Ahh day spas. Kid you not, if I lived in one, I’d never ever leave the house. Worries? What worries? I’d have stress massaged right out of my bones.
For me, money saved up each month doesn’t go to beauty products, clothes or bags. Oh yes I hear you gasping hard there. It’s true. I save my money for at least one spa treatment a month. As it can be quite expensive to go for facials and massages in Australia, I tend to alternate each treatment per month. It gives me something to look forward to each month.
I’ve tried just about all kinds of spa treatments ever since I discovered “heaven” π But there are 5 that I keep going back to. If you’re thinking about trying out day spas, these are good options to consider.
1. Facials
Facials in day spas aren’t really the kind of facials you would expect at a beauty salon. Most day spas will not do blackhead extractions or use high-strength ingredients on your skin. But what you can expect is a good cleansing and more importantly, a great facial, neck and shoulder massage.

2. Body Massage
Back massages are my absolute favourite. Especially if they put hot stones and whatnots on me. When it comes to the legs, not so much because I’m incredibly ticklish. Touch my inner thighs and I’d jump off the massage table.
Even men go for a good wrap! π
3. Body Scrub and Wrap
You’ll have to be in disposable knickers for this one. The therapist will scrub you from neck to toes and then wrap you firmly in whatever it is they use to wrap you with. The wrap is sightly uncomfortable at first, but once it’s off; it’s like new skin comes up and says hello.

4. Hand Massage
This usually comes as part of a spa package, not so much on its own (unless you request for one). You can have a relaxing hand massage on one hand, while sipping Mai Tais on the other. Bliss.

5. Footrub
I used to be quite afraid of this because I have super ticklish feet, but once I got used to it, oh it’s good. Especially when they massage your feet with body lotion after a good scrub … oh mama!
Man, writing this post sure wasn’t easy, especially when I should very well be at a spa instead of in front of the damn computer. But really, if you can, do try to schedule a day a month for yourself to relax at a day spa. It’s something you can look forward to. I always say that the best person to treat yourself is you π
Have you been to a day spa? Which is your favourite? Do let me know because I’m game on trying something new!
I just tried full body message and foot treatment before:) I ll looking forward for a facial spa which I never try before:) it will be interesting right?
Michelle: Gasp! You’ve never tried a facial spa before? No! Go go make an appointment NOW! π
I have never in my life been for a facial or a body massage but I want to start doing them as it seems so relaxing and I’m aching from all the work and long days I’ve been doing lately.

Oh you should, Megs, especially with your work. So much travelling. You need heaps of pampering, my dear, and a good massage will have you floating out of the salon π
I love love love spa treatments, I really want to try body wrap/scrub as the idea of fresh skin sounds divine! I love the spa/beauty style treatment vouvhers that Groupon have, you save so much and have the chance to try spas that you might fall in love with. Win for all!

Emma: I tried a lot of beauty and spa treatments from group deals websites; in fact, there was a point where I bought at least 7 vouchers, which meant that I have at least 7 months of facials/massage to look forward to! Had to draw the line when Tim looked at the credit card bill. Ooops π
Ah spas…. just love. As a former spa therapist, working in a spa is just as fantastic as going to one. A long soak in a deep tub followed by a skin sparkling scrub & wrap all finished off with a full body (inc butt, seriously butt massage is the bomb) massage. Now thats what dreams are made of.
Oh & yes there is a front & a back to the disposable under ware> I once came in to find a client with them on their head. True story

Mel: Oooh you were a former spa therapist too? Dang, woman, is there anything you haven’t done? π
A butt massage, eh? I don’t think I’ve had one before. Oh hang on, I might have, in Bangkok, but can’t really remember. Should give that a go π
Disposable knickers on the head?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA OMG THAT IS GOLD!
Every year my mum and I try to get to a Day Spa for my birthday and get the works, I look forward to it ALL year!

Lizzi: That is awesome! Something to look forward to with your mum every year π I do that too, every time I go back to Malaysia to see my family again. My mum will book facials for us, I’ll book mani-pedis π
The Hepburn place in Daylesford you recommended was absolute bliss, can’t wait to go back there the next chance I get! For that matter, remind me to set you up for a Hammam session the next time you’re back in KL…very much like a Turkish bath and you come out GLOWING.
PS: When you mentioned ticklish, I’m suddenly reminded of your reaction to the fish spa and Chang’s massages in Bangkok… π

Beetrice: That is the one thing I haven’t tried yet, a hammam session. I’ve read a lot about it, but it’s crazy expensive here (I can do a whole spa package for at least 3 hours for the price of one bathing session). I recall ParisB blogging about one; is that the same one? If so, yes please! π
PS: That was a seriously painful session of fish, k? As in laugh until my sides hurt painful π
Yeah, I think that’s the one. Quite affordable and damn nice – we go when you’re back, can haul Geek along as well! π
