Experience:
- I’m a regular shopper at Chadstone Shopping Centre as it’s near where I live. I’ve seen the Oscar Oscar salon many times, but have never tried their hair services.
- Jacie (of You’ve Got Nail, now defunct) speaks very highly of the salon, and especially of her two hair ninjas, Jacky and Nathan. As I badly needed a haircut back then, I thought what the heck, let’s give the salon a go. There are a few hair stylists at Oscar Oscar, but I decided to go with Jacky (incidentally, being the head stylist, his services are also the most expensive).
- Looking back, it’s almost been 2 years since I’ve been seeing him for my haircuts. When I first saw him, I also had my hair coloured (unfortunately, I couldn’t remember the name of the colourist). I’m not sure if some of you remembered this, but 2 years ago, I had an unfortunate colour experiment with my hair when it was dyed with bright red streaks. Ugh, what a horrid look it was. The colourist gave me a soft balayage with I adored. No more cheap red streaks!
- A few months ago, I decided to change my hair colour a little as it was looking a little tired. This time, I had Nathan (head colourist) do the magic. I had no idea what he did, but he mentioned something about purple, and how he added the colour to my hair in waves. He had me at purple.
- Till today, I’m still getting compliments from strangers on my purple hair 😛
Hello purple streaks!
Products Used:
- Oscar Oscar uses AVEDA hair products on the floor.
- The salon is now also selling Kerastase and REDKEN hair products.
Verdict:
- I couldn’t be happier with Jacky and Nathan. The service is absolutely impeccable.
- Every time I have my hair cut, it’s like catching up with an old friend. Jacky and I have discussed about salted eggs, cabbage, salmon and our desire for Birkins. It’s crazy and hilarious!
- The hair services aren’t cheap, especially if you go with Jacky and Nathan.
- However, they give me great hair every single time and for that, they’re worth it. As my hair is long, it doesn’t need very regular maintenance, so I only see them once every 2-3 months.
- A few snips here, a colour or two there, and I step out of the salon feeling and looking like a million bucks.

Was this a complimentary service?: Nope. All services were paid with my own coin.
Nice hairstyle and nice colour as well Tine~~!!
Aww thanks Michelle! 🙂
Looks gorgeous! How much did it cost you all up?
Tessa: It’s definitely not cheap as I used the services of the master stylists. All up I think it came up to *in a much smaller voice* … $270. That’s why I only see them once every 2-3 months. At least that way, I can justify the price 😛
Nice purple highlights there, Tine! I love the color change isn’t too shocking, but enough to stand out, look classic.. yet stylish 🙂 nice job from the hair stylist. I think it was worth every penny! And when your hair is curled, it looks like purple ombre hair 🙂
Helz: Thanks lovely. I’ve lost count of the number of compliments I received from random strangers on my hair colour 😛 It’s not over-the-top at all. Love love love it!
Your hair looks stunning, love the purple waves! Now that I’m in Melbourne I’ll have to check out the Chadstone shops since I’ve never been and this salon sounds amazing!

Megs: Oh you have to check them out! When you do come over to Chadstone, lemme know yeah? It’s my turf, hence coffee is a must! 😀
Wolf whistle!! The purple looks stunning, and the curl, and the length… Major hair envy happening – I’m in the ungrateful growing stage and I have big hair, so I look like Mafalda most of the time 😛

Hahaha aww thanks Sabine! I didn’t even realised my hair was that long! The curls are all the stylist’s work; there’s no way I can recreate that 😛
Drats, just have to wait out the growing stages. I used to have very short hair, but big hair, so growing it out was a real pain.
Gorgeous hair! I, too, live near Chadstone – and I think I might give Oscar Oscar a try 🙂 Their prices are steep though – about what I was paying at my old hairdressers’ up north… I’m kind of thinking about trying someone cheap to save some bucks, but it’s hard to find “good” and “cheap” in the same breath. Although I did hear some rave reviews about a Korean place in Chinatown – but I’m not sure if it’s worth the time to travel up there just to save a bit of money :S
(I know that in the end I’ll wind up paying for convenience and a more reliable outcome! Haha – and like you, I go only once every three months or so 😉 )
Yeah the price is quite steep if you’re going for the head stylist and colourist. The junior stylists are not so expensive and they’re pretty good too.
If you’re thinking of getting your hair done in the city, I recommend SUI. It’s a Korean salon and they’re good too. I used to go to them regularly before I discovered Oscar Oscar. SUI is the kind you can go once a month; Oscar Oscar is the 3 months once sorta thing 😛
