I first heard about Bioderma’s Crealine H20 on one of Lisa Eldridge’s Youtube videos. As you know, I absolutely adore the lady and the amazing work she does. I stumbled upon her work and her videos when Kahani blogged about discovering this very talented makeup artist. She used this product called Bioderma, which looks like water in a fat mineral water bottle. Fascinating!
I’ve been on the hunt for this elusive makeup remover in Australia ever since. No luck then because it just wasn’t available in Australia. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to buy this online just yet because all of the US-based online stores that do stock this only sell them in bulk, in at least 500ml bottles. What if it doesn’t work for me? I didn’t want to commit to such a large bottle if it does not work.
Lady luck smiled upon me when I was invited to an intimate brunch by the Bioderma rep in Australia as an introduction to the brand. Finally, it’s going to be available here! I was kindly given a 250ml bottle to try out. It was as though a cloud has lifted. I finally know what the hype on this Bioderma Crealine H20 is all about. And by George, I love it.
Description:
The 1st gentle daily cleansing and makeup removing water for very sensitive to intolerant skin, skin prone to redness.
Cleanses impurities and removes makeup thanks to the power of its micelles. Respects skin balance.
Soothes the skin thanks to the calming and decongesting effect of the cucumber. Relives immediately and lastingly sensations of overheating, tightness and discomfort.
Guarantees high cutaneous and ocular tolerance. Non-rinse, soap-free, fragrance-free, alcohol-free, paraben-free. Physiological pH, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic.Ingredients:
Water, PEG-6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) fruit extract, Mannitol, Xylitol, Rhamnose, Fructooligosaccharides, Propolene Gylcol, Disodium EDTA, Cetrimonium Bromide
This really does look like water in a bottle. I pour the makeup remover into 2 cotton pads until they are about 70% soaked, and then put them over my eyes. Just like how Lisa Eldridge does it. Liquid eyeliner and waterproof mascara take a little longer to remove, and usually another cotton pad is needed to fully remove everything.
Next I would use another two cotton pads with the Crealine H20 to remove my foundation. This is a lot easier to remove. It leaves the skin feeling mighty refreshed and clean.
Here’s what I really love about this miracle water – it does not sting the eyes at all. It’s so gentle that I can be putting the cotton pads with the makeup remover on my eyes, when I still have contact lenses on, and I wouldn’t feel even a hint of a sting on my eyes. Many a time I have to use makeup remover on a cotton swab to remove eyeliner residue on my waterline, and even with gentle makeup removers, this action still stings the eyes. I did not experience any discomfort when using a cotton swab with the Crealine H20 on the waterline.
Only one cotton pad was used to remove all these – waterproof mascara and eyeliners
The way to use the Bioderma Crealine H20 is not to rub the makeup off, but to press a soaked cotton pad on the areas and gently press and massage the area. Leave it on for at least 5 minutes if you can, and then very gently, coax the makeup off with the cotton pad. No rubbing is required, which is vital for the delicate skin around the eyes.
Want to see something even better? Let’s say you have ball-point pen marks on your skin (as we sometimes do, when we need to quickly write a phone number on our palm). The Crealine H20 removes the pen marks just like that *snap*. I kid you not! It’s good enough to remove tough pen marks (only for ball-point pens though; I’ve tried it with inky gel pens, and they don’t work :P), yet so gentle on sensitive skin. It’s a contradiction that both baffle and fascinate me.
Will I purchase this once the current bottle is done? Oh, no doubt about it. In fact, I’m already planning on getting a second bottle just to stock up. If you have not tried the Bioderma Crealine H20 before, I highly recommend that you do. There’s a reason this is so loved by makeup artists and celebrities, and now I know why. Why, a bottle of Crealine H20 is sold every 8 seconds in the world!
Bioderma is currently stocked in a few pharmacies in Victoria and New South Wales. Do check out Bioderma Australia’s Facebook page for a list of stockists, or email contact@cosmetifrance.com to receive an updated list of stockists. In a few weeks, you should be able to head on to the Cosmetiques de France website (it’s a Melbourne-based company and also the official distributor of Bioderma in Australia), where they will be selling Bioderma products online. I shall update you when the website is live.
Bioderma Crealine H20 retails at AU$39.95 for 250ml. At the moment, I don’t think Bioderma Australia will be stocking the 500ml or 1-litre bottles, but I really hope they will in future because it will be more cost-effective. It’s not cheap, but it might be something worth checking out if you have very dry and/or sensitive skin, or if you have problems finding a good eye makeup remover that do not sting your eyes.
What I like about it: Very gentle makeup remover, refreshes the skin after use, suitable for very dry and sensitive skin, removes ball-point pen marks on skin
What I do not like about it: Does not remove ball-point pen marks on clothes. Damn.
I got a 500ml bottle from HK and it’s a lot cheaper there. I do use it as a makeup remover but I would still cleanse my face after. It doesn’t remove tough eye makeup very well but for most non-waterproof stuff, it works all right. I like that Bioderma doesn’t leave a sticky film behind unlike a few of the other micellar waters I’ve tried before. Overall, it is a good product but not something I’d use everyday as I still prefer my regular oil / cream makeup removers.

Lyn: So far, this is the only micellar water makeup remover I’ve tried. Would love to try more out there if I can. Before this I’ve only been using the bi-facil makeup removers. I like them, but so far the ones I’ve used sting my eyes when I try to remove eyeliner from my waterline >.<
Interesting, Tine. I’ve been using the Bioderma cleanser off and on for a while but haven’t had any firm thoughts on it. I like it best to prep my skin after I’ve been out in the evening. I sometimes don’t feel like washing my face again so I use this once over and then proceed to skincare. But I find it impossible to remove liner and mascara, and at best, its good for just light face makeup. I wouldn’t replace my cleansing oils and makeup removers just yet. But I like this for the convenience and how gentle it is on my skin and how soft my skin feels after that 🙂

Paris B: This doesn’t replace my double-cleansing at all. In fact, with this, I’m triple-cleansing. Obsessed much? 😛
Aww it doesn’t remove liner and mascara for you? That sucks! So far it does for me, thank goodness. I like that removal of liner on waterline doesn’t make me want to gouge my eyeballs out, like I do with other makeup removers. Big plus for me there 🙂
Haha, I first heard about this last year when I was in HK with Kahani hitting up the Bonjour stores. She pounced on a 250ml bottle on offer to try. 😛
I just lugged back a 500ml bottle from HK last month. Been waiting for your review since Kahani mentioned it could be a hit or miss depending on your skin type. Imma gonna try it out soon! 😀

Rinnah: Hahaha I’m sure she did! Oooh you bought the 500ml one? I’d so love one. Bioderma Australia is starting out with the 250ml one. Testing the market, I suppose. I really do hope they bring out the 500ml one. Will definitely be cheaper per ml, cos the 250ml one isn’t for its price.
Never seen this brand in my entire life but it looks promising! When you said it works for dry and sensitive skin, you made me want the product! 🙂
Nikki: Do give this a go if you can. I’m so glad I finally got my mitts on it after wanting one for so long 🙂
I have heard nothing but fabulous reviews on this products for months and months now, but to no avail i haven’t been able to get my mitts on it. This post has just (again as all of your posts on anything do) moved it to the “hurry up and get it now’ list. Thanks lovely.

Madam M: This will not be available at Pricelines, but a few independent pharmacies in the city. Do check them out if you can. This has reached Holy Grail status for me in just 2 applications 😛
I’ve been hearing a lot about this type of makeup removers, the micellar type. Here in Europe we have at least two more brands that make similar products and I’ve been testing them out. You know what? Buying a makeup remover I liked used to be a nightmare and now I know what I really like: it’s these micellar waters. You’re absolutely right, they’re great!
Micky: Oooh what brand would those other micellar water makeup removers be? I’d love to check them out (or at least see what they’re like on Google :P). Now that I’ve used this, I’m definitely keen on knowing about micellar-types more 🙂
I’m not sure what brands are available where you live but I got amazing results with La Roche Posay Physiologic Micellar Solution. Vichy’s Micellar Solution isn’t bad either. I hear RoC makes one too, as does Garnier but I’m afraid I can’t speak for those as I haven’t tried them (yet!)

Hey! Sorry to be re-replying such a long time after your post! Did you know Sephora has a micellar cleanser as well? And it’s pretty affordable on my neck of the woods!
Hi Micky, no worries! If you do have access to Sephora, do check out micellar cleansers from Caudalie (Cleansing Water). I’ve not personally tried it out though, but I have tried out other products from the brand and I do like them. Another one would be Lancome’s EAU FRAîCHE DOUCEUR Micellar Cleansing Water Face, Eyes, Lips (this is rather pricey though). I’m not sure if Sasa.com ships to Portugal, but if it does, then you can definitely get the Bioderma Crealine H20 there 🙂
I think it’s an excellent water based makeup remover though it is v expensive outside of France. If it were cheaper, I would keep using it. But there are Japanese alternatives, e.g Bifesta Cleansing Express, which has about the same concept – oil free, watery, no parabens, mineral oil, fragrance…and they are cheaper too.
Beauty Box: Oooh thanks for the recommendation! I wonder if the Bifesta one will be available at Sasa. Never mind, I’ll check it out now 🙂
I love this cleanser!! I live in Perth, where there are no stockists but I was recently in Melbourne so I made it my mission to hunt it down. I’m so glad I did and I love it, I can’t wait for it to become more readily available in Aus.
Great review xx

I’ve been waiting so long to get my hands on this! Finally it’s available here!! *excited* Thanks for the notification, Tine 🙂
Charlotte: My pleasure, Charlotte! I’ve been waiting so long too. Glad to be able to share the good news 🙂
i think sasa stock this brand!
Sherly: Nooo really? I’m checking it out pronto! Thanks for the heads up 🙂
I have this and it’s great! and yes… Triple cleansing here too :p

Idaira: Hahahaha, good to be obsessed about a clean face 😀
I bought mine today. I used it right away when I got home. My make up got removed easily, no need to rinse my face after a stressful day. Love it!
Frances: Good stuff, right? 🙂
Hmm, might get Bea to mule this back for me. I’m a sucker for water cleansers as my first step for double cleansing. I’ve been using the Mandom/Bifesta one for yonks now and I love them to bits. I’m also very lazy at using oil cleansers because I don’t want to bend down in the sink and wash the oil away. Ma-fan. :p With water cleansers, it’s just swipe, swipe, swipe, hop into shower, wash face and body, and then et voila! Done!
dom recently posted..Review: Botani Olive Skin Serum
Dom: Another Bifesta user! Haven’t heard that brand before but another reader commented about this brand too. I really have to check it out! What I normally do with an oil cleanser is I do it right before I take a shower. So apply oil cleanser, massage, hop into shower, wash off, and use another cleanser 😛
I haven’t tried micellaire water myself yet, but I’ve heard a lot of reviews from girls who were using it that Haruhada Cleansing Water is very similar to Bioderma, plus it’s cheaper and available on sasa. I am too lazy to scout for things if they are hard to find, so I am planning to try haruhada next time 🙂
Kate: Ooooh really? I’m so checking out Sasa now for that Haruhada cleansing water! How did I miss this when I was in Malaysia? *facepalm*
I bought a 500 mL bottle of Haruhada Cleansing Water when I was in HK and had no regrets. 🙂

You should try out sasa.com – stocks 500ml at a substantially cheaper price, plus they always have discounts & free shipping to Australia.

Thanks for the suggestion, MC. That’s where I plan to restock next. Even with the shipping fees, it’s still cheaper than getting it here.
I have extremely dehydrated sensitive combination skin. I have tried maaaannnyyyy cleansers. I ended my search when I found the Made from Earth Green Tea Cleanser – it does not dry out your skin. And it DOES REMOVE WATERPROOF MAKEUP. Your face will thank you for it. Most people do not realise how important this first step is in caring for your skin. Get it wrong here and you won’t benefit properly from the rest.
