Now that summer is here (well, Down Under anyway, and basically every single day in Malaysia and Singapore), it’s time to increase the use of sunscreen. And not just on your face, but your arms and legs as well (you’re not going to be clad in jeans during the summer, are you? ;))
I first heard of ROC’s Minesol 30 in one of the Malaysian fashion and beauty magazines when I was in Malaysia a few months ago. I was looking for a sunscreen spray then, so I thought I’d get a bottle from a Guardian pharmacy to give it a go.
Description:
This mist is so refreshing, you will look forward to using it! Transparent and very easy to rub in, it effectively protects from the sun and against photo-ageing. It is also very water-resistant.
Ingredients:
Alcohol Denat, Isobutane, Homosalate, Benzophenone-3, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Diethylhexyl 2,6-Naphtalate, Octocrylene, Dimethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Retinyl Palmitate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Trisiloxane, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Acrylates/Dimethicone Copolymer, Parfum.
This sunscreen spray has an SPF of 30, and is very easy to use. Just shake well, and spray on the legs and arms (keeping the spray at length of 6 inches). Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
I apply this 20-30 minutes before I go out. All sunscreens should be applied around that time before sun exposure anyway. For use on the face, do not spray directly onto the face. Spray the sunscreen onto your hands first, and then apply it on the face. I wouldn’t recommend this for the face though, as it contains alcohol and fragrance, which I will talk about in a while. Methinks it better to stick to your favourite sunscreen specially for the face.
The Minesol 30 is clear, so it doesn’t leave any marks or streaks on the skin.
I often forget to apply sunscreen onto my arms and legs, so the spray makes it a lot easier and convenient for lazy bums like me. Just spray and go! Too bad they do not come in a smaller bottle; if it does, reapplication (a must for all sunscreens!) would be so much easier if I could slip it into my purse.
One thing I don’t like about this sunscreen spray is the smell. There’s perfume in the ingredients, but man, it’s rank. There is a strong chemical scent in which I do not like. I don’t know who came up with this so-called perfume, but they have got to get their head checked. It reeks of a mix of chemicals, which is just nasty. Thank goodness the “fragrance” dissipates quite quickly, or else I might stop using this altogether.
ROC Minesol 30 Application Express Cooling Atomizer (150ml) is available at Guardian pharmacies in Malaysia for around RM80. I’ve not seen this here in Melbourne though, so Australian readers, if you do happen to see this, do let me know, k?
Once again, don’t forget to apply sunscreen onto your arms and legs now!
What I like about it: Very easy to use; leaves a cool, refreshing feeling on the skin after use.
What I do not like about it: Very chemical-y smell to the sunscreen.
good point tine, i always forget about my arms and legs. arms are usually tanned. cis. coz i am also very lazy to apply, now, thank goodness for the spray bottle 🙂
I use sunscreen spray too and I always store them in the fridge; I get a blast of chill before I head out. But sometimes I wonder if spray is thick enough though. After all it is slap slop slip.
There’s one nivea one which is spray on as well can be found in Priceline. Pretty good. Not very scent-y or sticky which I like. Wanted to review it last summer when I first got here, looks like I’m the procrastination queen.
Yar, if you can find this here, lemme know!
you know. my high school biology teacher had too much impact on me. She would go on and on about how SPRAY damages our planet and etc. (She was, still is a member of Green Peace, I think…) So I had not tried anything with a spray. Not a joke. for some reason. that is just like a tattoo on me…
this is interesting though i think you ought to try Cancer Council Australia products… LOL
thanks for the lovely review.
I am into ease of application but if there’s strong chemical scent? Goodbye 🙂 thanks for the review
