I’ve tried, I truly have! 😛
Ahem. Back to the review.
The only skincare products I’ve tried by Shu Uemura are their cleansing oils. Other than the classic yellow one (not a fan), I really like their cleansing oils. When I was given the opportunity to try out their TSUYA Skin Youthful Radiance Generator (henceforth referred to as TSUYA Skin because the full name’s a mouthful), I was intrigued. The name Shu Uemura is synonymous with gorgeous false eyelashes, pretty makeup and great cleansing oils. Will the TSUYA Skin work too?
Description:
The cells in an ideal skin have the power to naturally protect and restore its structural components day after day. with age, the skin’s function for self-regeneration is subject to “power cut” causing skin structure depletion and cellular disorganization. A miracle molecule to reactivate* the skin’s “youth power switch”. Inspired from “secret” of Enju flower’s longevity & persistence, shu uemura research center selected Rhamnose, a high tech molecule able to reactivate the skin’s youth power switch and awaken self-regeneration in all fundamental levels of the skin. Switch on skin’s youth power for beautiful skin in just 7 days. Flawlessly even and smooth skin texture. soft as a petal, plumped, toned, ideally translucent glowing skin. the ideal skin preparation for a beautiful make up.

The long description aside, the TSUYA Skin is a serum that is used after cleansing, toning and before moisturising. The texture is a light, milky lotion. It has a pearlescent sheen but when it’s spread on the skin, the shimmer disappears. It comes in an opaque bottle and a dropper. That’s how I like my serums to come in and Shu Uemura has excelled in the packaging of the TSUYA Skin.
I’ve been using this serum for 3 months and am almost to the last few drops of the bottle. Did I notice any difference to my skin? To be honest, not much. There are no significant changes to the skin, although it does look slightly brighter. My skin also feels smoother. On certain days, I swear it does look quite radiant 😛 (hormones or the serum? Hmm …)
It’s not a hydrating serum so if you’re looking for something to give a boost of hydration for dry and dehydrated skin, this isn’t really for you. But if you’re looking for an all-round do-gooder serum that evens out the skin tone, smoothens the skin and gives it a good glow, this is a pretty decent serum to try out.
The only thing I’m not keen on, I have to say, is the fragrance. It has a floral fragrance that’s too strong for my liking. This is something you might want to consider if you’re not into scented skincare.
Having said that, I’m quite happy with the serum. I use this only in the evenings (a bit too sticky for me to use during the day). The results may be subtle but they’re there. Somehow my mother’s words rang in my head every time I used this serum. “Girl, at my age, as long as the product stops the skin from deteriorating, it means the product is working. My skin doesn’t have to look better, it just has to stop looking worse.”
True words, Ma 🙂
Shu Uemura TSUYA Skin Youthful Radiance Generator retails at AU$110 for 30ml and is available at Shu Uemura counters at David Jones.
What I like about it: Good packaging, gave me smoother and brighter skin (not significantly so)
What I do not like about it: Strong floral fragrance, pricey
Have you tried the TSUYA Skin before? Was it a yay or nay for you?
Ahhh so happy to read your review on this because I, a HUGE fan of Shu Uemura, didn’t get wow-ed by this either. But I liked the floral scent though!

Haha it’s good that you like the scent! It’s a nice one, but just a tad too strong for my liking. I read your review as well; glad to know I wasn’t the only one 😛
I do like Shu Uemura’s makeup line pretty much, but skincare, not so much.
I bought one of their whitening serums (purplish blue squeeze tube with Vitamin C), and it did nuts for me. Very pricey too! It was RM250 for something that didn’t work. I don’t think I’ll be trying Tsuya anytime soon, as I think I read from Xyling that it isn’t that awesome either?
i’ll just stick to their blushes, for now.

Believe it or not, I’ve never tried any Shu Uemura blushes. Two words: HOW CAN?!
Yeah, the serum didn’t wow her either. It’s not a bad serum actually. It’s just not that fantastic.
seriously? HOW CAN?? now now go get a nice Shu blush when it’s on sale/ DFS/ whenever it’s cheap! LOL.
they used to be my staples when I had a bit of money to splurge and had started on makeup not too long ago… i haven’t been using them much since trying out other brands! Time to rectify that!

There are no ugly women, only lazy ones, they say. Well, I’m the latter. I think my skin must hate me! Haha.

Hahaha I’m starting to get real lazy too, which is not good. Use sheet masks more often, then I can skip toner and serum >.<
I usually associate Shu Uemura with their cleansing oil, eye lash curler and fancy false lashes. Then came along this Tsuya serum which was tempting with the youthful radiance generator tagline. Thanks for sharing and though not much effect, your mum’s words are certainly true – preventive is already a good enough product 🙂
Hahaha I know, right? When Mum first told me many years ago, I disagreed, still insisting that if I don’t see any difference, then the product’s no good.
Well whaddyaknow, no deterioration is already a difference! 😛
I totally agree! Not a HUGE difference, and I’m not a big fan of the smell. I feel like it’s very…chemically processed…for some reason? Probably just a state of mind, but still! :p

Glad to know I’m not the only one! I agree, it does smell rather artificial. I think it’s just because it’s too strong. If the scent was a lot more subtle, then I think it would be just nice 🙂
I love what your mother said! 🙂
Mother knows best 😉
PS: Don’t tell her I said that. She’ll never let me forget it 😛
