I live in a tiny apartment with an open-plan living, which means that everytime I cook, the whole place stinks. And you know how Chinese cooking can be; the wonderful stench of garlic and ginger lingers on for hours before it’s finally gone. Opening the windows and door doesn’t help much either. To help remove the cooking smell, I use candles.
I love lighting candles in the house. Do it carefully and responsibly, and you’ll have a room smelling something wonderful. Scented candles aren’t cheap. I prefer using soy candles as they last longer, but a proper scented soy candle can cost up to $100, depending on the brand. Thus, I stick to essential or aromatherapy oils.
These oils last a lot longer, and since they’re relatively cheaper than a scented candle, I can afford to buy more of them. Use them with el-cheapo 100-pack tealights from IKEA and I’m a happy camper.
Obsessed much? More to join the pack!
I love essential oils by In Essence and The Body Shop. Lavender, bergamot and rose are my favourites. They’re soothing, calming, and best of all, they remind me of being in a spa 😛
My whopper of a burner from Dusk
Just a few tiny drops of oil would do onto a burner (filled with water, of course). A tealight can last up to 4 hours, which is good. Essential oils are more cost-effective, and you also get to enjoy a variety of them without compromising on space (because really, how many candles can you store in one time in a confined living environment?).
Do you use essential oils too? What’s your favourite scent?
Hey Tine! I’m getting to love essetial oils too and bought my first oil (for burning) at the Body Shop! Your burner looks so elegant and peaceful!
I’m nuts about essential oils… on my face! In form of facial oils, though 🙂
Tried Eve Taylor and they’re lovely, but have been trying out Jurlique’s Skin Balancing Face Oil and they take the cake! Excellent if you’re a fan of the smell of real roses though (Not the fake synthetic variety)- I’m not, but thankfully it goes away after application.
Yea, I really dislike the kitchen in my place too, the open concept and all…..that’s why I hardly cook now…
I love essential oils, and haha, you know what? I love rose and lavender too. And the fresh citrus scents, including bergamot. And sometimes, fruity, especially peaches.
wow nice sharing(^_^)!
love essential oils too! but for body and face though 😛 i have quite some variants – for acne, sensitive skin, sinus, bust firming. LOL
Oh God!!
I love Body Shop’s Vanilla and Green Tea:-)
I love candles too! I ordered from an Aussie girl before and she had some amazing scents like basil lime! Absolutely yummy and earthy. Back in SG, I use the air purifier though cos I have way too much clutter around… fire hazards!
Love lavender and sandlewood scents.
I love essential oils too! I have them burning every night on my electric vaporizer. In Essence blend oils are my fave! Currently using the Relaxation blend and the Motivation blend. Nice ones!
