I have OCD when it comes to my eyeshadow palettes. I need them to be clean. Like, not-a-single-speck-of-powder-out-of-place clean. This is not always possible because there will always be fallout onto the palette from the makeup brush when you lift the powders. Take the Urban Decay NAKED palette as an example.
What I did before was use a damp cotton swab and clean the fallout. Still, look at how narrow the eyeshadows are separated. One clumsy move, and I’d have smudged my pretty shadows. This is not the only makeup palette I’ve had trouble with. NARS, Dior, Chanel, Lunasol, etc – plenty of fallout, and slight dents to the powder because of my shaky hands with the cotton swab.
Well, if you’re looking for ways to shake that fallout off without damaging your makeup palette, here’s a little tip I discovered a few months ago. You know that camera lens cleaner that comes with your cameras? What I’d call the mini bellows?
It’s a fantastic little tool in removing the fallout of powder. The tiny nozzle lets you aim a narrow stream of air without affecting other parts of the powders. Just squeeze and blow!
I’ve been cleaning all of my makeup with this little baby, and it works like a dream. No messy palettes, AND you get a workout for your palms (don’t need to use that palm-squeezy thingy anymore! :P)
Another use for the lens cleaner? Remove eyeshadow fallout on the face. You have to be very careful with this though; always aim the nozzle downwards so that the fine powders don’t get into your eyes.
Hope it works out for you. Have fun squeezing and blowing! 😀
PS: If your camera kit does not come with the mini bellows, you can get it from Daiso for AU$2.80. A cheap, nifty tool for the OCD in you and me 😛
Genius!! 😀
this would be a good time to say, “if MyWomenStuff’s Facebook brought you here, give it a thumbs up!”. pure genius indeedy.
domncroxd: Bahahahaha you are so right! *high five ParisB!*
this is brilliant! i only use the blower to clean my notebook keyboard, but now i am enlightened!
Xin: Hey I use that for my keyboard too. How I found out about it? I was photographing a piece of makeup at my desk one day. In between, I started cleaning the keyboard with the mini bellows and thought, hey, I could clean the palette too. Voila! Done 😀
OH!!! Now I remember. This is what you and I were talking about the other day over coffee or cake or something, I don’t remember, we seem to eat a lot when we meet 😛
LeGeeque: When are we never not eating when we meet? Or drinking for that matter? WAHAHAHAHAA!!
Instead of playing around with this blowing other people’s faces….you gave me a good idea to use this in a very “USEFUL’ way! hahahah thanks for sharing Tine!!!!
Nikki: It’s an arsenal in your makeup train, Nikki! Just nick one from your husband’s photography kit 😛
What an excellent tip! I would have never thought of it 🙂
Lyn: So now you know. Hahahaha! Go spread the word darlz! 😀
Wahaha.. OCD… me too!
Evelyn: Hey hey! Haven’t seen you around for a while now. Good to have you back! 🙂
I use something like this for keeping the powders specks away too! Glad to know I’m not the only OCD person around. LOL
Bun Bun: Haha, I’m glad to know I’M not the only OCD one too! 😛
Great tip 😉
Ling: Thanks Ling 🙂
Awesome! I would blow on my palettes……myself….this is way more hygenic…!
Astrorainfall: I used to blow at my palettes too, until spittle started landing on my powders. I kid you not! This way, much cleaner 🙂
