Cellumination serum. Went to Parkson to check it out only to realise they don’t actually have that deal. Bah! Oh well, money saved on that and then spent on shoes! π
Thanks for this review. I’m looking for a new eye cream, and I have been curious of the SKII line (those ads with Cate Blanchette really intrigued me). But, the price has stopped me. I have very dry, red eyelids from a dry eye condition so I’m on the look out for something that’s soothing and won’t exacerbate the situation. Wish I could get a sample somehow!

I’ve actually never been to an SKII counter in Australia. The prices alone stopped me from even walking up to the products and try them out. Which is why I don’t know if SKII even gives out samples to try without having to purchase anything. I hope they do because it really is a lot of money to drop for just one product π

commonly associated with menopause… but not always eg: I’ve always been like this, so have my brothers. I drink about 3-4 litres of water a day to keep it in some sorta control otherwise the slightest change in environment or types food (spicy is a definite but sometimes can come from a slightest tang), social situations and mood can bring on a hot prickly sweat and my top lip stings.
I have been using SKII Signs eye cream for about a year, and I use it across my top lip! Very good stuff, maybe pricey but a little goes a long way lasts quite awhile… I call it an investment for years to come!!!
I agree with you. You only need so little each time. This jar is going to last me yonks. So cost/per use calculated over the year, it’s actually quite cheap! At least, that’s what I’ll tell myself when this finally runs out π
