I was just reading Xin’s review of the Laduree rose petals blush over the weekend and realised that I had one too! This is what happens when one has way too much makeup, especially blushes. *facepalm*
This has been a long coveted blush of mine ever since I saw pictures of it on the Internet at the start of the year. It’s just like the Japanese to come up with something so beautiful and pretty bloody unattainable on my side of the world. When Val did a shopping spree on cosmetics from Japan, I knew I had to add this in to my shopping cart. 😛
I originally bought the Ladurée pot that is supposed to hold the rose petals. All up, it came up to about $120, which made this the most expensive makeup item I own. It’s funny because I ended up not using the pot to hold the rose petals, but used it to hold my wedding band and watch instead. Months later, I sold the pot to someone who wanted it a lot more than I did 🙂
It’s just the rose petals in a plastic container for now. It’s not even a problem because the container of roses come in a pretty drawstring bag (in case you didn’t buy the pot that is sold separately). Thus it’s still very pretty without the pot.
The blush comes from the powder that coats each petal. I’m amazed at how detailed each rose petal is designed and shaped. It even has the tiny veins that real rose petals have. Each petal is quite hard but brittle. Thus a light hand is needed when handling them.
Having said that, the blush itself is quite sheer. You will need to swirl your brush on the petals more to get pick up the colour. It ends up a beautiful shade of pink on the cheeks.
Is this a must have? If you are a makeup collector, I’d say yes it is. It really is a beautiful piece of art. If you have enough cash to splash, do get the pot as well because it looks stunning holding the rose petals. If you’re just getting this for the blush, then it’s not necessary because the colour is highly dupeable (think Benefit’s Dandelion).
The rose petals retail at 3150 yen ($36.40). The pots are sold separately, each retailing at 7350 yen ($84.90). The retail stores are only available in Japan at the moment. However, this is available online at Imomoko.com for US$170 for both (to be honest, they’re selling it at cutthroat prices so if you do have a friend going to Japan or if you’re planning to go yourself, I highly recommend you buy it there).
I have my eyes set on the Holiday 2012 collection now. My wallet, of course, screams in protest 😛
yesterday i tried swatching them with finger but can’t get much color out. guess i will try with the brush another day. and i tried to pinch it with a little more strength…it’s actually not as fragile 😀 i am just going to use the blush from the plastic case, and one day i will display the beautiful pot in my glass cabinet..one day!

Yeah the blush is quite sheer. I expected a lot more pigment out of it since each petal is quite powdery. Still when you do get the blush out on your cheeks, it’s lovely, isn’t it? 🙂
Very pretty and surprisingly very sheer! I saw Xin’s recently and was terribly impressed by the detail on each rose petal. I mean, the veins! How many people think of including that? That said, I’m not sold on Laduree makeup. I still don’t get the macaroon-makeup connection and I guess I’m just not into pretty things 🙁

Hahaha no worries at all. This doesn’t appeal to all, that I’m sure. The details are amazing, isn’t it? Photographs alone don’t do it justice 😉
this is highly in my wish list for my trip next year! I couldn’t ask my sis to bring it back for me (she was in Japan earlier), as I know she will KILL me for buying something that expensive!
such prettiness this is…

Hehehe just use the petals from the plastic container! That’s what I’m doing 😉
I think this product looks incredibly nice in pictures. I don’t have it but I would buy it just for the beautiful packaging! (ok, I still think I won’t use it as much but it would look amazing on my vanity). It looks so fresh and innocent. Such beautiful petals, I could stare at this product the whole time.

It’s beautiful, isn’t it? It’s just one of those makeup items that are better to be used as a decorative ornament than something you’d actually use. I’m surprised I even used mine given that I’m usually hesitant in breaking into something that pretty 😛
This is definitely on my wishlist! So beautiful…
