I’m currently living in Taiwan. The best birthday present given to me by my friends was a surprise party! I was really having a bad week then, and on my birthday, I was having lunch with school friends as usual. They didn’t greet me when they saw me, and I acted nonchalant about it too. The surprise came after lunch however, they all filed into the room with two cakes and was suddenly singing “Happy Birthday”. It was really touching.

I’m from Memphis, TN. The best birthday present I ever got was spending the time with my cousins in the Philippines during the town fiesta (of my mom’s hometown). My office boy thought he heard ticking sound from the parcel and we thought it might be a bom, so after half an hour of crazy talk, I opened the parcel which has a birthday cake and a mini clock with the word ‘suprise’! Half suprised and half mad, I called up a few people whom I think may have setup the prank and couldn’t find the sender. I embarass myself and my friends with the calls because some of them felt guilty for not sending a birthday gift! It was only at the end of the day, the anonymous sender called and asked if I was suprised! I replied he nearly gave me a heart attack!

They lived 4 or 5 hours away, and while I was at soccer practice I saw them walking across the field, so I ran over to them and was so shocked to see them I greeted them with “What the h*** are you doing here?!” This also happens to be one of their favorite stories, as it was SO out of character for me!

For woman, turning 30 is like entering into another important chapter in life. I want the best present to significant this shift. Went high and low scouting for my present, and do my internal search about what i want for myself. Finally, with some ‘higher awareness’, I realized that what i want is ‘present’, yup, that is being present in the moment and just be. This way, I am sure i will appreciate all the little little blissings in my life on daily basis and most importantly, able to age gracefully.
Hi, I am from Ann Arbor, Michigan. The best birthday present I ever got was a care package from a friend whom I met over the summer. He sent me a box, and inside it were a variety of things that had meaning to what we did over the summer. This included a CD of songs we listened to alot, a hoodie that I said I liked, a rock from the lake where we spent a great time at, and pages of rules to baseball since I told him I didn’t know the rules and couldn’t play it with him.

I’m from the UK and the best birthday present I ever received was from my colleagues at work for my 18th Birthday, 9 years ago now. I finished work (I was a cleaner and had obviously been the only one actually working that evening!) to find my little old rust-bucket of a car completely filled with balloons and the outside covered with ribbons and silly string finished off with a huge birthday cake sat on the bonnet/hood. I don’t think I ever laughed so hard in my life. Wasn’t quite so funny when I was still clearing the crap out of it an hour and a half later. But what a fab memory they created for me! Bastards.
