You know what they say, you can have the smoothest, youngest-looking skin on your face. But one look at your hands, and I’d know how old you really are. Gulp.
Hand creams aren’t enough to keep your mitts looking young. To keep them soft, yes, but if you want to prevent crepey, wrinkly hands, you need sunscreen on them too, especially on the back of your hands. It doesn’t matter if you’re indoors either. If your desk is by a window, sunscreen is a must. UVA rays are a b***h.
Here’s a suggestion. The next time you slap sunscreen on your face and body, rub them on the back of your hands too, just as you would hand creams. I use Neutrogena’s Healthy Defence Daily Moisturiser SPF30. If they’re oil-free and good enough for my face, they’re good enough for my hands.
Here’s to younger-looking hands and a younger-looking you! 🙂
I always need to remind myself about my hands. I seem to forget that important area and I agree with you, the hands say it all!
Fabuless Beauty: Me too. I remember my face, my arms, my legs, but the one place that is exposed to the sun all the time are my hands and I forget them. *facepalm*
@Fabules & Tine, yeah me too. Also even if we apply hand cream, it won’t last long since we often wash our hands.
Jane: I agree. There aren’t many hand creams that lasts through hand washing too.
yes, my hands look like 40 years old.. 🙁
Eunice: Mine too 🙁
Yup, that’s something I am striving to do whenever I go out. Not only our hands, our neck also needs as much as care as our face. If I didn’t take good of them now, I am afraid I would regret later on. Better to have some trouble, than take the toils of it in the future.
Amanda: My sentiments exactly. Good sunscreen needn’t be expensive either. That’s good advice to heed, thanks 🙂
That’s very true- you can really tell how old a person is by looking at their hands, even if they had facelifts and a good skincare regime that keeps them looking young on their faces. So far I haven’t been wrong on telling someone’s true age from their hands either haha 😛
I use hand sanitisers quite often (On account of being slightly OCD), so if you’re like me I’d suggest you keep a small tube of hand cream/sunscreen with you or within reach to top up regularly as well!
Stephanie/Yukaeshi: Oh yeah, hand sanitisers are killers on the skin. It’s addictive to want to keep slathering the cool gel on the hands, but the alcohol just dries our hands up like crazy.
thanks for reminding Tine! i don’t put sunscreen on my hands! it’s better late than never… 🙂
Issa: It’s an easily looked over area for sunscreen, isn’t it? Yet it’s the thing that people sees first (next to the face). Yikes!
Neutrogena has oxybenzone as an active ingredient. That’s a very dangerous ingredient as it has been linked to allergies, hormone disruption, and cell damage. It’s forming free radicals so it’s better to use no suncreen then to use one that has oxybenzone. I was using Neutrogena too before I found out abt this. Now I use Avene emulsion spf 50 for normal/combination skin and I love it. It’s not fatty and it smells decent.
Sandra: Thanks for letting us know. I’ll look into oxybenzone and read up about it. In between, I’ll check out the Avene one you recommended 🙂
