If I had a dollar each time I succumbed to a bad beauty habit of mine, well, I’d be a millionaire by now. All the things you read in glossies, in beauty blogs, advice from experts, etc, all the “do not do this” and “do not do that“, chances are I’ve done them all and still am doing. I may have also advised you the same, and yet I do them too. Tsk tsk. Yes, I still call myself a beauty blogger.
Oh yes, I have some bad beauty habits. Most were developed from young, which made them very difficult to shake off. So, in the interest of full disclosure because that’s the type of blogger I am (ahem!), here they are. Be warned, some are quite disgusting π
- Popping blackheads in front of the mirror. I can’t think of a more satisfied feeling than seeing a big piece of hard yellow substance popping out of the blackheads. It’s even better if it splats on the mirror. Result!
- Splitting split ends further. Oooh this is a bad one. I have dry and coarse hair, and heaps of split ends. Sometimes when I’m anxious about something, like meeting a deadline, I check my hair for split ends. Sometimes I snip the ends off. Most of the time, I hold one side of the split end, pull and split the hair further. It’s terrible, but damn, it’s satisfying.
- Rubbing my eyes. This is my worst one. I know I shouldn’t do it. I’m very careful when it comes to removing eye makeup, taking extra care not to tug at the delicate skin. However, when I’m angry or upset at something, I tend to rub my eyes. Β Hard. Hence the terribly unsightly fine lines under the eyes. It’s a constant battle I’m up against, and I’m very ashamed of it.
- Instead of snipping hangnail off my nails with a pair of cuticle scissors, I bite it off. It spreads and bleeds and hurts like a son of a biscuit.
- Picking at my spots, especially when they begin to scab. Bugger those itchy hands.
I’m sure there are plenty more, but these are the ones I could think of at the moment. They are bad enough as it is, and I bet you are horrified at how someone who blogs about beauty, bangs on about how we shouldn’t pick at our spots and rub our eyes could do exactly the same.
Gah, I’m so ashamed. If only those bad habits don’t give me tremendous satisfaction; I’d be more than happy to get rid of them. Hmm do you reckon a session or two of hypotherapy would help?
What about you? Do you have any dark, secret beauty habit, something you shouldn’t do but can’t help doing because they feel just so incredibly good? Make me feel a little better about mine and spill the beans!
I rub my eyes all the time! It’s so satisfying. And everytime I do it, it makes me think of how mean I’m being to my skin. I also enjoy peeling my nails, and picking at pimples (on the odd occasion I have one). My name is Chelsea and I’m a bad beauty blogger.

Chelsea: Hello Chelsea! π It’s so bad for us, isn’t it? All these bad habits. And yet we do them because they feel so good. We’re human after all (that’s my excuse for everything and I’m sticking with it!) π
OMG, I can’t believe my eyes. I think I am pretty good I don’t do ANY of those things you listed!! BAD BLOGGER!!!
Ponikuta: Oh come on, I know you’ve got something up your sleeve somewhere, some secret bad habit you don’t want people to know about. It may not be what I listed π
BAHAHAHAHHA!!
I used to pop my pimple/blackheads but now I use Nexcare to suck it out instead. I seriously can’t think of what I do that is bad.
Cleanse my make up brushes every month and spray clean it everyday after use.
I don’t touch my face during the day, don’t sleep with makeup on.
Use heat protectant when I heat style my hair.
Wear sunglasses when I step out during the day to protect my eyes.
Never bite my nails or when they chip I remove them immediately.
Use hand cream every single time my hands touches water.
Shit, I am anal about beauty like that…. lol

Okay, go away now. GO GO GO GO! π
Rub my eyes!! That’s something I always do. I also preach sunscreen but am lazy about it myself… ah hypocrite…… XD

Celeste: Another eye rubber! Sigh, we’re terrible, aren’t we? π
Hmm..Tine! I’m glad to say, we do not have the SAME bad habits! hahahah I am very particular in NOT popping my pimples or rub my eyes! the bad habit that I could think of is “Scratching” my allergies which ended up me having “ugly marks” at random areas! I am too lazy to apply medicine ! hehehe
Nikki: You are way too disciplined, Nikki! Although I do also share the same problem with you, on that bit about over-scratching. Yikes!
blackheads are my bane – absolutely obsessed with squeezing those seeds out, and when they’re huge they leave a small hole behind *ahhhh* (ok ok, gross I know!) and if I don’t squeeze them out, here comes the pore pack!
there are so many more..but I shall refrain, lest I launch into a long novel-worthy essay. *runs away*

Beetrice: Ooooh I get that oh-so-satisfied feeling when the big hard thingy come out of the pore and leaves a tiny hole. I know I shouldn’t, but daaaaaang π
Hah! I found a solution for “blackheads squeezing” obsession – I squeeze my husband’s out!
π
He swears that his nose now is actually smaller compare to “pre-marriage” nose.
Shelpen: Okay, seriously, GENIUS ON AISLE 2! What a very clever idea to drive that obsession to! I love it. I shall express this idea to my husband tonight π
haha. Yes, I have my bad habits.
I am really careful with my face and hair and hands. But when it comes to legs… =( If I get a mosquito bite, or a scar from a fall, etc, I would scratch the scar.
Yes, and that’s kind of why my top hit blog post is about me documenting my use of a scar healing gel cream. LOL. Really ironic. Not sure to take pride in it or to feel ashamed of such a bad habit. =PPPPP

Jyoan: Oh my, me too! I had that same problem when I was a child. My father would be very cross with me every time I scratched my legs after mosquito bites. He calls them “10 cents, 20 cents” on my legs, depending on the size. In fact, it came a time when I actually had to hand money over to him. The larger scabs cost 20 cents, smaller ones 10 cents and 5 cents.
You’d think that that would stop me from doing it now. NOPE. Sigh.
I touch my face during the day all the bloomin’ time! I lean on them when I’m reading and sadly that is all I do all day (or write!) and so it doesn’t help my already horrible skin! I don’t pop blackheads though, I’d be too scared of the pain! Oh and I’m lazy with washing my brushes! There. Sigh. I feel better now π

PS: Totally guilty on that face-touching thing. Especially my oily nose >.<
I’m guilty of rubbing my eyes. I try to hold it off, but when I finally give in to the urge & run my eyes, it is SO SATISFYING! π I also pick on hang nails & spots π Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

Picking my spots!! I’m also really trying to stop touching my face at all!
Kimberley: What is it about spots on our face that we just can’t keep our hands off ’em, eh? π
Yep guilty of picking spots when I have them π and I rub my eyes…..
Raylene: Sigh, why do we do this to ourselves? π
Let’s see… Picking on spots, check. Rubbing eyes, check. Popping blackheads, check. Oh and lazy with sunscreen. GAH!
Lynne: Other than the thing with sunscreen (I’m a bit OCD with that one :P), well, check, check and check! π
even I am an eye rubber and I crack my knuckles and pick on my skin!!! and, splitting my hairs is again the worst of the lot….I try to control it but to no avail under stress!!!
gosh, what bad beauty bloggers π

aaahhh, I also rub my eyes whenever I’m stressed! aaarrggghhhh! I also do most of those bad habits on your list π I’m only human π
Issa: Of course we are only human! And we will stick to that reason like glue π
Girls…seriously…you should go to therapy uh! how can you do these ugly things…I mean…to yourself π I have solutions girls…as shelpen said….squeeze husbandβs blackheads out..instead of your is such a great idea :p …when I’m nervous or my dear allergies want me to rub my eyes…I call my sweet bf and I pinch his round full cheeks π or I pull his hair muahahahaha and yes! this really relaxes me…I’m not sure about him tough…
Idaira recently posted..KONJAC PINK FRENCH CLAY SPONGE REVIEW [ENG]
Idaira: Sigh Idaira, what can I say, they are terrible habits cultivated from young that are so difficult to get rid off. I’ve asked my husband if I can squeeze his blackheads and pimples just so I can stop with mine. The look on his face was priceless. It was a cross between “are you freaking kidding me” and “get away from me you witch!” π
LoL I’m a beauty blogger just like you but unfortunately, I also have all those bad habits. My worst one is probably rubbing my eyes and not washing off my makeup at night when I’m super-duper tired! haha
Beautytoast: Why is eye-rubbing so satisfying? Really, why? I must do a bit of Googling to find out. And also how the heck I can stop doing it. Chilli on the hands maybe? π
I’m an eye rubber and hangnail puller π I can’t think of a better way to describe the type of pain it causes than ‘son of a biscuit’, it’s that terrible! And then the skin swells up, it’s so disgusting… At least I’m not alone!
