Happy Wednesday, people!
Once every couple of months, I like to do an Ask Me Anything post. It’s when you and have a virtual cuppa together and chat just about anything.
Do you have any questions, anything about beauty or blogging? Are you having any issues with your blog but just don’t know where to start to fix the darn thing? Do share it with us. A problem shared is a problem halved. You never know, someone may have the answer for you. Plus any blogging-related questions will help me greatly in writing my Bloggie Wednesday posts.
Even if you don’t have any questions, do feel free to drop in and say hi. Tell me about the latest lipstick you purchased (I haven’t bought any in months. I kid you not. That must be remedied at once!). Tell me what you had for breakfast (mine was Milo. Who here loves Milo? *waves hand frantically*). Tell me what’s been annoying you lately (the warm weather + high humidity + hay fever = a very cranky Tine).
Ahh my order is finally here. One hot cuppa Milo. Come on over, I’m waiting for you! π
Char bor. Netaporter is giving out free shipping. Say money is of no concern, pull together an outfit for each of these events:
1. Weekend
2. Island holiday
3. Power meeting with the board
4. Black tie event
GO!
LeGeeque: Ah hah! I shall make this into a post. Thanks for the suggestion π
Hi Tine,
I’d just like to say that I love reading your blog. I’m new to blogging and I was wondering if you could please do more tips on photography. I use a point and shoot camera. Do I really need to invest in an expensive camera to get amazing photos? I try to use natural light whenever I can, but sometimes it’s difficult to wait for great weather. Could you please show how you set up for your photos.
Thank you xo
Aww thanks lovely. Appreciate the kind words π
I won’t deny that a DSLR camera can take really amazing pictures compared to point-and-shoots. But, having said that, point-and-shoots can take good pictures depending on how you use it. Most of my macro shots are taken with my point-and-shoot because it actually takes better close-up shots than my old DSLR.
Some tips:
– Natural light is always best. When it’s not possible, then utilise whatever light you have but try not to use the flash. If I find that I have to use flash for my images, then I’d rather wait the next day to take pictures because the flash creates very washed-out images that just aren’t good.
– Even though we say that natural light is good, try not to take pictures when it’s sunny (e.g. take product images out in your garden under direct sunlight), because it creates the same effect as your flash. Too much direct light = washed out images again. Overcast is best.
– Edit your photos after taking them. Many a time the pictures I take would be too dark and I’ll use Photoshop to give the images a lift. Try Photoscape (download it for free on the Internet) to edit your pictures.
– When using your camera to take close-up shots of yourself (e.g. macro shots of your eyes), do it in front of the mirror. Look at the LCD screen in the mirror. Press the button halfway to allow the camera to focus on where you want it to focus. For the eye, you’ll want it to focus on your eyelids (say you want to show how you did your makeup). Most cameras will display a green box on the LCD screen when you press the button halfway, which will show you where the focus will be. If it’s not focusing on your eye but your eyebrow, shift your position and press the button halfway again. Once you get the focus on your eye, then press all the way down. This method allows you to get clear focus on what you want to show. I’ve seen pictures on the Internet where the focus ended up on the nose when the blogger actually wanted to show her eye makeup π
Hope these help. Just holler if you have any more questions π
Thank you so much for replying and for these tips Tine, I’ll definitely try these out π xo

ohk yup me too want photography tips coz I am planning to get DSLR but confused with what to buy!!! a basic DSLR is good or shd i go for a medium DSLR version.
also, when we are blogging, is it necessary to stay in the niche or can one expand the blog beyond the focus. i know that actually depends on the blogger and readers and how much the blogger can do justice to the area in which she is heading. but, may be tips on that would be helpful π

Swati: Haha okay here goes:
1. A basic DSLR will come with the body kit and a standard lens. If you haven’t used a DSLR before, then everything that comes in the box would be a good start (e.g. Canon 60D). It’s only after you’re really familiar with the DSLR that you’d want to venture into different lenses for different purposes, and that’s when it’ll start to get expensive (often the lens can be as expensive or more expensive than the entire camera). So my advice is, if you really want to try out a DSLR, don’t bother with getting new lenses until you’ve exhausted the use of the basic kit π
2. I think there’s no problem to expand the blog beyond your niche to an extend. A lot of beauty bloggers I know have added lifestyle and fashion topics to their blogs. As long as a higher percentage of the blog is still beauty-related, I don’t see the problem of moving forward to something else. It breaks the monotony of the blog. Of course, best is not to stray too far from your niche, e.g. you start talking about computers or carpentry on a beauty blog. Apart from that, fashion, personal updates, etc … why not? π
I really don’t have anything to ask because I don’t know anything abut blogging, I just love reading them… I just wanna say enjoy your cup of Milo while I’m enjoying my cup of coffee, hihi ….
Hehehehe aww thanks Issa! *clink my cup of Milo with your glass of bubbly* π
Hi Tine! Sorry for not able to reply yesterday. Recently I bought the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial toner and the moisturizing cream. I found that I quite like the texture of it. Guess what! I did buy another one product and I’m deeply in love with it-the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate eye cream! It was so easily absorbed. I’m thinking to buy the brightening spot corrector. Can you give me some opinion on that? Thanks a lot!!
Michelle: Hahaha that’s great! The Kiehls MRC eye cream is a good one π I have the Brightening Spot Corrector but haven’t used it yet so I can’t really tell you if it’s good or not. I have read a lot of reviews on it though and so far, a very high percentage of the reviews have been positive ones. I’m not sure if Kiehls has samples of the brightening spot corrector (maybe not, because I don’t think they give out samples of serums). If they do, get a sample and see if it works for you? Sorry lovely, I’m no help in this because I haven’t used it before π
I just bought a new dslr!!! N I have to say it really makes a difference in the pictures I take! Best best investment ever~ I think it would be a good topic to share with other bloggers. π
Woohoo good on you, Silver! DSLRs are mighty addictive. In no time, you’ll want to get a new lens, and then another one, and before you know it, that’s a lot of money gone on lenses alone! π
