So. Instagram. It’s almost a must-have app for anyone who has an iPhone. When I first got an iPhone, I downloaded the app, but didn’t use it until about a year later. At that time, I really didn’t the see what the fuss was all about, because if I’m looking for filters, there are heaps of photography apps out there which could do a much better job. I decided that I’d try it out in 2012, and boy, I was hooked!
I think it’s more of the social media aspect to Instagram that is so popular compared to the tricks you can do with the photos. I like the interaction between Instagrammers. I’m on Twitter most of the time, but once in a while, I like to hop over to Instagram and check out what other people have posted. Plus it’s incredible how creative people can be when it comes to taking pictures with their phones.
Every now and then, I think it’s also nice to take a break from all these fancypants filters and use the original picture instead. If taken in the right time and light, it could look better than injecting filters on the pictures. For filter-free pictures, do use the hashtag #nofilter.Β
If you see the blog’s sidebar, you’ll notice that I’ve added my pictures added on Instagram as well. It’s a peek into my life and what I get up to every day π The WordPress plugin I’m using is Instapress, and I’m liking it so far.
I’ve also joined FatMumSlim’s photography challenge and that is to take a picture daily using Instagram. I like that there’s a different theme every day. If you’re on Instagram, I highly recommend you try it out as well. Oh, and find me! My username is sweetcontemplation. If you’re on Instagram, do let me know your username in the comments and I’ll check you out as well.
See you on Instagram! π

This is one of the times I get I-Phone envy. I love my Android but still feel like I’m missing out on a lot of great apps π

Yes yes… I agree! π

Tina: It sucks that it’s not available on Android phones. It’s a bit one-sighted that it’s only for iPhones because there are a lot more phones out there that use Android.
I admit, I love to look at Instagram pictures quite a lot – they are really nice to look at for sure. But yes, if it’s just adding filters to photos, there are quite a bunch of other apps to go for, but Instagram seems to have made the fame! π
If I had an iphone I would definitely download this app right away.
Ohh… I have been thinking to get exact that MBMJ bangle too! What are the oods! :p

Jess: Oh there are heaps of apps better than Instagram. I think it’s more of the fact that Instagram is free and is a social media app that makes it so popular than it just being an image filter tool.
Hahahah get the bangle! It’s gorgeous. Just in case you do, the turnlock doesn’t work. It’s only there for show. You have to lift the bottom of the turnlock to open the clasp. I had no idea how to open it, and spent ages trying to pry the turnlock. I was *this* close to contacting Shopbop on whether they sent me a lemon until I finally figured it out π
Ok I’m going to stick my neck out here and say that I dislike Instagram. Well not because I’m not on an iPhone and thus have no access to this program, but mainly because when people share photos on Twitter using Instagram, it usually does not show up in the timeline. I have to manually click through to the website to see, and I usually don’t bother. So, when someone solely uses Instagram I tend not to bother checking out their photos at all, unless I’m on the desktop. Hootsuite will allow you to view the photo in-program so I do. Otherwise, I don’t. Also, I think sometimes people over filter and use Instagram as an excuse for taking bad photos (not that yours are bad, just generally speaking). I think I’m just picky LOL π

Paris B: I thought exactly the same as you do up to early January this year. Installed the app beginning of last year when I got the iPhone, but didn’t like it enough to use it. Deleted the app and then only redownloaded a few months ago. I think it’s only a hit amongst iPhone users, since it’s not available on other platforms (stupid move of Instagram, if you ask me). Now I’m hooked π
Reading your comment only reminded me that Instagram pictures don’t automatically show as thumbnails on Twitter feeds! Since I’ve been using Echofon for so long (we get thumbnails for Twitpic, yFrog, Instagram and many popular image platforms), I auto-magically assumed everyone would be able to view it. My bad π
Yeah I do agree, many a time, people tend to overuse the filters. Instagram’s filters are, in my opinion, mediocre. There are heaps of apps that do a much better job. I think it’s more of its social media aspect that makes it popular than anything else π
I like your side bar!
Can’t say i am a fan of instagram, have seen a tonne of photos with the filter effect and as old fashioned as i am, i actually prefer the original photos without fancy effects anyday :p

Xin: Haha I know what you mean. Many months ago, I was complaining the same thing. So boring, everyone’s photos are filtered. I still think the same. Once in a while filter, okay la π
I am not a fan of instagram but….I will used them for their effect. I didn’t quite like the idea that if i wanna use the effect i need to upload them online. (privacy matters :p)

Cynthia: Ahh I know what you mean. Don’t use Instagram for this. If you’re using an iPhone, try Hipstamatic, Camera+ or Pixlromatic. You can add effects to your photos and have them saved to your image library without having to upload them online first π
I’ve been using Instagram off and on (recently on again!), but really depends on the kind of effects I want – the only perk is that I can post the pic to twitter and facebook simultaneously without extra effort. π
Btw, love the sidebar and YES to taking part in #febphotoaday…definitely fun to participate in!

Beetrice: I know, right? I like that I can post the pictures to Twitter and FB simultaneously too. Better yet, I like that I get to choose if I want to upload them to either social media sites or not π
The #febphotoaday thing is fun, right? It’s interesting to see people’s interpretation of the daily themes.
I downloaded Instagram but deleted it after a while as I got hooked onto Hipstamatic instead! =) Your #febphotoaday project sounds like so much fun!

Sukie: I use Hipstamatic too! Don’t know why though, I find my pictures with Hipstamatic a bit too dark. I reckon it’s just me though.
Have you tried Pixlromatic and Camera+? These are my favourite photo apps π
Hi Tine!! I have just downloaded app and my username is raylenebarton! Am following you too…. π
Raylene: I’ve added you! π
