Okay, I admit it. This was a spur-of-the-moment purchase when I bought Chanel’s Coco Rouge Shine in Misia. I’ve never used any form of skincare from Chanel, so this is definitely a first. The makeup artist applied this on my lips prior to the Coco Rouge Shine, and since it felt pretty good on my lips, I decided to pick it up as well.
Too much for a lipbalm? Read on.
Description:
Upon application, and at any time of the day, this exquisitely soft lip balm soothes dry and damaged lips. At the heart of its formula is the exclusive active ingredient, Ceratonia PFA (PolyFractioning of Active ingredients. A process specific to CHANEL that allows for the creation of ultra-pure cosmetic ingredients), which boosts the dynamics of skin hydration at the very heart of cells to maintain an optimal level of moisture. Essential fatty acids in the formula provide immediate nourishing action. These are complemented by a cottonseed oil extract, with long-lasting action to repair the lips. Softer, smoothed and nourished, the lips look perfectly plumped, with a satiny finish – and utterly desirable.
The balm on its own is actually pretty hard. You really have to rub into it before the smoother bits emerge. Instead of using my fingers, I used a lipbrush to apply this. What I do is swipe the lipbrush pretty vigorously on the balm before the surface breaks and you get the smooth balm below. The balm applies very smoothly on the lips.
To be honest, this lipbalm isn’t fancier than any other lipbalms I’ve used. It works well as a base for lipsticks and lipgloss, but really, so does many other cheaper, drugstore alternatives. It has a slightly rosy scent and flavour similar to the Chanel Coco Rouge lipsticks. It keeps dry lips hydrated but it doesn’t go any further than that.
So is it an overpriced lipbalm? Sadly, yes. I get the luxe packaging and the brand, but that money really could have gone into another Coco Rouge (or similar) lipstick *ahem* 😛
Chanel Hydramax + Active Nutrition Lip Care retails at AU$52 and is available at major departmental stores like MYER and David Jones and selected pharmacies.
What I like about it: Luxe packaging, good base for lipsticks and lipgloss.
What I do not like about it: Expensive, similar to cheaper alternatives.
Good to know. Was going to buy this. Saving my money for good old Nivea 😉
Great review! I love reading reviews about Chanel products, they are just so expensive for me to buy and try myself, so I really depend on good reviews like yours Tine <3
I love the packaging of Chanel goodies. Great and honest review – so I wont be buying this 😛
Thanks for your post, you’ve saved me $$$. I’d been planning on getting this soon, now I won’t bother.
Did you try this at the Chanel makeup studio in Pavilion with the male MUA?
I guess different things work for different people. We’re low income earners with young children but I have so much trouble with dry lips (it’s embarrassing and painful) that I splurge on this because it works so well for me. I have of course tried many, many lip care products.
