Happy Hump Day, my lovelies!
I like to do an Ask Me Anything segment once every couple of months, so here it is again. If you have any questions about anything, beauty or blogging related, feel free to shoot me a few Qs. If you feel like a chat, come in for a virtual cuppa and Iβll have one with you. Itβs your call.
Did you stumble upon anything new and awesome lately? Are you facing some blogging issues you can’t seem to work around? Did you suddenly find yourself a 40% discount holder for Priceline and need to share that fabulous find with someone else? (You and me. We are going to be best of friends). Need to find out that shade of lipstick you saw in a picture but have no idea what it is? Share with us!
If the questions are blogging related, they will help me tremendously in writing my Bloggie Wednesdays posts.
I have my cup of tea ready. Over to you! π
Hello!
I just needed to vent. That a PR sent me an email thinking I’m in Malaysia, asking for a favour for me to do something without even doing any research on where I’m based. I think that’s just downright rude and although I hear things about how bloggers are creating a bad name for themselves, PRs as this is even worse because they could jolly well be representing a massive conglomerate.
Sekian, terima kasih.

LeGeeque: Unfortunately heaps of PRs do this. They cast the net, send emails to as many bloggers as possible with the hopes that some will bite and spread the information for them. Many do not read the blogs first to even find out where the bloggers are based. It depends entirely on the blogger on whether he/she wants to use that information or not.
Most of my PR emails come from the US. It’s frustrating when there’s something that really interests me, and when I start a conversation going on via email, they tell me that since I’m not based in the US, they cannot send me the product to try (but guess what, I can still help them spread the word for free. YAY!). For the Malaysian ones, if the emails are polite, I reply and let them know that I’m based in Australia and that they’re looking at the wrong person. If the emails aren’t directed to me (just a general one), I just ignore and delete.
Now, all I do is just read and delete. Most I just delete. Don’t even bother with them anymore.
CHUP! I got this too and actually, she wasn’t even PR! I never did respond. Its not a subject I care to talk about anyway!

Hmm I wonder if it’s you guys are talking about the same email I received too … π
Hello Tine!
It’s a rainy Wednesday here, and I am down with sore throat, no thanks to the soya milk + yau char kwai dinner i had yesterday. And today is boss birthday, KFC for lunch. I think tomorrow is a MC day for me.
Meh, feeling so lousy now. Don’t even feel like walking or doing anything. And I hate seeing the doc. On a brighter side, I get to sleep in such lovely weather, to recuperate. LOL.
By the way, can I ask if you have this weird moment of possible blog post flying all over your head just before you go to sleep, but you get no inspiration of writing it when you are fully awake?

Hi Plue! Aww that sucks. Why are delicious food always so bad for us? Right, lots of water and rest for you, young lady! π
Oh most definitely! I get weird ideas like that often. Never when I’m actually on the computer wanting to write something, but always when I’m away from it (e.g. when I’m in the loo, when I’m eating, when I’m about to fall asleep, etc). Usually what I do is that I either write them down very roughly on my phone or better yet, record myself saying those ideas, and then decide what I want to do with them the next day. I may not write them properly the next day, but at least put them on the shelf for when I do want to blog about them some day π
Hey Tine, I do have a blogging related question for you and wondering if you can help out – what can I do about a sudden drop in blog traffic for apparently no reason? I was doing pretty well traffic-wise and haven’t stopped posting regularly (i.e. almost daily) or changed anything but suddenly there’s this problem and I can’t figure out what’s happening. It’s been more than a week now….
Anonymous: Hmm…how much of a drop in traffic are you experiencing? 50%? If you get almost no visitors at all, then it could be that your blog is down and you aren’t aware of it. I had that once, when for some reason I could access my blog, but no one else could. My traffic dropped down to 1-2 a day (those numbers would be from me only). Do check out if your website is down at http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com.
Another possible reason is that your Google Analytics code is either out-of-date or not working (assuming you’re using GA). Do double check the code and also where it’s placed.
Those are just a couple of reasons I can think of off the top of my head. Do check back in if those do not work. Good luck! π
Butting in, Anon π If you get substantial traffic from the Google search engine, it might be worth noting that Google has recently been changing their algorithm which has affected the traffic on many blogs and websites. You can find more info by looking up Google Panda and Penguin. Hope that helps!

Hello Tine,
I’m Andrea and I have a question for you.
When you first started blogging were you quite savvy with all things technical and computer/internet related or did you learn as you go? Did you have moments that you were pulling you hair out?!!
Thankyou
Oops! I mean your hair!
Hi Andrea, thanks for your question. I studied engineering back in the day, and one of the elective subjects was computing. Absolutely loved it. At work, I’d be doing coding as well, so yes I am, if you would like to put it, tech savvy.
When it comes to the blog, to be honest, a lot of it came from experience than actually studying the darn thing. When I say experience, it means the hair pulling moments when e.g. I broke the website, accidentally deleted the whole thing and having to rebuild, getting stumped on server issues like high CPU usage (and having to deal with tech support), etc. It’s a learning curve all right, and believe you me, every time I do something new to the blog, I end up breaking something and having to fix it can be frustrating.
But when things finally work, the feeling of immense satisfaction is amazing π
Thanks Tine,
No wonder your blog looks amazing!
Aww thanks! π
Hi,
I’m still searching for the perfect eye cream, you know, the one that reduces dark circles, combat lines and unpack those bags. Are you any closer to finding one?
On a different note, how does one get the opportunity to chat with you on a Bloggie Wednesday?
Love your blog…it’s the only one subscribe to….
Hi Noor, nice to see you again! I recently starting using an eye cream by Uriage (French brand). No luck with the lines, of course, but I find that it does help with the baggies. It’s Uriage AquaPRECIS Eye Contour Care. At the moment, it’s only available at very limited pharmacies in Australia and I’m afraid I don’t know where to get them online yet. I’ll be doing a review on it soon, and will try to get stockist information.
You can chat with me at any time during any Bloggie Wednesdays! In fact, I don’t mind random questions on any blog posts either. Very happy that you’re subscribed to my blog. Really hope it helps π
two questions (yeah I know i’m a few days late…)
1. morroccan oil..worth the hype? got some as a gift with purchase and thought i’d wait until i’d had a hair cut before starting but then some random googling suggests it’s over rated and full of silicone? and can it be used on skin or just hair?
2. i get heaps of traffic to my blog but rarely get comments. I ask lots of questions too. any thoughts?
susan recently posted..I can’t wait!
Susan: Apologies for the late reply. This comment got lost in my email somewhere >.< 1) Not really. Not to me anyway. Initially I thought it worked, but after a few months, I didn't really feel the difference in my hair anymore. Plus the oil is usually also loaded with silicones and that can really weigh your hair down if you don't use it sparingly. Some say you can use it on the skin, but it's actually more for the hair. 2) I guess it really depends on your readers. I find that sometimes, a lot of them are lurkers. They come for the posts but somehow just don't leave comments. As long as you're getting the traffic and keeping the questions going, they're bound to answer one some time π
