Reader Ollie wanted to know what the Envirosax bags looked like when they’re opened up, so here it goes.
Before I go to the pictures, I have to say that I’m not normally a pro-environment person. I’m quite ashamed to say that I do waste paper and water at times, especially on my heavy usage of tissues and loo paper. I am trying my best to keep using those to a minimum though.
However, there is one thing I dislike using, and that’s plastic bags.
Mind you, I do use those thin bags where you use to wrap vegetables in, or wrap food in, but that’s about it. I try to cut down the use of plastic bags as much as I can when I’m shopping. And that’s where these eco bags come in.
So back to the Envirosax bags. I’ve also thrown in the RuMe bag that Beetrice gave me for good measure.
After some calculations, I realised that Envirosax bags are actually cheaper in Australia than in Malaysia! The bags I got were RM30 each, whereas an Envirosax bag here only cost AU$10. Bugger.
Oh well *shrug*.
The Envirosax bags I got were the Mikado Black Flower and Mikado Green.
Bag measurements:
Weight Bearing : 45 lbs / 20 kgs
Individual bag : 50 cms x 42 cms / 19.5″ x 16.5″
Individual rolled up bag : 10 cms x 4.5 cms diameter / 4″ x 1.5″ – 40g weight
As for the RuMe bag, I have to admit that I’ve actually never heard of it, until Bee gave one to me. I found that the RuMe’s material was actually stronger than the Envirosax’s, although in a smaller size. The one Bee got me was the Fall in NY – 5th Avenue, which costs approximately US$10.
RuMe Bags are made from 180 denier polyester, with water-resistant coating.
Individual bag size 15.5” x 15.5” x 4”
Handles are 11.5” long
Three bags roll up to 6” x 2” x 3”
Each bag holds more than 50lbs
These bags are fantastic for holding my shopping, groceries, bottled water, etc. I use the RuMe to hold my wallet, keys and phone when I need to go to the market, or wherever that might get my bag dirty. The polyester on these eco bags make them very easy to clean. Plus they look great too. They’re small when folded, so it hardly takes up any space in my bag.
Oddly enough, I get quite a lot of funny looks in Malaysia when I whip out my Envirosax bag and tell the cashiers I didn’t need a bag. I mean, goodness me, they even give you a tiny plastic bag just to hold a tiny mobilephone pouch, when you can easily slip that into your purse!
If you’ve never used an eco bag before, it’s high time you give it a try. Make it a fashion statement, and reduce the use of plastic bags to save the environment at the same time.
These eco bags sure look better on my arm and shoulder than this anyway.
hahaha totally agree that ecobags win any time. is that the giant bag? my work bag now dual-functions as my eco bag 🙂
those are lovely!!! And I love it that it’s earth friendly!
Don’t be deceived by the Envirosax’s apparent flimsiness. One of them got me through a year in London, hauling a week’s worth of groceries for 30 mins. I do adore how comfy it is even when full and slung over your shoulder. RipStop Nylon rocks!
Also yes it’s funny how distressed shop attendants get when you tell them no plastic bags, but they’ve improved SO MUCH. Two years ago, before I left I tried doing this. And they’d look bewildered and go “ok” but then they’d forget and compulsively bag it! I’d ask them to unbag it again, and the whole process would start again. One girl bagged and unbagged my stuff three times. After awhile I learnt to just grab it and pop it into my bag ASAP. Lessens their distress. Poor things.
I got one strange look once when the cashier said “No need bag? How to carry?!” totally ignoring my Envirosax of course. Now, they bag it straight into my bag no questions asked. I think they are getting used to it coz local supermarkets now sell enviro bags too but not as pretty as the Envirosax ones of course 🙂
Oo, I’m sold. I have always drag around my green grocer bag and its so boring. I’m off to stock up on these.
xo,

hehe…you like the RuMe eh? 😉 btw, i thought there was P&H charges for ordering the Envirosax? that should factor into the calculations rite? LOL…
I LOVE ENVIROSAX! I think I have six of these? The Mikado line is the best, and I also like their new Candy line.
i carry my own shopping trolly when buying grocery and i don’t use plastic bags from stores as much as i can. hate garbage! i think all stores here should learn from taiwan, where you have to pay for plastic bags if you don’t bring your own. i know one organic store, Justlife here is doing that. you rent its bag (can be fully refunded) for your grocery if you don’t have your own. I love that store! 🙂
Thanks for showing the bags Tine. Nice, very nice. Where can I get one again?
beetrice, there are plenty of standalone stores which stock the environsax in melbourne. I keep on stumbling into them whenever I go shopping. They aren’t very obvious if you look out for them, you can find them. Also, if you buy them in a pack of 5 online, it’s slightly cheaper as well. I got my entire team converted to these bags at work. I sometimes use mine as my lunch bag as well. 🙂
geekchic – ahh, that would make sense then… 🙂 I only thought they were available online in Aus.
Hey 🙂 I was doing a search for MAC stuff and found your rants. I checked through a few pages of your blog and saw this entry yesterday. Then today I got an email from Peter’s of Kensington and they sell these bags! WEIRD COINCIDENCE.
Anyway, they’re $6.50 each : http://www.petersofkensington.com.au/Product/ProductSearch.aspx?departmentSearch=-1&brandSearch=ENVIROSAX&search=Keyword
That sounds a lot cheaper than you’ve found there here or overseas, so I thought I’d pass it on to you 🙂
I’m a dork. It wasn’t the MAC stuff (I was looking up their brushes on Ebay, not google) it was the Paulas Choice review. I just ordered a moisturiser from there and a tonne of samples and was searching online for reviews.
Beetrice picked out a mini Rume for you, there are actually 3 sizes of rumes – the mini, the regular and the Macro.
The mini is best for daily use (not family grocery shopping) because that’s usually how much we tote around for lunch / takeaway food etc.
The regular Rume actually fits slightly more than the envirosax. Rume material also softens after washing so it’s not so ‘crinkly’ (but still stiff enough to stand up on its own), and another difference is the design is printed on all sides, not just 1 side like some of the envirosax lines
