Jurlique Calendula Cream: Proof That Skincare Does Not Need To Only Go On The Face

Sometimes, skincare products do not need to just go on the face. As long as there’s skin which needs it, that’s where the product should go.

Last week, I had a bit of an incident with my Braun epilator. Through no fault of the epilator, I epilated my arms and legs without prepping my skin first. Usually I would epilate every 2-3 weeks, depending on how quickly the fuzz on my arms and legs regrow.

I’ve been having a very lazy 4 months and I *ahem* haven’t been grooming my arm and leg fuzz much. My skin was dry, and I forgot to slather some lotion on it first before epilating. The process was surprisingly painful (I usually feel no pain epilating), and my skin was left very red and raw. I still have a faint red strip on my legs where the epilator yanked my hair off πŸ™

The next day was hell on legs. My arms recovered fairly quickly, but everytime I take a shower, my legs would sting like a mother, and the redness would come back twofold. I needed something to soothe my legs before putting my pajamas on because if I don’t, no matter how soft my PJs are, it will chafe.

Thank heavens for Jurlique’s Calendula Cream.

Jurlique Calendula Cream

What is calendula? It’s a plant. The flower is used to make medicine. Calendula flower is used to prevent muscle spasms, start menstrual periods, and reduce fever. It is also used for treating sore throat and mouth, menstrual cramps, cancer, and stomach and duodenal ulcers. Calendula is applied to the skin to reduce pain and swelling (inflammation) and to treat poorly healing wounds and leg ulcers. It is also applied to the skin (used topically) for nosebleeds, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, inflammation of the rectum (proctitis), and inflammation of the lining of the eyelid (conjunctivitis). Calendula should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Jurlique Calendula Cream Ingredients

To be honest, I was sent a tube of the calendula cream for review months ago, and I, erm, forgot that I had it. It was unopened, still sealed when I took out the tube out of the box. I hurriedly pierced the seal with the cap, and slathered a very generous amount on my legs.

I could almost hear my legs heave a huge sigh of relief. Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh…

Jurlique Calendula Cream

Oh it was good. It was so good. The cream soothed my skin and I had no problems putting my PJs on. All I had to do for the next few days was apply a generous amount of the calendula cream on my legs and arms right after my shower.

Thankfully, my skin cleared up soon after the epilating episode. The calendula cream, originally meant as a moisturiser for the face, did wonders on my red and raw skin.

The yellow comforting cream is very rich, thus the reason I have not used this on my face. My legs needed it much more than my face. Now that my skin has cleared up, I’m saving this tube of precious (and let’s face it, not cheap at all) cream in case I get any other adverse skin reaction (face, arms, legs, whichever part of the body decides to misbehave) instead of continuing to use it as a daily moisturiser. You never know when that might happen again, and it’s good to know I have something ready to calm and soothe the skin.

Jurlique Calendula Cream retails at AU$45 for 40ml, AU$85 for 125ml and is available at Jurlique counters at MYER, selected pharmacies nationwide and Adore Beauty.

What I like about it: Rich and comforting, calmed the redness and eased the pain on my raw skin

What I do not like about it: It may be too rich for those with oily/combination skin who want to use this on their face.

Have you used a calendula cream before? How did you like it?

Love how you can repurpose face creams for the body! Wonder if this will do wonders for my scaly legs.

Dom: Hmm I’m not sure about the legs though. It’s rich, but I think there are better creams for the body out there (cheaper too!). I particularly like Cetaphil’s Moisturising Cream for my scaly legs πŸ˜›

Can I repurpose hand cream for skin moisturizer? πŸ˜› My skin is the dry type… and sensitive when it’s dry.

Grace: That would work, especially if you have sensitive skin. Have you tried Avene’s hand cream? Avene’s very good for dry and sensitive skin πŸ™‚

I’m very intrigued by this! I use Melvita Calendula Oil and it’s my daily (As well as nightly) skincare staple for my sensitive skin! It’s really a saviour. I tend to use moosturisers that aren’t suitable for my face on my body too, though, as my body is not as sensitive as my face haha πŸ˜›

Stephanie: I’m highly intrigued about Melvita, since so many Malaysian bloggers have raved about it. When I’m back in Malaysia, must make sure I get my hands on some of the products, and the calendula oil you mentioned πŸ™‚

Tegan: Oh I know! What an idiot I was for running the epilator on my skin willy nilly, without even prepping it first. I now have tiny scabs on my left leg from the incident πŸ™

  5. Beauty Box

Yes I have used one from a homeopathic doctor who gave me a tube for eczema…it was very good! While the Jurlique is prob very nice, I think there are way cheaper versions out there.

Beauty Box: Yeah I’m sure there are cheaper alternatives too. I’m just glad I had this handy when I stupidly epilated my skin without prepping. Yeeoouucchh!

  6. Niva

Yes!! I use this on my face! But I have very dry skin.. it was an absolute life saver when my skin was at it’s most angry and your skin really does breathe a sigh of relief when you have it on! I now use it every day. Was thinking of blogging about it but I’m too lazy haha.. love this post πŸ™‚

Niva: That’s great Niva. Glad it works for you. Don’t think it will work on my combo face though, but my legs and arms sure love it πŸ™‚
