Description:
A medicated topical treatment that clears breakouts, reduces congestion and controls shine. Silicones melt gently into skin to help diminish fine lines and smooth skin texture. Niacinamide, Zinc Glucontae, Yeast Extract, Caffeine and Biotin purify and inhibit overactive sebaceous activity while Salicylic Acid clears congested follicles to minimise future breakouts. Contains no artificial fragrance or colour.
This works as a makeup primer, and in my opinion, extremely similar to Smashbox’s Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Which means it contains, and pardon my French for this, shitloads of dimethicone. So if your skin cannot handle skincare products with a lot of silicone in them, high chances are this wouldn’t work for you.
Nevertheless, this sort of makeup primers works fine for me, so I had no problems with the clearing mattifier. In fact, this worked better for me as it contained salicylic acid, which helped control breakouts and sebum on my oily T-zone. My foundation stayed matte for hours. Think of it as a good makeup primer with pimple preventative measures. Ding ding!
Dermalogica mediBac Clearing Mattifier retails at AU$68 for 40ml and is available at professional beauty salons such as Endota Spa, Pure Indulgence, etc. It is also available on Adore Beauty and Strawberrynet.
What I like about it: Keeps the oilies at bay, and my foundation matte around the oily T-zone.
What I do not like about it: Would prefer it to be less, err, silicone-y.
I agree, clearing mattifier really does work like a make up primer, I find the secret to it, is to use it sparingly, otherwise it can feel a little oily (even though it is not).
The great thing with this dermalogica product is the salicylic acid will help remove stubborn congestion, if used daily.
I’m deciding between the clearing mattifier and the Medibac Clearing Oil Control lotion that you reviewed as well. I’m really oily in my T-zone and I bought a new Shu Uemura foundation just a few days ago and i LOVE it but it does make me oilier compared to my old Clinique Superfit..so i’m hoping to get something to keep the oil under control…which one would you recommend to try first?
