A couple of weeks ago, when I was at the Chanel counter at Myer checking out the Tweed blush collection, I was invited to sign up for a skincare and makeup workshop. Apparently Chanel does not do many of these workshops, so I jumped at the chance. I had to pay $50 as a booking fee, which is redeemable upon purchase of any Chanel products after the session.
‘Twas too bad Geekchic couldn’t join me, because I found it a lot of fun. I was the youngest person amongst the ten of us. As typical workshops go, they were promoting their skincare and makeup products, but what made it a lot more interesting was the one-to-one attention we got after the demonstration was over. I had a makeup artist sitting right next to me, attending to my questions and all.
Oh, and did I mention a free flow of champagne, sandwiches, cupcakes and chocolates? π
Every seat was equipped with a mirror, papers and pen for notes, disposable Chanel makeup brush and spatula
The workshop ran for about 2 hours, and each of us was given a door gift of a Chanel cosmetics bag (and a large one at that too) with some samples in them. True to Chanel’s style of luxury, even the samples came with notes and a box.
Ultra Correction Line Repair Anti-Wrinkle Eye Cream, Night Cream and Intensive Concentrate
During the workshop, the Chanel ladies unveiled their latest collection, Spring 2009 Collection Bohemian Fantasy, to us. It was only going to be launched next week, but we had a sneak peek, and was able to purchase any of the items in the collection before it was officially launched. The makeup artist demonstrated the use of the Mystic Eyes quad eyeshadow on one of the ladies. When my makeup artist (the one sitting next to me), Elena/Alana (don’t know the spelling; she wasn’t wearing a name tag like the rest) tried it on me, I was sold.
Thus, my damage of the day.
Les 4 Ombres 14 Mystic Eyes and Ombre D’eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow 90 Delta
The colours were beautifully baked and pigmented and the effect was absolutely gorgeous. I’ve never had any eye makeup from Chanel before, but I think, no, I KNOW this is not going to be my last. I originally wanted to get the Tweed blush in Tweed Rose, but it was still sold out.
Makeup artist, Elena/Alana, who did my FOTD
She was really nice, and commented that I had great skin. I told her I was worried about the fine lines below my eyes, and immediately she said, “What lines?!” She told me I didn’t even need the eye cream, but I could still give it a try if I wanted just to prevent lines from forming. What a different attitude from the skincare and makeup sales assistants in Malaysia, where they’ll insult you point blank, and tell you how bad your skin is, just so they can introduce their skincare line to you which could, miraculously, make those skin problems disappear. Tsk tsk tsk.
All in all, I had a great time at the workshop. I’ll definitely sign up for more of these in the near future. And this time, I’m dragging Geekchic with me.
I love love love Chanel’s eyeshadows and blushes! They’re worth every penny, IMO. But then again, what is it about the double CC that I don’t? π
Have yet to try any of their skincare though. I’ve always felt that they’re more for mature ladies, without realising that maybe I am, indeed, one of the mature ladies now. π
Wooooo Chanel!!
GOT DOOR GIFT??? *weeps* Yea, I know, I shld’ve gone but hor, I’d just done the math, I’m going to be a boring working adult saddled by a mortgage soon. If I want that Chanel 3.142, I cannot be splurging on makeup so much *sniff*
Glad you had fun, though. When they bring out the champers, I’m sold π
PS-I had a sneak peek at the new range too; they’d launched it at DJ, not Myer. Strange, aye?
You obviously look so pretty! π Thanks for sharing your experience, those are lovely products you got π
Loving the eye shadows. I have a friend who is a fan of Chanel’s eyes shadows. Can you please tell me how much it is?
Oh that palette looks sooo nice… Will you be doing swatches or an individual post for it? I’m on the hunt for a palette and have been looking around for champagne/nude colors!
Hooo boy! Chanel! =)
I’m getting more and more enticed by Chanel’s blushers and quads. They do look lovely. And the packaging screams elegance. Sigh… I was browsing through the Chanel counter a few weeks back, and I could already spot several quads I’d love to own.
Oh dear. *gulp*
yes you do really have nice skin… stop being paranoid!! lol… the MA looks quite gorgeous eh?
tine, do you think you can do me a favour? can help me check out megan gale’s invisible zinc sunblocks (the environmental skin protector) if you happen to see it in stores? http://www.ganehill.com.au/product/range.htm
many thanks in advance!!
That Chanel palette looks mighty pretty, I might just buy it myself (^.^)
I’m glad you had fun. That palette is so pretty!
Hello there! I’m new to your site and found it via google search when I was googling about Vitamin C!
Oh my gosh you lucky woman you for being able to attend that 2 hour workshop! Having lived in KL now for I think π 5 years now I am very disappointed when I hear there’s a makeup workshop I hear about it a wee bit too late!! Im not going to mention the Makeup brand i buy but ive registered myself the 1st time I bought their products they have my name in their database and still no invites for workshops! The only crap i get from them are sms-es of their latest promos!!
What a different attitude from the skincare and makeup sales assistants in Malaysia, where theyβll insult you point blank, and tell you how bad your skin is, just so they can introduce their skincare line to you which could, miraculously, make those skin problems disappear. Tsk tsk tsk.
How truly RIGHT you are!!! Not all are insulting but having come across a few of the SKINCARE dept I just find how lucky they are I was not in the mood of sharpening my claws with them. Thank goodness I found someone who finds the skincare so called consultant in Malaysia are not too seller-friendly and discreet with their so-called opinions π
Sorry for this long comment π but after finding your website Im ah gonna save this on my favorites!! Oh by the by thanks for the review on Ipanema’s sandal (i know its a wee bit late) but after reading your review Im GOING to get a pair!
eiyeiyei…Chanel!! and yeah, ditto on the comments about the local SAs in Malaysia – finding a good one is a GODSEND aitelyu!! π
This sound so fun and worth the $50.
The quad looks pretty! I’m tempted. π
And I’m liking that Chanel mirror they have. LOL. Weirdo. But it looks so shiny and pretty. Haha.
And that’s definitely $50 well spent. π
How about getting it at the price you want rather than the price they decide? You can you know?
MisSmall:
I’ve always wanted to try the quad shadows, especially after the smokey eye one came out. Always been itching to buy a travel palette when I’m in between airports. For some reason I’ve always held back. And now I smack myself on the forehead for not buying it before. Tsk tsk.
About the skincare, I still find them a tad too rich for my skin. Honey, you and I aren’t quite there yet, so we can hold out on the Chanel skincare products (lookit me bragging here. Tee hee!)
Fuzzkittie:
Ditto!
Nikki:
Aww thanks babes.
Geekchic:
Hah, see lah, didn’t come with me, you didn’t get π Oh yeah, save for Chanel Pi instead. A much better *ahem* investment *ahem*
Ohmypetticoat:
The quad shadows are AU$98 each, and the Fluid Iridescent’s AU$51.
Renee:
Yep will be doing a post on it with swatches and an FOTD as well π
Syen:
Go get it! It’s really good π (And also to make me feel better for buying this :P)
Daphne:
Oh I know right? I thought she was real pretty too!
Have already emailed you on the sunscreen.
Miku:
Yay, I’ve converted another π
Gio:
Yep it is!
Rojak & Tapai:
Does that brand do workshops? Yeah I know about the text messages about latest promos. On one hand, I don’t mind hearing about the latest sales, but the rest of the time it’s just junk.
Yeah, I have an absolute revulsion for Malaysian beauty sales assistants who think that by telling me what crap skin I have, can be cured by their products. Seriously, the person who taught them to say this rubbish to customers should be shot.
Beetrice:
Eh go try Chanel, girl, you’ll be converted.
Homespagoddess:
Yep I think so too!
Vicky:
You’re not the only one. I was really tempted with the mirror too. It’s fantastically angled in a way where applying makeup is so easy.
Lila:
Err so you’re saying that if I wanna pay 20 bucks for Chanel, I can get it at that price?
Tine: Im trying to remember when I heard about this workshop but I know there was one and to know about it absolutely disappointed me :-(, I absolutely agree with ‘shooting’ that person hehehe ..i will never forget that time, one girl from Biotherm point blank telling me about my skin and I looked at her and walked away .. the nerve ..criticising my skin when hers were full of dark spots … grrrrr i dont mind splurging but if such a product doesnt work can you guarantee me my money back? At least one Biotherm girl (from a different mall) was apologetic enough before saying my skin looks dry!
Rojak & Tapai:
See that’s just how it works in Asia – really, I don’t know who started that sort of customer service where it’s okay to insult customers by pointing out how bad their skin is, just so they can promote their own goods. Or, to digress a little, to follow customers like a puppy dog when they’re browsing. This is what I absolutely hate. I’m all about personal space, and I need mine. Geez. It really annoys me to no end.
Tine: Oh yes that part where they follow the customers annoy the heck out of me ..it just turns you off to browse around, doesnt it? I am also all about personal space..ever come across the same when you’re at the lingerie section? Those ladies annoy me when they start latching on you like an unwanted shadow and worse they point out to you what those items are as if we’re some sort of virginal women who just came out of the cave after a century of being locked in and not know what a bra or a pair of knicker look like and worse is when they say its discounted when WE KNOW IT IS because we see the boldly printed 50% discount on bras & panties in front of us! Makes me miss lingerie shopping at M&S
Rojak & Tapai:
Ah ha! That really annoys me too! When they point out to you that the items are on 50% discount when there already is a huge sign right in front of me! What I normally do when they tell me that is that I look at them right in the eye, and say a very curt “I know. It’s right in front of me”. That usually shuts them up for two seconds before they start going on about whether they can help me find my size or not. Sometimes I feel that the reason they’re doing all this is so that we don’t mess up their arrangement of stuff or else they’ll have to do it all over again. Sigh.
When are sales assistants going to ever learn that the best way to keep a customer is to stop bugging them?!
