Relaxing with My Favourite Facial Sheet Masks

I’m a big fan of facial sheet masks. For a lazy bugger like me, I find them more convenient and sometimes more effective than cream masks that I have to wash off after a few minutes. Plus it’s a great way to relax at the end of the day, with a cold sheet mask on my face and reading a book or a magazine on the iPad.

Whenever I’m in Malaysia, I always stock up on facial sheet masks as they’re much cheaper than getting them in Australia. Problem is, I also tend to stock one mask too many and end up with a bag-ful of them πŸ˜›

My Stash of Facial Sheet Masks

I’ve tried heaps of brands of facial sheet masks, but these are the ones I always go back to. The effect I aim for is refreshed, deeply hydrated, smooth and boing-boing skin, which all of these masks deliver. I like to use 2 sheets a week.

Favourite Facial Sheet Masks

My Beauty Diary Sheet Masks

My Beauty Diary – a very popular Taiwanese brand, famous for their wide variety of masks. I’ve tried at least 8 different types, but my favourite is still the Collagen Firming mask. What I like about My Beauty Diary masks are that the sheets are not too thin, and they are heavily packed with serum. Very hydrating stuff. Available on eBay and Sasa.com

BeautyMate Sheet Masks

BeautyMate – this brand was recommended by Val. The sheets are slightly bigger and thinner than My Beauty Diary’s, and to be honest, it does sometimes tingle the skin when the sheet mask is on. I would have given it many points off for that, if not for the fact that my skin feels and looks amazing after application, and all through the night to the next morning. Available on Sasa.com

SkinVitals Q-Lift

SkinVitals – this was a gem I stumbled upon at Priceline 3 years ago. At that time, I have yet to discover My Beauty Diary and BeautyMate masks. I love all the masks from SkinVitals, especially the Q-Lift. Boing-boing skin guaranteed, feels great on skin, no stinging on the skin. I like keeping these in the fridge, and especially enjoy using them in the summer. Available at Priceline.

SKII Facial Treatment Mask

SKII Facial Treatment Masks – The mother of all facial sheet masks. These came highly recommended by my mum. She reckons the results of each mask is equivalent to a facial. I thought she was exaggerating until I tried one on. The scent is typical of their Facial Treatment Essence; it smells like yeast so it’s not exactly very pleasant. The results, on the other hand, were very good. My skin does not only feel refreshed, it’s plump, very boing-boing, radiant, and the results are visible all through the next day. They’re very expensive though (AU$28 a piece. Yikes!), so I only leave this for very special occasions. Each sachet also contains a lot of leftover serum, which I pour into a tiny jar to be used for the next couple of days. For such an expensive product, I’m not wasting a single drop! πŸ˜›

There you go, my favourite sheet masks to relax to. Tim enjoys using facial sheet masks too, although I don’t think it’s for the results, but for the cool, relaxing sensation it leaves on the skin. And no, he does not get to use my prized SKII. Ahem πŸ˜›

Xin: I love MBD masks. Yeah, they’re definitely not the cheapest around. I didn’t buy any Skinfood facial sheet masks when I was back in Malaysia, only an eyemask to try. Should have bought at least one πŸ˜›

I’ve actually never tried sheet masks before. Yep – baulk! But bought one from Priceline the other day. Can’t remember the brand off the top of my head but am dying to try it out. So, are sheet masks much better than the normal cream/gel masks?

Norlin: NOOOOO! You haven’t tried one before? You should! They’re really relaxing, and you don’t have to wash anything off πŸ˜› Not all sheet masks are better than cream/gel masks, but I think most give similar results (this does not apply to clay masks for oily skin though. For that, you’ll still need the wash-off mask).
Do give the Priceline one a go. I know a lot of people rave about the ones from The Face Shop, but those contain quite a lot of alcohol and they’re more expensive than the ones from SkinVitals. Have fun! πŸ™‚

I swear by Beautymate acne mask (green packet) whenever I get breakouts. I don’t get any tingling sensation from their other mask though, but do you think it’s a good thing? It’s very potent that’s why it stings?

Ponikuta: I don’t really know why it tingles. It doesn’t sting bad, just a slight tingle that I don’t get with the other masks. The green mask is the only BeautyMate I haven’t tried πŸ˜›

SkinVitals was on clearance of RM1 per sheet just before CNY! I regretted for buying just a box. MBD was on clearance of RM28 per box of 10 seets. Also just bought a box πŸ™

Fiona: RM1 a sheet?! Holy batman!!

I LOVE sheet masks. I’d use them everyday if I can be bothered. Yes, you have a habit of buying too much masks and that’s when I get to inherit them from you! πŸ˜€ I love MBD one you gave me and I adore SKII. I stock up whenever I can. Will give Skin Vitals another go. And, you’re right, it’s so relaxing with a glass of wine and the iPad

LeGeeque: I heard it’s not that good to have sheet masks on everyday though. Might burn your face off or something. Hahahah! I love having one on, but because I’m so short-sighted, I have to have the iPad really close to my eyes or else I wouldn’t be able to see anything. What a sight, me in a mask holding the device so close to face πŸ˜›

because of you, now I’m getting hooked on MBD, not to mention the SKII masks…*eeps* but nevermind, you’ve got more coming soon (and they’re on sale too! *yay*) πŸ˜€

Beetrice: Haha really? You get much easier access to MBD masks than I do! πŸ˜› I’ve been saving the SKII masks so much that I’ve only started using them ONE YEAR after I purchased them πŸ˜›

  7. Megan

I love collagen sheet masks myself although I haven’t tried that many so far. I normally get mine from the Face Shop but they are unfortunately a little pricey so I buy them as a treat for myself every now and again.

Megs: It kills me how expensive The Face Shop masks are in Australia. In Malaysia, after conversion, they cost about 2 bucks per mask πŸ™ To be honest, I’m not a fan of The Face Shop masks though. They contain alcohol and the serum doesn’t stay on the skin long (which, I assume, is due to the alcohol). Do give the SkinVitals one a go. They’re cheaper (if you buy in a box, especially when Priceline does their discounts), and I think better for the skin πŸ™‚

      1. Megan

Thanks Tine I’ll have to try out the Skinvitals ones, I had seem them at Priceline before but hadn’t really heard much about them so was a but hestitant to buy some.

I haven’t use this kind of facial mask yet. I’m using a natural way for my face. A mashed banana with oatmeal and olive oil. But I love to try this one too!

Yasmine27: I don’t think I’ve ever had a natural mask. Ever! I really should give it a go. Your recipe sounds good. Worst case if it doesn’t work for my skin, it’s, erm, good enough to eat? πŸ˜›

  9. Tina

Wow, I thought I have a lot of masks! You have sooo many! I got ONE sample of the SK2 mask and am saving it for a special occasion. For now, I’ve just been testing cheaper ones: http://www.ourwonderlust.com/ourwonderlust/asian-facial-masks.html
I talk about the ones I like and the ones not worth my time!

Tina: I bought the SKII mask over 2 years ago and most are still sitting in my fridge unused. Mostly because I can’t bring myself to use it; it was so expensive. Silly right? πŸ˜› I’m going to get more Korean ones when I’m in Malaysia, especially the ones from Tony Moly. Have heard a lot of good things about the brand πŸ™‚

  10. Marlene

    Hi Tine,
I’ve just recently started using face mask sheets and now I’m crazy addicted haha. I noticed you have a wide variety of different mask sheets and from different brands. My boyfriend purchased me mask sheets from Skinfood from Korea, but he got me different types eg avocado, sea vegetable, snow tea, black raspberry etc which all have different purposes. And now mum has purchased some more from another brand from Vietnam, so I was just wondering whether if there is an harm in using different ones every week/ twice a week, or should I just stick to the same brand and type/ flavour until I finish and then move onto another one? I would much rather change it up every week but I didn’t want my skin to go out of wack with the constant change in chemicals put into my skin.

    1. Tine

Welcome to the Addicted to Facial Sheet Masks Club! πŸ™‚

Nah, I don’t think there’s any problem using different masks every week, twice a week, etc. I use mine almost every other day (or at least 2-3 times a week) and they’re always different ones. If possible, use the ones without alcohol if you’re intending to use them more often. But go ahead and use different ones. At least, I did (still am doing), and there are no adverse effect on my skin.

      1. Marlene

Thanks for your swift reply πŸ™‚ Just another question, do you think its good for the skin to use a variety of mask types ie sheets, clay, gel etc or should we just stick to the one?

        1. Tine

I think that as long as the mask is suitable for your skin (e.g. clay mask for oily/combination skin and not dry skin, etc), there shouldn’t be any problem in using a variety of masks. I do it. E.g today I’ll be using a sheet mask, a few days later a clay mask, a few days after that a gel mask, and so on. Bear in mind, though, that while I do experience a bit of sensitivity to the skin from time to time, I don’t have sensitive skin most of the time so using different masks and all that don’t normally have adverse effects on my skin.

If you do have sensitive skin, I would suggest to slowly introduce different sorts of masks to the skin. By process of elimination, you’ll know what works and what doesn’t πŸ™‚
