Another item to review in The Jojoba Company range is the Hydrating Day Cream. Oh dear. A natural, herbal-y moisturiser? Is it going to break me out like all the others? Gulp. Let’s find out.
Description:
– 95% natural.
– Deep penetrating daily moisturiser with antioxidants.
– A botanically derived moisturiser enriched with green tea and olive leaf extracts, skin calming chamomile, beta glucan, vitamins B & E and skin firming Siberian ginseng to supplement the deep moisturising properties of jojoba.
– A gentle, long acting daily moisturiser that restores the skin’s natural suppleness and protects against dehydrating environmental effects. Not tested on animals.
This was meant to be used as a day cream, but I found it too rich for my combination skin to be used during the day. Instead, I used it at night.
Guess what, guess what? This did not break me out at all!
*cue Hallelujah chorus*
As I found it to be quite a rich cream, instead of applying it the usual way I would with moisturisers (the 5-dot method – a tiny dollop of product on the forehead, nose, both cheeks and chin, and then spread across the face), I squeezed a pump of cream on my palm, rubbed my palms together, warming the moisturizer, and then only spread across the skin. I started on my neck first, concentrating most of the product there, and then the cheeks, and lastly, the T-zone and chin.
The moisturiser did look slightly greasy and felt moist on my skin, but since I used it before I went to bed, it wasn’t a problem. My skin remained well-hydrated and supple throughout the night. I’ve been using this for a month now and my skin (especially the cheeks) are now softer and smoother. An enthusiastic thumbs up for that and no breakouts.
Lastly (although I think I should have mentioned this first), I really like the packaging of the moisturiser. I love how sleek the matte-finished bottle looks, especially the tapering of the body to the neck. Baby’s got booty and I like!
Is this something I would repurchase? For the cold, dry winter, definitely.
The Jojoba Company Hydrating Day Cream retails at AU$54.95 for 85ml and is available at the website and selected health stores (click for stockists).
What I like about it: Simple and sleek bottle, did not break me out, hydrates skin well, soothing herbal scent.
What I do not like about it: Slightly greasy upon application (for oily/combination skin), not widely available.
I love the Jojoba Company products. Nice to see a little Beta Glucans in the ingredient list of this moisturiser
Jen W: They ARE good. I’m surprised they’re only sold in health stores and not major departmental stores as well. Just as well, I suppose, if they only want to cater specifically for people looking for natural skincare products.
the packaging is cute!
Issa: Haha I know, right? 🙂
I have read that jojoba, although an oil, is non-comedogenic so I think it has a less likelihood of causing breakouts…you got me intrigued. But re the comment on natural/organic products, yeah I like the concept of them but they tend to contain lots of fragrant/herbal (though natural) ingredients that actually irritate the skin, eg lavender, mint, citrus…
Beauty Box: I’ve read the same as well, about the herbal ingredients that irritate the skin. When they say that the product is fragrance-free, well, it does not contain any parfum, but they still use essential oils to give the product a scent, which in the end could be irritants. The Jojoba Company products would be the first time I’m using jojoba, but so far so good 🙂
Hello Ladies, Chris from The Jojoba Company here. Jojoba is the only plant known to produce wax esters instead of plant oil. Wax esters comprise up to 30% of the skin sebum that maintains skin health when we are young. Wax esters are also 50% of the film produced by glands in your eyelids to keep your eyes moisturised. The role of wax esters in skin sebum is to kill germs, smother viruses, dissolve dried skin sebum that may block hair follicles and skin pores, and to provide the natural moisturising barrier in skin that allows the transfer of gases and nutrients between skin layers but will not let moisture out. Wax ester production in skin winds back from adulthood leading to moisture loss and triggering accelerated aging in skin. The pure golden wax esters we gently cold press from beans from our inland NSW jojoba plantations have almost identical structure to the wax esters naturally in human skin sebum. That is why skin welcomes jojoba in and is why we use jojoba as the hero ingredient in our skin care products, to carry powerful and nutritious plant actives into skin, where they can go to work. Plant oils are triglycerides and have completely different structure to wax esters. Skin senses that plant oils are not its own. Skin contracts its pores to lock them out. Plant oils when applied direct can block skin pores but when they are carried in jojoba, skin recognises the jojoba as its own and welcomes it. Jojoba goes deep into skin and carries the nutritious plant actives with it. That is the foundation for this skin care range. I hope that helps.
