Beat ‘Em Scars with Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil

After my breast lump removal surgery in April, I was left with a gnarly-looking C-shaped scar on the areola. The breast surgeon did an excellent job in stitching and making it look as tiny as possible, but I was still adamant in getting rid of that scar as soon as possible. At the very least, I wanted it to fade quickly.

I was using Bio Oil for a couple of weeks after the dressing was removed. It was then when Palmer’s Australia contacted me on whether I was keen on trialing their Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil. Since it was known to improve the appearance of scars, I gladly said yes.

Palmer Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil

Description:
An advanced multi-purpose skin perfecting oil that can be used all over the body, including the face. This preservative-free, lightweight formula contains an exclusive blend of key ingredients to help improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks, dry, damaged or ageing skin, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles. Skin looks and feels instantly soft and smooth with this unique non-greasy, non-staining formula. Also ideal when used as a bath oil for a deep moisturising treatment.

Palmer Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil Ingredients

As the name implies, it is an oil. A very lightweight oil, and it dries fairly quickly on the skin. It contains a fragrance of rosehips, which is subtle and quite pleasant.

I originally used this together with the Bio Oil, applying this on the scar diligently on a daily basis. After a month, I decided to only stick to the Therapy Oil. I’ve been using this for 4 months now, and my scar has faded significantly. Obviously I’m not going to show you a picture of my boob; suffice to say, the scar is now a very thin, pink line which is barely noticeable anymore.

This oil is also meant to be used to even out skin tone and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, since my purpose for using this oil is solely to help the scar fade as quickly as possible, I cannot vouch for its other benefits. But for reducing my angry scar to a whisper, I give this two very enthusiastic thumbs up.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil retails at AU$9.99 for 60ml and is available at major supermarkets and pharmacies nationwide.

What I like about it: The scar on my boob has faded significantly. That is more than good enough for me.

What I do not like about it: Nothing

i wonder if this would work for my old scar, a 15 year old scar to be exact. πŸ™

Xin: It will not remove the scar, nothing short of surgery can do that. But it can slowly fade it out to a bare blemish, I think. It depends on how big your scar is. I reckon, for something that has been there for so long now, it might not give you the results you want. Still, doesn’t hurt to give it a try πŸ™‚
What sort of scar is it, if you don’t mind sharing?

it is a scar on knee, was a bump, but has flattened a little over the years, still, not much redness anymore but can see its a bump.

        1. Tine

Xin: I remember those type of scars. I had a big one on my knee (scraped it while running for the loo, of all things. Tsk tsk), but it faded after many years.

I believe the “bump” is known as a keloid scar. My boob scar had keloids around it as well, but I attacked it promptly with the oil. Sadly, I’m not sure if it would still work on an old scar. I’d still say, give it a try πŸ™‚

ah you right, it is a keloid scar. i used to scrap it so often when it was new and high, and i was not used to it, tsk tsk. thanks for the advice! since this oil is relatively cheap, why not right? πŸ˜€

i have keloids too, around my chest, doc said body over produce collagen, tot it was a good thing, apparently not lol
tried many creams n oils..i hear somewhere that steroid can reduce the scar but it got to be continuous use arghh no way

I’d do anything to help my keloids diminish completely!
I did get some steroid jabs and some have flattened significantly but I’d prefer a less painful experience!

I wonder if it can help me – stretchmarks on my tummy are really bad. I was a HUGE pregnant lady – twice. And unfortunately, I’m not blessed with a petite body or super elastic skin. LOL! I shall hunt this down – wonder if it’s available here?

Lily: I did a bit of checking, the Therapy Oil is available in Malaysia, although I’m not sure where. Try asking them on their Facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/PALMERSMALAYSIA?sk=app_2309869772 πŸ™‚

Sounds good! I wonder if my sinuses might take to this oil (I couldn’t stand Palmer’s Olive Butter Formula)? I’d like to fade the marks and uneven skin tone on my legs – battle wounds from my ongoing fight with eczema…

Rinnah: Haha for me, that would be the Cocoa Butter formula that I cannot stand. This one specifically states that it contains rosehip fragrance, and it really does smell of roses, which is nice.
Try this out on your legs. Eczema oftens leaves skin very dry, and this should help restore hydration as well. For double whammy, use with Bio Oil πŸ˜›

hmm..I wonder if it’s available in SG or MY…will go on the hunt! πŸ˜›

Beetrice: I Googled (whatever did we do without it before? Ah yes, there was Yahoo :P). It is available in Singapore. Try any of these pharmacies? http://www.palmers.com.sg/index.php/retailers.html

  5. LeGeeque

I’d like to actually use this on a scar on my arm where I swiped it against the iron. It has faded quite a fair bit with the use of Vitamin E oil but I’m curious to see if the Cocoa Butter will be better.

    1. Tine

LeGeeque: I can pass some to you to try if you want. I’d normally dip a cotton swab into the oil and then dab on the area. This bottle will last me ages!

  6. Issa

i can’t stand the smell of cocoa butter formula lotion. i hope this does not smell the same and i hope this oil is already available down here. i wanna try this too πŸ™‚

    1. Tine

Issa: I think it’s available worldwide now. Do check it out at your local pharmacy. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have that strong cocoa butter scent πŸ™‚

      1. Issa

        thanks Tine! πŸ™‚

I bought a bottle of this when I was still pregnant but didnt get to use it because I was wary of the content for my unborn baby back then πŸ˜€ Now that the lil munchkin is born I plan to use this oil now, see if it lessens my stretch marks …will keep you posted if it does lessen it. I did use my Bio Oil tho while I was pregnant ..doesn’t do much for me so I went back to my Cocoa Butter

I have skin asthma. It’a a family history. I got these really old and dark scars all over my body. They look like big dark freckles. They are born out of skin asthma and melasma. These scars are discolorations. I’m hoping that palmer’s skin therapy oil would diminish the appearance of these scars. Is this possible?

  9. Khanyi

is this product available in South African stores? where can i buy it?

    1. Tine

Khanyi: Sorry, I don’t know if this is available in South Africa. You can try checking it out at your local drugstores or pharmacies. They are usually where Palmer’s products are sold.

      Good luck!
